GlossyBox is a monthly beauty subscription box. They have the best packaging in the business, their products are usually deluxe-size or full size, and the value is usually really good too. The only issue with this box seems to be the late shipping – I would recommend just keeping that in mind and setting your expectations accordingly if you sign up for this box.

The packaging is amazing this month!

GlossyBox sent us this box early for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

Each box comes with a fold out card detailing the items included.

glossybox-feb-2016-glamglow

GlamGlow ThirstyCleanse - 1 oz Value $14

(Good to know for swaps - comes with inner foil seal)

I love GlamGlow products! (And GlossyBox usually includes one every few months, so that's a win!) This cleaner is mud-to-foam, but it isn't a super sudsing cleanser. The formula is paraben, phthalate, and sulfate free, and I found it to be very gentle too - no drying out my skin. My favorite part is the scent - it smells fresh and beachy!

Etre Belle Cosmetics Golden Skin Roll-On Caviar Eye Gel - 10 ml Value $22

This roll-on eye gel is very cooling and refreshing! If I could change anything about it, I would prefer for it to be fragrance-free, but fortunately, the scent isn't too strong.

glossybox-feb-2016-mask

BioRepublic Skincare Sheet Mask in Aloe Rescue - Value $5

Based on the info card, it looks like subscribers will receive different scent variations of this mask. I've tried this mask before (I think thanks to Birchbox), and it works well. I like that is paraben free, too! The only thing I'm not crazy about is that you have to wear the mask for 15-20 minutes - I'm bad at waiting for results!

glossybox-feb-2016-lipstick

Teeez Cosmetics Oasis Gem Lipstick in Heat Wave Ruby - Value $22

(I believe all subscribers will receive the same shade).

This lipstick is highly pigmented with a satin matte finish. I like the tone of this berry red for my skin tone:

glossybox-feb-2016-swatch

The packaging is fun too!

glossybox-feb-2016-pore

Benefit The Porefessional - 3 ml Value $4.80

This is a classic Benefit product that I've been using for years. In fact, I think it was one of the first makeup products I tried outside of the standard mascara, concealer and lip gloss that made me realize, "makeup is magic!" It is a primer/pore concealer combo and does the job of filling in pores really well for me!

Verdict: This box has a value of about $67. I think that's a good value for a $21 box. I think they did a good mix of makeup and indulgent skincare this month. Plus the packaging this month just makes it all a little better!

I finally got my box today, almost two weeks later than the shipping email said I’d get it. It was really light and looked like they forgot something. But since I only paid $8 for it, I’m not complaining. I would be disappointed if I’d pay $21. The lipstick color looks interesting, I can’t decide if I want to try it or swap it.

I just got my box today, and feel pretty neutral about it. If I had paid the full $20 I probably would have been disappointed. Pretty solid mix of products, and the eye roller is pretty neat. I would have rather have gotten a sample of the lipstick, and either a larger pore primer or something a little better than a sheet mask, since lip stick colors are less likely to work for everyone. I’m not sure if it works for me yet: berry lips with red/orange hair might be a little too bold for me.

Hi Molly,

The Teeez “Heat Wave Ruby” lipstick easily became one of my staples for that subtle pop of color I was looking for this month. When a lip color is too deep for my complexion, I gently apply a light concealer to my lips with my fingertip after applying the Teeez lipstick, to lighten the shade.

When I opened my box (didn’t look at spoilers) I thought, Oh no they forgot to add a few things. Nope. All there. Everything but the mask was hiding under the white confetti packing. That’s how small it all is. The box looked empty. That is kind of how I feel about this month. Empty. Looks like something you would get as a free with purchase from Ulta. At least the beautiful box gives me joy:)

Shellie

I just opened my first Glossybox. I got the exact same box that was reviewed.
The eye gel saved it for me. The porefessional is really small. I won’t use the lipstick it’s too dark and I don’t wear red.
I think I’m going to cancel and give boxycharm a try next month.

Gabrielle

Hello there Shellie,

Glad to hear you liked the Etre Belle Eye Gel. It’s a lifesaver for those days when you don’t get that much needed 8 hours! The Porefessional primer is one of my favorites from Benefit! Put a pea-sized amount on your fingertips and apply a thin layer to your t-zone.

I cancelled my glossy 5 months ago and i’m so glad I did. Look at this box… just like all the recent months – sample sizes. And not to mention they give out a GlamGlow sample product practically every other box. I know for a fact that Glossy gets these tiny samples for free since more than one item I’ve received from them has said “Sample, not for sale.” A year ago they used to be high class and send out great big items but not anymore

I am torn between adding this box or Boxycharm or the LF box out of the UK. I know a lot of people got this one with a really good coupon code from Gilt City. I am waiting for that, a good coupon might make my decision easier. I have to say I got one of the past boxes that were on sale for $15 not too long ago and an item arrived broken. Their customer service was excellent. I emailed about the problem. They were out of the broken item but offered a long list of items to choose from, one of which was the coveted Trust Fund nail polish. So they shipped me a $15 nail polish to cover a broken item out of a box I only paid $15 for to begin with. I was very pleased at how smoothly they handled my issue.

