What do you think of the July 2016 Play! By Sephora box theme spoiler? Any guesses on what will be in the box?

I'm thinking maybe a mattifying item? A cooling mist spray? A 2-in-1 makeup item? But really... I have no idea!

The Play! drawstring bag this month will have a hot pink popsicle on it. In the spot where a bite has been taken out of it, there is a hot pink lipstick kiss. Cute!

Amy M

Wait, how did you see/hear about it? I’m looking everywhere on the internet.

Reply ButtonReply

Amy M

Sounds cute! I hope they keep sending the draw-string pouches. I have endless uses for them.

Reply ButtonReply

Cc

Like what? I have lots of little bags like these (most smaller than Sephora Play ones) that are cute but don’t really have a use for them except sometimes putting some jewelry in when I travel. Ideas?

redwoods81

Anybody else notice that when this month’s box went up on your purchases page, there was a notation? Mine was labeled “Oily/Combination”.

Reply ButtonReply

Alisonka

Am I looking in the wrong place? I go to Online Orders and it shows my pending play box (June 3). I click on it and all it says is “Play! By Sephora”. No box A/B, oily or dry. I hope there’s not a 3rd junk box…

Reply ButtonReply

Cat

Mine also doesn’t say A or B. And I looked on the full website. I am a little nervous; I hope I still get the Blotterazi since thats really the only think I want!

Jen

Hi ! I was having the same issue.. You need to view the full website not the mobile version

Stacy

Yes, I posted about this a few days ago further down in the comments. I’m not happy about it because I have dry skin but I do not want that Benefit liquid bronzer nor the Smashbox… Who hasn’t sampled that horrid Smashbox primer several times already?! My skin is sensitive and it breaks me out every single time I try it. I actually like the TF bronzer but know that’s not what they’re going to send me based on my skin type. As soon as I realized what they were doing with variations this month I cancelled on July 1 but am still stuck with this box since you have to cancel before the first. This box has gone downhill but I’m hoping the blotterazi and Ouai will make this months worth it (even though Ouai just went out to many of us in RZ box of style). I’m tired of paying for samples that I don’t really want when I could go into my local store and ask for samples of the exact products I want to test.

Reply ButtonReply

Christine

Yeah I am kinda bummed about the bronzer and the primer. I would have rather had the other options too. (I’m dry too) But I guess I’ll have to wait and see if thats what I actually get. I have never tried either bronzer but I have a few samples already of the smashbox. Not a fan.

MzBev

Ohhh, yes – mine says normal/dry. I like that they’re taking that into consideration!

Reply ButtonReply

Christine

Yes, mine says box b normal/dry!!

Reply ButtonReply

Erin

“PLAY! by SEPHORA / July 2016 Play! Box B – Normal/Dry” for me. Eeeentersting!

And to the person below, yes, when I redeemed my May coupon for points, I was asked several questions. If I liked it, what I liked best… I wonder if they are just supposed to make conversation or if our answers get shared?

Reply ButtonReply

Brittany

I never had a notation. I also haven’t been charged for this month yet but had received an April/May box.
Anyone else not notice a charge?

Reply ButtonReply

Alisonka

I was charged late on friday.

Claudia

I live pretty far from an actual store but today I was in nyc so I stopped in to make a small purchase and get those 50 pts. As I was checking it the cashier asked me all sorts of questions about my PlayBox. What was my favorite item from the last box? Did I think I would buy any of the full-size items? This is only my second box and the first time I’ve gotten a chance to redeem the 50 pts. Anyone else had this iexperience?

Reply ButtonReply

Emily

I redeemed mine a couple weeks ago and she just scanned it and handed it back to me (??). (I know with some Sephora coupons you can reuse them but this doesn’t seem like one where you should be able to.) She didn’t ask me any of that stuff though.

beautyblender blotterazzi™ by beautyblender®
NEST Citrine
Ouai Wave Spray

Remaining items will be one of each category:

Benefit Cosmetics Dew the Hoola Soft Matte Liquid Bronzer or
Too Faced Soleil Matte Bronzer

Reply ButtonReply

Phoelix

Don’t use bronzers but if they must include it, I hope I get the Too Faced bronzer although I think Sephora will give me the Benefit since I have “normal/dry” . The Benefit one has pretty bad reviews:/

Reply ButtonReply

Alisonka

Oooo. I really hope this is correct and I’m not getting my hopes up. Everything but the bronzer sounds great. I’ve had play for 2 months now and have not been impressed. This would make up for it, I think.

