I emailed them my concerns and this is their reply. I hope this helps with some of our questions.
********************
Thanks for reaching out. We are sorry to hear that you have these concerns so we are happy to answer all your questions.

First, our boxes are not sold “as-is”, if an item is received damaged, we replace it. We only feature and ship brand new, never used and straight from the designers products. Never do we buy from mass discount stores. We work direct with designers.

The Eddie Borgo pochette and ALL the items in the BLACK box will be brand new made just for us straight from the designers. Our orders are large so not many designers have stock on hand in the amounts we need. So, with the BLACK box and our normal boxes, we need to order months in advance because the designers need the lead time to manufacture our full orders from scratch.

When it comes to any damaged item in a box, this can happen in shipment, which we understand happens, so we only ask that you let us know of any damage on any item with-in 3 days of receiving. We will always replace any damaged items if you reach out with-in 3 days of receiving with images.

We have not yet disclosed how many items are in the BLACK box, but we can tell you that YES, they are ALL high end, just like last years BLACK box but with even more value this year. The BLACK box has over $2100 in value. This box is amazing and better than ever.

Also, when it comes to the Luxor BLACK box, we are shipping it with signature required confirmation, so we do not anticipate any problems with the USPS because everyone will have to sign for their box. With a box this expensive, we didn’t want to take any chances.

We hope this helps and we would be happy to answer any additional questions you have.

I read the terms and this box won’t ship out till August 1st. That’s like 3 months away! Seems like a crazy long wait time for such an expensive box. Makes me wonder if they take our money first and then figure out what goes in the box? Otherwise, why the long wait?

I would be wary of spending this much on a box we won’t get for 3 months – especially after the Little Lace Box debacle. These box companies go out of business with little to no notice at the drop of a hat, leaving customers twisting in the wind trying to recover their funds. Not that Luxor will be like LLB, but it’s good to be cautious.

Also, shipping insurance is to protect the shipper. Especially with PayPal. It should be Luxor’s responsibility to file claims with USPS. As an eBay/PayPal seller who ships USPS practically every day, this is what USPS and PayPal have always conveyed to me.

Additionally, PayPal used to required sellers to have USPS Signature Confirmation on all items sold over $250. Meaning the addressee had to sign for the package to be delivered. The postal carrier could not just leave it on the porch. However, up until not too long ago, PayPal changed that amount to $750. Which makes the almost $700 purchase price of the box make sense because Luxor wants to avoid PayPal forcing them to buy Sig Confirmation to keep their Seller Protection.

However, for a box this expensive, Luxor should just fork over the $2.45 for Signature Confirmation to protect their customers. Or, at the very least, allow customers the option to pay for Signature Confirmation themselves (if you’re paying this much for a box, what’s a couple more dollars to keep such an expensive box from being left on a porch unattended??).

I don’t know… this one seems really risky to me with the Luxor terms and conditions that put any and all issues with the box on the customer, even if Luxor is at fault. No thanks!

Agree 100%. The risk is on the shipper, don’t like it, open a brick-and-mortar store. You’re basically saying you don’t trust your customers not to try and scam you and what is that? We don’t live in such a nice world. I’ve had boxes, everything from running pants to a breast pump, go missing by all carriers, sometimes they were mishandled by the carrier and get found, once or twice they were probably stolen. No way would I give over $600 to a company who washes their hands of my package once it leaves their door.

Guys, also be aware that you may have difficulty arguing for a refund through PayPal.

First, the terms state that returns themselves (not even taking into account that the purpose of a return would be for refund, exchange, or credit) are not permitted (which PayPal could require). If the sellers rejects a return, this could, at the very LEAST delay this process.

Second, and most importantly, Paypal UA Section 13.10 states “An item is not Significantly Not as Described if: a. The defect in the item was correctly described in the listing. For example, if the listing states one of the following: “Item may not work properly,” “Item is missing some parts,” or “See picture for scratches or damages.”

Here there are two issues, all items are NOT currently described (we only have a spoiler for one – which is why you should AT LEAST, even if you ignore all other advice here, WAIT FOR FULL SPOILERS). The other problem is there are no actual representations (although a reasonable person would assume, especially given the provided retail value) that the Borga purse and other items are in new condition and un-used. The only argument you might have is that the retail value of defective/blemished products results in a retail market value of below the promised amount (over $2,100).

TLDR; ***Please don’t rely on PayPal to provide a refund for this box!!!***

So, I can’t speak to the damaged backpacks as I did not get the Black Box last year, but I DID email them asking if this box would be insured for full value and received this very quick reply –

Hi Nora,

Thanks for reaching out and to answer your question…YES, we will be insuring them for $700. We are sorry for any confusion from our disclaimer, but we always insure ALL our boxes and we always take care of any damage or any boxes that are lost in the mail.