I have had nothing but problems with their customer service, after purchasing 3 of their past boxes. ($15 each). 2 of them came great, the 3rd box was out of stock, they offered me the December box. Okay, great! It took forever to ship and the eye shadow was shattered. Sent them another email, they sent me the list of items to pick one. I also requested the Trust Fund polish – and still waiting for it to ship! With an open case, ongoing for about 6 weeks now, there’s no excuse for them to take 3-4 days to respond to an email! None! I just want the polish and to be done with their non-existent CS. Ugh!

Reply ButtonReply

Paige

The CS agent told me it could take up to 2 weeks to get the replacement item from Glossybox. That was 6 days ago, so I am giving them another week, then I will call if I don’t have it. Hoping for the best. I must say I had an issue with Birchbox around the same time, and my replacement item, plus a bonus 2 sample mystery pack arrived within a day or 2 of my complaint.

Glossy box is a great box, I enjoyed it while I was getting it, but I started getting tired for the same samples over and over so I went online and requested to cancel. Much to my surprise, I still got charged for this month! Upon emailing glossy box, they say that their policy is to not cancel your next month’s box unless you do so before the 14th of the month prior (regardless of if they have charged you or not). Their customer service is so cold and unhelpful (you agreed to the terms of service; we have no obligation to help you), I will never sign back up.

I know a lot of people use mysubscriptionaddiction to decide whether or not to pick a box, I really think you guys should highlight this “feature” of it taking two months to cancel in your reviews.

Ann

I was pretty sure I had canceled too! Several months ago actually.

I love Glossybox. I am never disappointed. Their boxes are usually worth at least three times the $21.00 price. They offer a broad range of skin care, makeup and hair care in amazing packaging every month. What’s not to love? As for being comparing to Birchbox and Ipsy, one of my most recent Birchboxes barely made it to $18 in value and Ipsy was about $24. I think they are both on my chopping block.

Hey there Lynn,

I just got my box (the exact same as Liz’s). I like the GlamGlow but it’s so small, and my favorite item is the eye roller (but again, not full size). The Teez lipstick color isn’t flattering for me, the Benefit sample is tiny, and I have a million sheet masks I haven’t used yet.

I wouldn’t pay full price for this box unless they improve a lot. So far, it just seems to be going downhill.

Jen

i stopped by glossy a few months back because I was dissapointed in the boxes and value but i love my boxy and beautyfix. Always have great products.

Are Glossydots redeemable? I have over 1000 points and can’t figure out how or where to redeem????

Reply ButtonReply

Rhubarb

If you are an annual subscriber then you need to contact them to redeem them – which is not something I can seem to understand. Why is it that those who sub month to month can redeem them whenever they want, but annual subscribers must contact Glossybox to do so?

Kris

I love that lipstick color and Tweez has great packaging. Looks like a great mix of products. Looking forward to getting mine! Glossybox continues to be one of my favorite subs.

Shanna

I’m a little disappointed. I quit Birchbox (which I loved) and Ipsy (which was ehhh for me…and I gave it 14 months) because I was overrun with sample sizes. I took up Glossybox through a lifetime lock-in price and Boxycharm instead. The first couple Glossy’s were great, but I feel like they are going to smaller and smaller items overall. I still have tons of little samples. I like the full size and deluxe sample items better. That’s what several people told me Glossy would be like…it seems to be slipping fast for me. I’ll use the items, I LOVE those masks, and I am excited about the eye roller…hope it is in my box. I’m going on vacation in a month, so I would restock my travel kit with some of this box, but otherwise, it is just mediocre for me.

Reply ButtonReply

JillA

What is the “lock-in” price? I’ve been with GB for about 3 years and I always renew every year with a deal from Gilt City, etc. My boxes cost $8.75/mo using the 12 month voucher I bought. I’ve been doing it this way since 2013.

Reply ButtonReply

Abbey

How often is the deal on Gilt offered?

Donna

I do hope that GlossyBox reps read my review and other reviews posted about the downhill slide of their boxes. I was subscribed to Glossybox before, and due to financial reasons, I had to unsubscribe. The boxes were amazing, and they always offered new and undiscovered products. I was supper excited to sign on with my Gilt coupon, because it made the box more within my budget. However, I have noticed, that the boxes are less cohesive and seem to be filled with whatever products the company was able to swag from companies. I am unsure if the company is in trouble or perhaps it’s the new CEO who is making these decisions; however, the boxes are not exciting as they used to be. Despite their high value, these boxes are still $21 dollars for those people who did not get the gilt coupon, and I do notice many people saying that they are canceling their membership. I am locked in my yearly subscription, but I can tell you that unless you fix this issue, many of us will not renew. Okay, this was my opinion, and now for the review. Last month, we received a bunch of lotions, and a very poor quality lip product that highlights all of your flaws, and the color was absolutely inappropriate for winter. Who send peach pastel color for wintertime? If you want to remain neutral, then send us a beige at least. Then, the box was filled with lotions. This month, the box has a deluxe sample of a primer that has been circulating for many years, and there is nothing new about this product. But, my main problem is, the box has nothing to do with valentine’s day. Just because there is a red lipstick, it does not mean that the box is appropriate for valentine’s day. It just does not seem to be cohesive, as your boxes were before. Is the box horrible? Certainly not, but the boxes are just not what they were.