Reply ButtonReply

Bethany

I’m with you. This sub was hyped up but I haven’t been impressed so far. Just cancelled my Birchbox sub; this will be the next one to go if I’m not impressed with the July box. I am loving the Allure box these days. Great products and sample sizes are worth the $$!

Heather F

I’m very pleased with this news, no clue where you found it because I’ve been searching err’where! Much appreciated and here’s hoping you’re right and that I get the box/bag for combo skin…for some reason my order is still “pending” and sans the notation but they definitely took payment and it went through. Mayhaps it will update on Tuesday. Thanks for the news!

Reply ButtonReply

CM

Where did you see this?
.
I’m really hoping I don’t get the Too Faced Soleil Bronzer. I love Benefit and I already got the same exact Too Faced sample from Sephora as a 100 point reward TWO years ago!!!

Reply ButtonReply

CM

(I shouldn’t complain though — I’m actually very excited about the fragrance and the wave spray. It’s just that the Benefit would make this the perfect box!)

Stacy

In other news, you can now Cancel your Sephora Play directly from your accounts page rather than having to call in! After sticking with it for 6 months, I cancelled mine today (which means I’ll still get July but will stop getting them as of August) and it took less than a minute. I’ve been on the fence about keeping it and the combination of no spoilers + July box variations without informing us + major product overload (seriously, my partner might leave me if I cram any more samples onto our bathroom counter! ha) was enough for me to call it quits. Hopefully that opens a spot for someone who is still on the wait list! I still think the value is there, but only if you aren’t already overloaded with products and will actually use the samples they send.

@HeatherF
I’m not sure what you mean by the “UV” version of OI’s All in One Milk? I buy my Davines products from either the Davines website or from the salon I go to. I’m not aware of any other versions of the All in One Milk. Did Birchbox say it was a special version? I’ve read a description by Birchbox that mentions UV protection, but I’m not aware of any specific UV version of Davines OI All in One Milk. I’ve only used what I thought was the one and only “version” of the product, and I only see the original OI All in One Milk on the Davines website. Curious.

Reply ButtonReply

HeatherF

Hi there, @d!

It’s called: Davines SŪ Hair Milk

I looked up the product page through Birchbox so I was sure to have the name right.

Reply ButtonReply

Stephanie

I cancelled my subscription on the 29th. After seeing the value of each box fall so drastically, not being happy or able to use most of what’s in my box, and if I do, it breaks me out, and not getting any spoilers for July, I wanna keep my $10 and spend it on something I’ll use. I think I made the right choice instead of being disapointed. At this point I don’t see it being likely that I’ll be sad I did, considering they’ll probably send a sea salt spray and such in this box. So disapointed in Sephora on this one. It’s rather obvious they hyped the boxes with limited availability and great products to start, then when the waitlist opened, the boxes are reguritated Birthday gifts from the past. I’ll just keep going in and asking for samples of things I want. I can easily get 3-4 samples of products of my choosing and will work for me each time I go and not pay. So what’s the point, Sephora?? 🙁 Just so disapointed.

Tina B.

Hi Stephanie, boy do I wish that I would’ve seen this a week ago. I just got an email from Sephora Play about a sneak peek for July and me like about 15 (posted) women on Sephora’s discussion page on their website saw first No Sneak Peek but the fact that my card (and theirs) was charged for their July’s box and now all of those and mine shows it’s now OUT OF STOCK! !! I mean what in the hay is going on with these sub boxes lately?? First Birchbox changes the way the “reward ” their faithful subscribers. Now this with Sephora. Do these companies really want to make us women upset, from mossing or broken items to not available or waitlists. I mean I know some ppl say that it’s only $10 but I can’t keep coming up with $10 here and there just to find a box that’s actually worth it, or a company you can trust. I feel like a bunch of others have said on social media and on those companies websites, “either get your act together or stop doing sub boxes ” it’s totally frustrating to me and I’m already stressed with economic difficulties and things going up in price and dealing with my kids and makeup prices being crazy expensive ya kno. It would be nice to have some kind of consistency in the monthly routine of thesr sub boxes that’s ALL. ok they give me a small sample this month next month something is broken or just plain out of stock, it’s a big time pain in my “rump” if you know what I mean. #TotallyConfused

Is it just me or the samples are really tiny? This will be my 3rd box… May cancel …I think the best box so far is ALlure.

