One side of the information card had a suggested workout and the other side was a more traditional information card. There was also some product literature for one of the items in the box.
Wilde Bar in Turkey Cranberry (1.06 oz) – Value $2.33
Wilde Bar in Sweet Thai Style Basil Chicken (1.06 oz) – Value $2.33
These are made from slow baked turkey and chicken, respectively. I am a vegetarian so I dropped these off in the “free snacks” area at work and they disappeared quickly. So I guess someone enjoyed them.
Pasta Chips in Garlic Olive Oil (1 oz) – Value $0.88
These were more like “pasta crumbs” because they were smashed to bits by something else (presumably the heavy can of energy drink). But, I have had these in the past and enjoyed them fairly well.
Purely Elizabeth Granola + Puffs Cereal (1.1 oz) – Value $0.96
This is gluten free, vegan, non-GMO, organic, and free of refined sugar (though it is sweetened with coconut sugar and has 4g of sugars per serving). I like to keep little containers like this on hand for when I’m in a hurry in the morning. This one was pretty good (I like pumpkin!). Although it doesn’t show in the photo, the package here was pretty smashed, too. But the product was intact.
FitAid (12 oz) – Value $2.48
Here is a list of the key ingredients and purported benefits of this product: “Glutamine for Muscle Recovery, Amino Acids/BCAAs for Strength, Speed & Power, Glucosamine for Joint Health, Electrolytes for Muscle Stamina, B Complex, Green Tea Extract for Endurance/ Energy, Co-Q10 & Omega 3 EFA for Cardiovascular Support, Turmeric, Quercetin for Flexibility & Agility”
This reminded me of about every other energy drink I’ve had (the omega 3s are from algae, not fish), but to be fair, I am not a regular consumer of such things. Before you click the link to go to their website, I will warn you it is about the most obnoxious website of all time. It wouldn’t let me leave the page easily, even when I tried to close the browser tab.
Chinook Seedery Hatch Green Chile (1.5 oz) – Value $2.99
I like snacks that are more easily accessible although I suppose since these take some work to open the shells, I’ll give up faster and not consume as many calories…seeds are a good source of healthful fats, though, and this was a good inclusion in the box.
Health Warrior Chia Protein Bar in Peanut Butter Cacao (1.76 oz) – Value $2.20
I like the nutrients in here (chia seeds have lots of fiber and healthful fats). But the texture leaves something to be desired (kind of hard/crumbly/gritty). If they could make these out of hemp seeds instead, I would be all over them.
Smackers in Caramel Peanut (1.4 oz) – Value $1.42
This tasted like eating a cross between a Snickers bar and a Milky Way, though the texture was different (there was a lot more sugar than I’m used to) so it was probably my favorite item in the box. I liked the smaller portion size, too!
Nuts about Energy Balls in Protein Plus Peanut Butter (1.7 oz) – Value $1.42
I have had these before, maybe in Love with Food? I did like them but I am a big fan of peanut butter in general. This may not be the best box for someone with nut or seed allergies, though.
Verdict: I calculated a value of about $17 for the April FitSnack. That is somewhat below the cost of the box on a month-to-month basis and even lower when you consider the separate shipping charge. I do think the items were appropriately chosen (though of course I’m disappointed to receive actual meat), for the most part, but I would like to see one or two more items to increase the value a little bit. I also wish this had been packaged a little more carefully since the energy drink demolished the pasta chips and dented the cereal container.
What did you think of the April FitSnack?