Reply ButtonReply

Jay

Why is it so essential that the box have something to do with Valentine’s Day? Should March, then, be St. Patrick’s Day themed? And April Earth Day themed? I get that GB has an (inconsistent) history of specially decorated, seasonally inspired boxes, and I’ve seen that sometimes there has been themed curation in the regular monthly boxes, like last October’s “French” box. Did they advertise this box as a special Valentine’s Day box, or just the box sent out during February?

However, I do agree that there has been an overall decline in the items sent out, both in terms of size and brand quality – the items and box value often seem to be more on par with Birchbox and ipsy, yet it costs 2x as much.

Reply ButtonReply

Donna

Hi Jay, I do believe that this particular box is themed for Valentine’s Day as they advertised many the produced for “Valentine’s Day Makeup Routine” in their spoilers. You can check if out if you want. Also, the box is has hearts and “love is in the air.” Statement in the card. Does it have to be a valentine’s day theme just because it’s February? Absolutely not. However, I do believe that if the box is advertised as such, then they should make sense of it in a more cohesive manner. That’s just my personal opinion.

Lori

Wow, I’ve heard that so many times. I was not impressed with last month’s box. I’ve only been a member since October but I can. Understand what you’re saying.

The box is beautiful but the products are just ok. I thought it was going to be a Valentine’s theme box, like last year but not at all. Glossybox keeps getting worse. This will be my last month. Boxycharm is so much better.

I’ve been subscribing to lots of boxes over the last 2 years and have managed to never get the porefessional sample. Even though it looks tiny, I’m so happy it’s finally in a box for me! I just resubbed to glossybox with the gilt city deal, I think it was a good call.

Reply ButtonReply

Anna

Same here! I’m still looking for the perfect primer, been wanting to try this one before I buy the full size. Fingers crossed it’s in my box!

Reply ButtonReply

Donna

I have tried many primers, but I really keep coming back to the clear the Smashbox primer. They make your makeup go on supper smoothly.

ee

what a lackluster box. So disappointed with this month’s box.

Reply ButtonReply

Courtney

Glossybox is usually my fave box. But I’m not enthralled by this one. If I could have received a stick perfume I’d have been happier…but it’s only for new subscribers. Sad and disappointed.

Reply ButtonReply

I’ve gotten every one of these items in the same sizes, except for the eye gel, in either an Ipsy bag or a Birchbox, both of which are $10. They are good products (except for the lipstick) but I don’t see twice the value of the other subs and certainly not anything fresh or new.

Reply ButtonReply

Betty

I love the box, I wanted to use my glossy dot to get an extra , but was told I couldn’t . Extremely disappointed as I have yet been able to use them to get a box I wanted.

I need to get the T Swift/Gwen Stafani look down I guess with all the red lip flair that goes around 🙂
I will use (try to pull off the red) everything in this box and appreciate the mix and quality of brands found in the curation. I guess I hyped myself up with valentine’s and girly gifts so i figured i would definantly see an ‘extra’ so that’s entirely my fault haha. A gourmet chocolate would have rang my bell on this box 😉 or even a small piece of jewelry with a cute cloud with the whole ‘in the air’ theme. It feels like the hubby took me out to a fabulous dinner but forgot the flowers. We women are a hard crowd to please aren’t we?! I still do appreciate this month’s products and box.

Rebecca

I love the tone of that lipstick! I have enough red lipstick to last me to eternity, but I love trying new ones 🙂

But I *literally* just bought a pack of three of these sheet masks (Cucumber Breeze Soothing Fiber) yesterday from Birchbox.

Hopefully I’ll get both of these items!

Reply ButtonReply

Rebecca

Meant to add that I wouldn’t mind having a fourth mask!

Lynn

I’m looking forward to this one…wow, what a beautiful box for February! The products may not be as thrilling to some but everything in this box would get used by me….hoping I get the same as you Liz! Taking advantage of the Gilt City deal makes this one under 9 bucks….cheaper than Birchbox and Ipsy….in my opinion a big win!

Reply ButtonReply

Rose

What is gilt city deal? What is the swap site everyone talks about also??

Thanks in advance!

Reply ButtonReply

Valerie

Back in December, Gilt City was selling a 12 month subscription to Glossy Box for something like $120. If you were new to Gilt City, there was a coupon for 30% off any order, bringing the cost of each box to <$9. It was a fantastic deal, which isn't available anymore.
The swap site is on this website, you can find a link at the top of the page (Swaps). It's a place where people put the items they get in boxes that they don't want/need, hoping to swap for something they do.

Tierney

Not excited at all for this. Like others have said – it definitely feels like something is missing. Also, I’m pretty tired of getting dark or red lip colors in my sub boxes. I’m more of a nude, pink or coral girl, so this one will be added to the swap site. If I had paid full-price for this box, I would be annoyed enough to cancel immediately (mostly because of the skimpiness of the items). I have a couple more months on my Gilt deal, and I’m heavily leaning towards not re-subbing.