Reply ButtonReply

Sydney

I cancelled mine today too. I cancelled Birchbox a couple months ago once I got off Sephora’s wait list, and now I am so done with these companies. I’m not subscribing to any more boxes unless they seriously step up their game. It irritates me that Sephora sent out these wonderful samples for the first months, and then changed everything once more spots opened up. It’s not worth wasting my money to support a company that’s going to do that- they’re not even trying to hide that the quality has significantly gone down! I’ll be saving my $10/month for something I actually want (like Chipotle) 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

Barbie

Agree totally. I grab my boxes once a week from my p.o. box, and noticed that Play’s samples now seem tiny – even side by side with my Walmart boxes. I may give it a couple more months, but yeah, they’re on the chopping block. Really disappointed.

Agree with your Allure comment too. (Totally keeping that sub! It never disappoints me in quantity or quality.)

Reply ButtonReply

HeatherF

I found more spoilers or *possible* spoilers anyway. So…now I’m addicted to sub boxes, this site AND the site where I found these spoilers, ha ha! Also, I’m going to start using my last initial since there are two HeatherS in this thread. Ha. So, anyway, the possible spoilers:

One thread listed:

*Benefit Dew the Hoola Liquid Bronzer

*Too Faced Soleil Chocolate Bronzer

*Smashbox Photo Finish Primer

*BeautyBlender Blotterazzi

*Ouai Wave Spray

*Nest Citrine

(And the spoiler post earlier had that wave spray too!)

And yet another spoiler said:

-First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser

-Smashbox Iconic Photo Finish Foundation primer

-Nest Citrine perfume

What do ya’ll think? I certainly don’t want two bronzers. I was REALLY hoping for one of the summer lip products Sephora has been hyping…I’m wicked into the wave spray. I’m excited to see what we’re actually going to get.

Reply ButtonReply

Stacy

Argh. I just looked at my Account and it shows my order as ‘PLAY! by SEPHORA / July 2016 Play! Box B – Normal/Dry’… so I’m guessing this month they are going to be doing variations of their boxes which I don’t love the idea of. I guess it’s good that they are going to cater more to our exact skin types but if they are doing variations I want a say because helloooo box envy. Also, just because my skin is normal/dry doesn’t mean I’m not sweating/glistening all summer long! I’m guessing I will get stuck with the liquid bronzer that I don’t want based on this, and may not get the blotterazzi which was one of the only reasons I didn’t cancel this months box. I hope I’m wrong and I just end up with a different cleanser or something…

Reply ButtonReply

CM

Where are you seeing that? Mine hasn’t updated yet either. I was so excited because I thought today would be the day — now that it’s a holiday weekend, does this mean we’ll have to wait until Tuesday? That would be a fail on Sephora’s part, as far as I’m concerned.

Heather F

Eeep! Mine hasn’t charged yet, but I’m thinking yes…this means there will be at least two variations. The suspense is killing me. I need a real spoiler. I’m a sneak peek addict. It’s a problem, ha ha.

Amanda

I would love all of these! I haven’t tried a wave spray yet because I’ve been hoping for a sample to try first. I have fine wavy hair. There are so many products that don’t work for me:(

Reply ButtonReply

HeatherF

@Amanda

Some of the ones I’ve tried and really liked are the Davines OI All in One Milk (one of the few Davines products I actually liked and really LOVE and discovered through Birchbox and on the way cheaper side, Treseme (sp?) makes a Sea Salt spray I like as well. I’m hoping for the wave spray through, in my first Play box.

d

@Amy – I may be mistaken, but I thought you were referring to SEPHORA when you asked, “When do they usually show what’s in the box?” That’s why I replied to you that Sephora doesn’t do a reveal until after the boxes have been mailed, but that certain media outlets may get “sneak peeks” (like this lovely site. 🙂 )

I hope I didn’t confuse you!

Also, you should receive your box the 3rd or 4th week of each month. (I’ve been receiving my boxes the third week). You’ll be charged between the 1st and 4th day of each month. HTH !

