Angels’ Cup Coffee Subscription Box Review + Coupon- Jun 2016

This post may contain referral/affiliate links. Read the full disclosure.

Angels’ Cup is a coffee subscription box that sends blind shipments of freshly roasted coffee bean samples, but it’s more than just a coffee subscription — it’s a tasting experience!

Angels’ Cup labels their coffee samples with only a roast date and a unique code. They encourage subscribers to blind taste the coffee, and to try and pick out its notes and flavors. Using either the Angels’ Cup app or the included tasting cards, you can compare your tasting notes with the experts. Over time, this can help you develop the ability to pick out subtle flavors in coffee with only a sniff or a sip!

Freshness is a top priority for Angels’ Cup, and they ensure a 24 hour turnaround time between receiving freshly roasted beans, packing them, and shipping them out to subscribers.

Subscribers can choose to have their beans sent whole, coarsely ground (for French press coffee), or finely ground (for drip coffee).

Angels’ Cup ships every week, but subscribers can adjust their preferences online to receive boxes less frequently.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

This is a review of the Cupping Flight. (I’ve previously reviewed the Angels’ Cup Black Box.) Angels’ Cup recently sent subscribers an email announcing that the size of the Cupping Flight samples would be increase by 14%. The new size means that the samples are big enough to brew two full cups. To accompany the size change, the cost of the subscription has increased from $8.99 to $9.99 (though current subscribers are grandfathered into the old pricing).

Angels’ Cup includes individual tasting cards that match up with each of the coffees they send.

To guide your tasting, you can use either the provided tasting cards or the Angels’ Cup App.

The app is really simple and fun to use.

It’s definitely possible to do a tasting without the App, but I think it adds a lot to the experience.

For a full walk-through of how to do a guided cupping using the Angels’ Cup App, check out my past Angels’ Cup reviews.

The packaging is designed so you can make tasting notes directly on the sample bags. One side has designated space to note color, flavor, aroma, and brewing method.

The other side has a taste chart you can fill in.

These are the coffees that were included with this shipment.

PERC Coffee Tanzania Tarime AB– $15 for 12 oz.

Flavors include “raisin, fig, [and] ginger bread.”

Milepost Coffee Zimbabwe AA- Smaldeel Estate– $15 for 12 oz.

Flavors include “grapefruit, plum, grilled/meat.”

Red Rooster Coffee Colombia- San Adolfo– $17 for 12 oz.

Flavors include “peach, lemon, [and] yellow raisin.”

Noble Coffee Roasters Ethiopia- Addis Kidane

Flavors include “blueberry, cream, [and] peach.”

Angels’ Cup sends coffee with a light or medium roast (which is my preference), and I love that they source from top “third wave” roasters. I’ve been extremely impressed with both the roasters and coffees that I’ve received from Angels’ Cup, and this shipment is no exception. I especially loved the Red Rooster Columbian!

Verdict: I really enjoy Angels’ Cup! I like the guided tastings, and I’ve come to expect delicious, high quality beans in every box. At $9.99, this isn’t a high value subscription, but I do think Angels’ Cup sends great coffee and provides a unique blind tasting experience. (FYI- the per-cup cost is about $1.25.) If you’re interested in sampling quality coffee from top third wave roasters, I can definitely recommend this subscription.

Are you a coffee lover? Will try out your blind tasting skills with Angels’ Cup?

  1. Thank you so much for sharing these reviews! I just ordered three months worth of coffee as a birthday gift for a fellow coffee lover. I’m sure they will love it!

Please note – At no point during the check out process did they provide a spot for you to enter a coupon code, so I missed out on whatever discount they had provided your subscribers – FYI!?!?!

Thank you again for all you do! 🙂
