Pearlesque Box - July 2017

The July Pearlesque Box will feature the brand LXMI. There will be full-sized products with a retail value of $106.

Leila Janah founded LXMI after a chance discovery of Nilotica, LXMI’s signature ingredient, at a market in Uganda. She was astounded by the rare butter’s ability to transform her moisture-deprived, overly-traveled skin from lackluster to luminous. Once she learned that she could help marginalized East African women find dignified work through the wild harvesting, production and exportation of Nilotica, she knew she had to change her life to share her new skincare secret with the world.

But she didn’t stop there. She went the extra mile(s) to source Nilotica Reserve™, now LXMI’s exclusive form of the butter, from the highest grade nuts in the most pristine areas of the Nile River Valley. Nilotica Reserve’s characteristics are sky-high essential fatty acids (+25% that of traditional Shea Butter), natural vitamin crystals that dissolve on skin, and impact sourcing techniques to ensure that LXMI producers are always paid living wages for their efforts.

LXMI’s primary ingredient harvests enable their producers to earn at least 3x local wages.

They’ve built our supply chain carefully via non-profit collectives. They believe that fair-wage, dignified work elevates the end product, creating a higher level of luxury for discerning consumers.

In fact, they promise that for each of our primary ingredient harvests, the producers earn at least 3x the local average wage. These living wages will help chip away at some of the world’s most serious problems, from childhood malnutrition to human trafficking. Let’s transform our skin, our planet and people for the better.

LXMI is named after the founder’s favorite Hindu goddess, whose four hands are thought to represent prosperity, liberation, morality, and love – two giving hands and two receiving hands.

The brand seal represents this concept of giving and receiving. In other words, giving back isn’t an afterthought; it is at the core of LXMI’s DNA. In fact, it’s the reason for being.

  1. It seems like a very strange summer box. The balm to oil is for very dry skin and sounds great in the winter, but in a humid climate this sounds completely off season. I don’t quite get it.

    • It does seem a little strange for a summer box item initially- BUT, upon reading up on it more, it seems the eastern shea butter (nilotica -that is the primary ingredient in lxmi’s products) is widely considered the “summer” version of shea butter as it’s (apparently) much lighter (though more nutrient-dense) than it’s western counterpart – maybe that has something to do with the product choices

  2. ANd since this brand has only 2 products, both will be featured and full size for both. Not bad considering if you have to pay over 100$ plus taxes at Sephora while you can get both for the price that is even cheaper than 1 single product

  3. Sephora does carry this brand so go check them out to see if you want to have this box for July. I’d personally skip it myself

  4. Sephoras website has fabulous reviews on these products

  5. I know Sephora has carried this brand for a long time but I never have enough incentives to purchase anything from them because the reviews are kinda up and down. Some love it and some hate it. And funny that this brand has only 2 products so both of them will be featured and they are both full size according the RV in the spoilers.

My tips for those thinking that you want to get this box in July, highly recommend checking out your local Sephora to get a feel of it from the testers. Their products are not for everyone.

  6. I just ordered the balm-to-oil yesterday!!! I had never heard of the company before yesterday either, but the fact that they are featured by Pearlesque makes me much more confident in the purchase. I’m excited to see what items are featured.

    • Please let us know if you like the melt product. It looks like they only have 2 products right now the balm and a moisturizer and they are $58 and $48 so maybe it will be full size of those 2 which equals $106. Just joined pearlesque last month and canceled so I would just try one box but will probably sign back up.

      • Will do!

I was thinking about cancelling my order and getting this box instead, but I don’t want to wait until the end of July ; )

      • I received the balm-to -oil on Monday and I live in Alaska (as in not as hot as the rest of the US) , and the product had melted, almost completely. There were solid chunks suspended within, kind of like when you melt solidified coconut oil in the microwave and there are little solid bits that dont quite melt as fast as the rest. Now, the site does reference “microcrystals in the Pure Nilotica Melt that dissolve on your skin”, however, these solid suspensions were not micro. It took about 24 hrs for the product in the jar to regain solid form, but even then, there were still the solid chunks suspended throughout. I used the spatula and scraped a little from the lid to test the actual product. It did melt on contact as with other shea balm products, except for the little solid bits. I waited to see if they would soften with the heat of my skin, and they didn’t really. It took quite a bit of effort to rub them in, and I ended up having to wipe some off. I am not sure what type of shipping Pearlesque provides, but this month, with the nature of this product, should probably ship at least priority. I don’t know if it is possible to insulate the box at all, but it would be worth looking in to. Being that the entire extraction process is temperature controlled (according to the LXMI site), it seems it would be beneficial to maintain the temperature of the finished product as well, especially as there is only 1 ingredient. I am no chemist, so I can’t speak to whether the “melting” of the product during shipment compromised the quality of the product. I will return this container and ask for a sample in store before I make up my mind. I really want to give the Pure Nilotica Melt an honest shot as the reviews are overwhelmingly positive, the simple ingredient deck with the wide range of benefits is appealing, and the mission behind the brand is impressive.

        • Thanks for the initial review! I’m in FL so I will just prepare for a liquid product if they send this. Their IG (pearlesque) said something about one of the products having caffeine this month and I didn’t think either product had caffeine listed so they may be sending a new product instead of these even though I’d like to just try the 2 they have already.