Reply ButtonReply

Heather

Man, I waited so long to subscribe to Play. I finally got in for the may box. I was disappointed in my box that first month, then june came. This sub really is not worth the money. EVERYTHING is tiny. If they call these “deluxe” samples they are crazy. I am unsubbing. I just unsubbed from birchbox as well. Leaving my beloved Boxycharm and my ipsy as the only 2 subs I have. Trust me boxycharm is was more worth it, at least in my opinion. I feel as though Play and BB just have been giving leftovers

Reply ButtonReply

K.B.

Oh I so agree! It’s so insulting to pay for a box, look inside, and receive tiny samples that are so clearly marked “Sample-not for re-sale”. And to think I paid Sephora $10 for these?
I took the trip to my free-standing Sephora today to cash in my points and also buy something so I could get the extra 50 points from my playcard. At the register, the SA tells me they’re all out of the 500 point Beauty Insiders gifts and they only have a few of the 100 ones. There’s a Sephora in a JCPenney in the mall next door, so I asked if she could call over there to see if they had any of the points gifts. They only had a few of the 100 point ones also. It seems that what they carry in the store is nowhere near comparable to online as Beauty Insider gifts. If I want to earn the extra 50 points with my Playcard I have to buy something in the store. Then if I want to redeem the points and get something worthwhile, I have to again purchase something else online for free shipping, unless I spend another $10 for the Sephora Flash shipping for a year. Double purchase just to get what I want or I waste those extra 50 points. More money sucked out of me for Sephora’s gain if I allow it. And I’m not falling for it.
Honestly, I walked around their store today, looking for something to buy, and I lost interest. That’s what subscription boxes and stores like TJMaxx will do to you. You have all these bargains that you get and you just can’t justify their prices anymore for full products. Not unless it’s a promo bag of goodies and that’s rare to find in their stores anymore.
I used to love Sephora, but they seem to be changing their model. As others have said, since July’s box is so secretive, it had better be the HG of boxes. Or I can see a lot of cancellations on the horizon.

Reply ButtonReply

Heather

Hey everyone…

I’m spoiler starved, so I was looking all over and on a Reddit Beauty Box thread I saw we might be getting:
Ouai Wave Spray

I’m stoked, I know some of you won’t be. Cannot wait to see the actual reveal. I am hoping for one of the new summer lip items Sephora keeps showing, like gorgeous colored balms from Tarte.

Reply ButtonReply

jennifer

Ouai makes alot of sense since they just did this promo thing on snapchat about a number of their hair products. The wave spray looked really nice, I hope its in next months box! I’d really like to try it

Reply ButtonReply

d

@Heather – I’ve been wanting to try something by Ouai, so I’m excited to hear it might be one of the items in July’s box! Thanks for posting!

Reply ButtonReply

Valkyrie88

Here are some of my guesses (and hopes) for July! Sea salt spray (or dry shampoo? Humidity shield? Would love to receive Ouai, Livingproof or Dry Bar!) , BB cream, lip stain and an SPF setting spray. I would love to get a liquid lipstick but the possibles have thinking “Popsicle stained lips” maybe a lip/cheek stain 2 in 1? I cannot wait! Come on spoilers!!!

Valkyrie89

Popsicles*

Reply ButtonReply

Amy

When do they usually show what’s in the box?

Reply ButtonReply

d

@Amy – Sephora doesn’t reveal the contents until after the boxes have been mailed out. I’m not sure how the “sneak peeks” are known, but maybe certain media outlets are granted access.

Reply ButtonReply

Heather

If you look back on this site full spoilers (that show everything in the boxes) have been made available between the second and forth week of the month proceeding the box. So, I’m anxiously awaiting them, and they will be shown here UNLESS they have stopped as of this box. I’m very excited for my first box.

Dianne

Maybe too faced eyeliner ? Just guessing

Reply ButtonReply

Heather

July will be my first month with Play and I’m DYING for spoilers. Is it just me or is this month way slower than previous months when it comes to the sneak peeks?

Reply ButtonReply

Gracie

so true! it’s my first month as well and im dying to see what’ inside D:

Reply ButtonReply

Heather

Right?! I even looked back and all of the previous month’s full spoiler post dates and they were all much earlier than the 24th. #dying

d

I have no idea what will be included in July’s box, but when I look at the pic of the pastel “popsicles” (or frozen yogurt bars?), I’m reminded of bars of soap. : ) I guess it’s because of the grooves in the “popsicles” / frozen yogurt bars. Doubt we will receive mini bars of soap in the next box, though. haha

I was almost desperate to get off the wait list tat I had been on since September because of the amazing value the boxes seemed to have. Now I’m almost wishing I hadn’t gotten off the wait list. The value of these boxes/bags have gone down tremendously. I haven’t even received my first box and I’m tempted to cancel. I am so disappointed.

