Wantable Makeup Subscription Box Review – April 2016

This post may contain referral/affiliate links. Read the full disclosure.

Wantable is a monthly subscription service that has 3 different plans: Makeup, Accessories, and Intimates. (Plus a styling service for Fitness wear and clothing similar to Stitch Fix in the try-then-buy model.) It’s one of the pricier subscriptions ($40 a month), but everything they send is full size, and they fully customize the boxes based on your preferences. You also can return individual items from any box for a refund.

Here is my invoice. In addition to the retail price of the item, they also include “your price,” which is how much you would get refunded if you wanted to return that item.

You get to take a very detailed survey of what items you love, like and dislike. You won’t receive anything in your dislike list. Here’s how my personal preferences are set up. Also, your stylist can send you notes or respond to comments you’ve added to your profile.

Colorscience Pressed Mineral Eye Shadow Palette in Seductive Smoke – value: $49 (My Price: $19.41)

I was so happy to get an eye palette! There’s 4 shades in this palette. More photos below…

Here are the shadows. The palette comes with a nice mirror that’s the full size of the lid and a dual-ended brush. I like the colors together, I just wish they had more pigment. Swatches at the end of the article.

BellaPierre Gel Eye Liner in Midnight Blue – value: $15 (My price: $5.49)

This eyeliner is nice – it goes on well and has pretty nice pigmentation. The blue is very subtle – it looks very grey swatched.

Doucce Ultra Precision Eyeliner – value: $22 (My Price: $8.71)

I don’t even understand why this eyeliner is called “Ultra Precision.” I was expecting a liquid or some sort of different kind of tip designed specifically for precision. It’s just a normal eyeliner. And the pigmentation is not great. It took me a couple swiped to get an opaque swatch. I’d never pay full price for this liner – if I’m going to go buy a $22 eyeliner, I’ll spend a couple bucks less and buy Urban Decay or Kat Von D and get performance I love.

Bellapierre Mineral Lipstick in Couture – value: $15 (My Price: $5.94)

This lipstick is pretty good. It has great color payoff and it feels moisturizing on my lips. I love that they sent me a berry shade, but I don’t like how the formula is almost chromatic… It’s a pretty berry purple but shimmers blue. Not my style.

Here are swatches of the Lipstick, Bellapierre blue eyeliner, and the Doucce eyeliner (top to bottom).

And here are the swatches of the eyeliners in the palette, from left to right. You can see what I mean about them not being very pigmented.

And here’s a look with the eyeshadow palette, the Bellapierre blue eyeliner, and the lipstick! You can really see in the photo on the right what I mean about how the lipstick shimmers blue.

Verdict: I like my Wantable Makeup box this month alright. I like the palette and the lipstick the best but both have something I’d tweak a bit with them, but that’s okay. I’ve had better boxes, and I’ve had worse. The total value comes out to $101, which I’m happy with.

  1. I fail to ever be impressed with this sub. If I got two eyeliners in one box that’d be enough for me to drop it.

Can I ask, what is your stylist referring to when she says she was able to include what you requested? Did you specifically request these items at one point or is she basing that comment off something else??

    • Amber, their new “stream” feature that they’ve had for the last few months is like Instagram but for photos of their products that subscribers get, uploaded by subscribers. Below each photo is a list of all the products in that photo, and you can click to request for your stylist to include them in your box.

I know you and a couple other commenters have expressed disappointment with 2 eyeliners, but I did request these at some point in my browsing of the stream.

Also, in your style profile you can dislike eyeliners or request to never be sent black eyeliners. There’s a lot of customization available to you with this subscription. Just something to keep in mind!

Here’s the link to the stream:

  2. I just wonder if it’s giving off a blue color because of whatever is around you. Like maybe it was the blue sky if you were going for natural lighting in your pic? The color looks lovely on you, but I understand why you don’t like the blue shimmer tone.

    • Amanda,
The formula itself is shimmery and it comes off as a blue tone to the shimmer when you turn it in the light (any light). Unfortunately it’s not just the lighting! Wish it were, though. It’s hard to translate how it looks exactly in photos! Thanks for reading!

  3. This makes me happy I stopped with them. I often would complain that I’d get a black eyeliner in every box and they’d just ignore it. I don’t like one single item you got and if I’d received it, I’d send the whole thing back.

  4. These look GREAT on you! From the simple overview, I wasn’t impressed, as the contents didn’t seem much different from other subs, but heck they got your colors spot on!!!!

  5. I like the lipstick! I just put my subscription on hold because I was getting a lot of the same old-same old products, not necessarily repeats but just a lot of not-very-exciting things. I’ll keep my eyes on your reviews, but truthfully this box is probably headed for cancellation on my end.

  6. Lipstick looks great one you!

    • *on 🙂

  7. Wow that lipstick color look amazing on you!

  8. You may not like the color, but that lipstick looks perfect on you. Wow.

  9. Wow I LOVE that lipstick! Hope I can find one in the swaps.

  10. The Colorscience palette is lovely. You might think the colour payoff isn’t great, but the shades look really pretty on you.
I’m tempted to buy one for myself!
