BarkBox is a subscription box for dogs. It’s the most popular dog subscription box. You’ve seen the small dog version, but since they customize based on dog size, we thought you might like to see what you’d get if you have a large dog, so this is a review of the “Big & Bold” box for a 50+ pound dog. (My dog, Nyx, is a Rottweiler who currently weighs about 84 pounds.)
My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Good to Know: BarkBox offers a heavy chewer option. After you sign up, you can email them to request this. This box is supposedly the heavy chewer option.
The theme this month was Chinese New Year! I’ve gotten a lot of Valentine’s Day themed boxes this month, so I’m happy to have something different for a change.
Benny’s Famous Noodles Toy – Value $14
This was really two toys in one – the outer carton is like a plush toy (no stuffing but something crinkly inside) and then the “noodles” inside were a rope toy. Nyx thought this was fun.
Butcher’s Block Bones 9” Krunchie Tube – Value $5 (?)
The link is to a similar item because I couldn’t find the 9 inch krunchie tubes online. Nyx has had these before and thought they were awesome. I will probably take a chance with it – if I don’t give her any treats a few days before or after, she’ll probably be able to handle it OK. (If you’re reading this and unfamiliar with my dog’s issues, she has inflammatory bowel disease and we have to be super careful about her diet.)
Blue Furchun Cookie Toy – Value $14
This seems pretty sturdy. You can put some treats inside it or I think peanut butter or wet food would also work, since there don’t seem to be any parts that would hurt doggie tongues!
Healthy Dogma Chicken Kung Pow! Barkers (5 oz) – Value $8
BarkBox does really well with sticking to a theme. I think it helps that so many companies will custom make or custom package items for them. The packaging here is adorable. They’re free of wheat and gluten and made in the USA!
Nootie Chomp Sticks Dental Treats for Dogs (4.7 oz) – Value $10
These are also grain free and are made and sourced in the USA. So important for dog treats. The picture of the Furchun cookie shows it with a treat like this so that is one option. These must’ve been popular as they are currently sold out in the BarkBox shop.
So what Nyx is staring at in this picture is the third rope ball from the noodle toy, which I am holding above my head. After she removed it from the toy…
Verdict: I calculated a value of about $51 for this month’s BarkBox (large dog version). I thought the theme was pretty fun (and not the same theme as every other dog subscription box this month, and believe me, I see a lot of dog boxes…). The toy was of average durability for a destructive dog like Nyx but would probably last longer with most dogs. I love that the treats are made and sourced in the USA. Also, the value is pretty good for a dog subscription, especially if you do a multi-month subscription or use a coupon.
What do you think of the February 2016 BarkBox dog subscription box? Do you subscribe to any dog or cat boxes?
