WODBOM stands for “Workout of the Day – Box of the Month” and is a subscription box designed for CrossFit enthusiasts, by CrossFit enthusiasts. (Although, I don’t think you absolutely have to be into CrossFit to get something out of this box, as long as you are interested in working out!)

Normally there is an information card with this box, but I did not receive one this month.

Madfitter T-Shirt (purple, women’s size small) – Value $20

I said last month that I’d like to receive apparel other than tanks in fitness subscription boxes, and the boxes are starting to deliver. (Not that I don’t like tanks, but I was getting them in like every box.) This is just the kind of t-shirt I like to work out in. It fits and doesn’t hang loose off my body so I can swing kettlebells and do burpees without it getting in the way! Madfitter is run by a US Navy veteran and they also sell kettlebells that look a little bit like grenades.

Paleo Powder All Purpose Seasoning (6 oz) – Value $7

Paleo is about as far from how I eat as possible (since I am a vegetarian).  But, this is full of the spices I often use anyway (salt, chili powder, garlic powder, black pepper, onion powder, white pepper, cumin, and cayenne pepper) and would go on some Indian-inspired dishes as well as in chili or tacos, so I am happy to have it.

Greater Than Sports Drink in Orange Mango (11.2 fl oz) – Value $2.17

This has natural electrolytes from sea salt and coconut water and no added sugars. It does include some juice so it is not calorie free, but there is something very appealing to me about a sports drink that’s not full of high fructose corn syrup (HFCS gives me hives) and artificial colors, so I’m glad to have discovered this. I like the orange mango flavor, too!

wodbom-november-2016-rub

Wodbrand Muscle Rub (1 oz?) – Value $9.50?

We got some soap from this brand last month and I have been using it in the shower every now and then (I switch between bar soap and shower gel because I like both). This smells pretty similar and includes menthol and wintergreen. I kind of like this better than lotion-like muscle rubs that you have to spread around with your hands, and it is reasonably effective. (I did Ab Ripper X from P90X without having done much ab work for months and I hurt for three days, which gave me ample opportunity to try this out.)

Natural Force Cordyceps Pro ATP + N.O. Booster (3 packets x 3 capsules each) – Value $6

This is vegan, stimulant free, gluten free, and non-GMO. I like when supplement companies put that information up front because it saves me a lot of time reading the tiny print on bottles. The main active ingredient is Cordyceps sinensis, a type of fungus collected originally from caterpillars (but it will grow in the lab). Some animal studies have shown enhanced oxygen utilization capacity, which could help with athletic performance, and it is generally thought to be safe. I tried this before a kettlebell workout and I feel like maybe I had a little more energy towards the end, but that doesn’t really constitute a scientific study, either…

wodbom-november-2016-socks

Mission Vapor Active Performance No Show Socks (2 pairs) – Value $14.99

I could not find sizing information anywhere on this package. I also couldn’t find women’s socks on the Mission website. These are somewhat big for me (the men’s size “medium,” which is not currently available online, is for shoe sizes 6-9, but a 7 in women’s is about a 5 ½ in men’s). That’s too bad because I love no show socks and these are supposed to be great at wicking moisture away as well as having some arch compression and heel cushioning.

Trigger Point Mobipoint Massage Ball – Value $7.99

I was happy to see this. I’ve received other Trigger Point products from fitness subscriptions in the past, but what I like here is that I can use this around my elbow, where I’ve been having some issues with muscle strain that I’m worried will turn into a full-fledged repetitive strain injury. The website for this product also shows it being used under the foot, which could be great for plantar fasciitis!

Verdict: I calculated a value of $67.65 for the November WODBOM. That’s almost double the cost of the box, so I think the value is good. I’m a little bummed I couldn’t use the socks (I will pass them on to someone who can) but I will definitely use the shirt and the energy drink and massage ball were great discoveries for me.
