The box came with this information card. This month, the theme was “basic training.”
Camouflage Bandana – Value $3 (?)
Sorry no picture of Nyx modeling this. It isn’t big enough to fit around a Rottweiler neck. That is the problem with including wearable items in a box for large dogs, I guess. (The value was $5.99 on the information card but I have seen similar things on sale in bulk as promotional items so I’ve opted to list a lower value here.)
Bow Wow Pet Products Camo Eagle – Value $10 (?)
This is size appropriate, which is nice. The body and wings are a tougher material so of course Nyx went straight for the feet and head (and yes, stuffing was removed). I can’t find this online (except for on eBay from a seller who seems to have received this same box and listed every item) and the items in my box differed somewhat from the information card, so the value is a guess.
Troop Treats (6 oz) – Value $6 (?)
These are a Pet Gift Box exclusive. I’ve gone with a somewhat lower value than the information card lists since chicken is only the fifth ingredient after rice flour, wheat starch, glycerin, and water. Similar sizes of treats from BarkBox cost maybe $8 or $9 but have more meat in them.
US Army Knotted Rope Toy for Dogs – Value $7 (?)
Nyx likes rope toys. This one is a little small for tugging with a dog who has strong, powerful jaws, but I have let her chew on it for short periods (under supervision).
US Army Crinkle Soldiers Dog Toy – Value $10 (?)
For this and the other US Army branded toys, the Army actually licenses use of its trademarks to the toy production company. So the use of the logo is legitimate, though these are obviously not produced by the US Army. Nyx hasn’t had this one yet (she only gets to ruin one toy per day and we’ve received a LOT of dog boxes lately), but I am sure she will love it. I’m not sure it will last for a long time, but it will be enjoyed, if only briefly.
Nyx was distracted for a moment, but kept the eagle very, very close.
Nyx at work on the eagle’s feet.
Nyx refusing to let me have the eagle back after she’d torn a hole in it.
Verdict: I calculated a value of about $36 for the May Pet GiftBox. Of course, since I couldn’t actually find the same items online, it’s hard to say how accurate that value is. My estimates give the box a value higher than the cost of the subscription, though, which is nice. The toys were well-chosen and fit the theme, though I wasn’t thrilled about the ingredients in the treats and the bandana was too small for Nyx.