Reply ButtonReply

d

The first 8 boxes I received (Sept – April) were great! May’s box was a disappointment, and subpar compared to the previous boxes. June’s box was better than May’s, but I do see the boxes going “down hill.” From what I hear by those who subscribe to a lot of beauty boxes, it seems to be common for beauty boxes to be great for awhile, but then they inevitably become something just average or even disappointing. Guess they need to build up a subscriber base by initially offering great goodies, but once they reach a certain number of subscribers, they don’t need to try as hard? I don’t know. I’ll continue subscribing to Play! by Sephora because I still think it’s fun for just $10 a month, but the boxes definitely have become weaker.

Reply ButtonReply

Veronica

That*

Reply ButtonReply

jen

I’m guessing something with SPF like a tinted moisturizer. A beachy salt spray probably and maybe a cream eyeshadow or something waterproof like the new too faced mascara.

Reply ButtonReply

jenn

Well I got mine today and it’s ok, but I won’t use half of it.

– Tarteguard 30 SPF lotion .23 oz
– They’re Real! Mascara .10 oz
– Bumble & Bumble Don’t Blow It .5 oz
– Bare Minerals bareSkin bronzer .10 oz
– Becca Backlight Priming Filter .20 oz
– Tocca Beauty perfume sample .05 oz

I’m pretty close to cancelling this one.

Reply ButtonReply

Jenni

I received my second box and I honestly don’t know why people think this box is super great. The samples are very small IMO. I have very long, thick hair and by them giving me a tiny tube of hair stuff doesn’t give me a chance to know if it works good or not. I am going to cancel this one and birchbox because neither one is worth $10. I wanted to make a comment about the waitlist, I was initially put on the waitlist and just kept checking back every couple days by just going back on their site and I “got lucky” and it let me join. I never got an email telling me that I had a spot, that’s how I got in.

Reply ButtonReply

Stephanie

My hair product was almost 3/4 empty, already, too. I have really oily skin, so I can’t use the primer. I have medium skin, so don’t need the bronzer. I do love the mascara, and am unsure about the sunscreen, but it won’t last long, and I’m not paying for that! My everyday lotion has SPF in it. So disappointed in these boxes! Glad someone else feels the same. My husband was looking at the products I had sitting on the table and was shocked, “You paid $10 for that?”. He’s been to Sephora enough with me, and seen me get other boxes to know it’s not a good deal. I get more products with their gift with purchase the do occasionally. I got twice that many with the holiday GWP, for heavens sake. I’m still using half of them, TBH.

Reply ButtonReply

Stephanie

I was pretty disappointed in this months box. I’ve noticed that most everything in the boxes recently are past birthday gifts or items that were 100 point perks at one point. Seems a bit of a sham if you’re paying $10 for it. I already have 3 tubes of They’re Real, and love it, but don’t need another. Depending on July’s box, I will probably be cancelling. Was worth trying for a treat, but you can honestly get the same thing by going into the store and just ASKING for samples of what you’d like to try, and get them for free. I do this for skin care and perfume all the time. They customize them up and I’m on my way. I can try high end stuff, and don’t have to wait for my box, or pay, or worry if it’ll be my color or for my skin type.

A colorful popsicle. Clinque pop lipstick or new nail polishes or sunscreen or eyeshadow or self tanner. Guessing

Their web site were you sign up must be acting up with all of the people from birchbox. It took 15 tries in 2 days and I got subscribed. The site keeped taking me to their rule page and then told me how to sign up an I followed that pages direction and it went though. First it didn’t take me to rule page just said I was on the wait list. Its overloaded.

I’m thinking it’s the “MILK Makeup~Cooling Water Stick”!! They’ve been really pushing it for the past couple months. Emails, tutorials, reveals.. It’s been everywhere. That’s my guess as their cool-down item.??? Along with after sun type product, SPF item, spray water, wipes, lip treatment & of course a tan towel or 2!??