What our disclaimer is stating is… if the USPS marks your box “delivered” and you reach out to us saying you never received, then we will inform you that you will have to file a claim with the USPS since they are claiming it’s delivered and you are saying different. It usually gets fixed asap with the USPS as we have rarely had a problem with this as postal workers have to actually scan your box to mark it “delivered” once they drop it off to you.

But, if you reach out to us saying you never received, and tracking shows “not delivered”, then we take care of everything. We have full insurance coverage for each box that ships.

We are always here for our customers for any reason and will stand behind all shipments with full refunds or re-ship of a new box if you do not receive.

We hope that helps clarify the disclaimer and please let us know if we can help in any other way. Have a great day. 🙂

Good news on one front at least… got an email from Luxor this morning that said all Black boxes will be sent with Signature Confirmation. So there’s that I guess. 🙂

Note that a box could be marked “Delivered” if it’s delivered to the wrong address, placed in an unsafe location, or damaged during delivery!

TJ

Exactly. It took a month for me to receive a swap package marked delivered by USPS. After I opened an inquiry, they simply told me it had been delivered, and the only reason it was found was because I called the supervisor on the email response directly, and he called around and found it at another apartment complex. Mine also has a habit of scanning it delivered, and not delivering it until the next day. Imagine if that had been this box. And that’s before adding in reading about the fiasco with last year’s backpacks.

Emily S.

Lawyer here. HORRIBLE idea to purchase an “as-is” item, from a company known to provide defective and/or blemished products, sight unseen, with potential for item variability, and for a high price. You are pre-paying a high amount of money to throw away your rights as a consumer.

When consumers make their voices heard via public criticism and using their wallets, companies listen. Consumers should band together and NOT PURCHASE this box unless Luxor removes the language which refuses exchange of defective and/or blemished items and option to return for a refund (even if the whole box needs to be returned). They could even have reasonable limitations, like a time period on return/ refund/ credit/ exchange requests. Plus, Luxor should have the good sense on their end to work THEIR rights to return/exchange items into contracts with their distributors so that there isn’t a downstream effect. I doubt they’re giving up those rights, which makes it doubly unfair that they expect consumers of THEIR product to do so.

Honestly, if you want this box band together to make your voices heard and don’t purchase until they change their terms. It’s a bad idea to rely on PayPal/credit card for refunds where you’ve accepted Luxor’s extremely one-sided terms from the get-go (it *may* not even be an option in some cases given the circumstances).

I just posted this comment below but it is so low on the chain and I want to make sure people see it so I am attaching it to the lawyer comment above. My issue wasn’t with a flawed product, it was with delivery (which wasn’t Luxor’s fault but they were ZERO help so I just wanted to make sure people were warned that if USPS messes up on the delivery, good luck trying to get your money back!):

I actually had a problem with a Luxor delivery. I was traveling and had stopped my mail, but USPS delivered this box anyway during the supposed mail hold and needless to say, it wasn’t there when I returned home. Long story short – Luxor washed their hands of it entirely (granted the box shouldn’t have been delivered so USPS really was the party at fault, but Luxor offered no assistance whatsoever) so I filed a claim with USPS. USPS rejected my claim 3 times, stating that the tracking said the package was delivered. I repeatedly presented USPS with their own email acknowledging the mail stop, the tracking which had delivery during the mail stop, plus the receipt for the Luxor box (it was one of their mystery boxes, not the regular subscription) plus an explanation of what Luxor Box was. After months of back and forth with USPS and filing appeal after appeal, I finally received a check from USPS for $114.14 for a $185 dollar box (not the value, the cost). I never received any explanation for why the full cost wasn’t covered (I’m willing to bet Luxor insured it at a lower rate than the cost), but honestly, I had been going back and forth with USPS for so long on this and I was just happy to have something so I let it go at that.

In short, Luxor did absolutely nothing to help with this situation and I ended up losing over $70 on a box that cost me $185. Using the same cost recovery ratio, if your box gets misdelivered somehow, you may only receive a check for $422, thus you would be out $262…and that’s assuming USPS finally concedes that it was actually their error. In my case that was crystal clear and they STILL fought me on it for months.

So although I like this bag, I would never risk that kind of money on a company with so little customer support.

I hope this warning helps someone else avoid what I went through. It wasn’t fun. Especially for such a pricey box.

Thanks for sharing your experience. First, I am appalled that Luxor provided no assistance. For the amount of money required there should have been some assistance. Also, being a newbie box subber this is one box after reading the comments that although the item looked really nice I am not as a consumer going to work harder than the seller who is supposedly wanting my business. There are too many other good companies and far cheaper that would try to help at the minimum.

Joy

Maybe I am behind the times, but I had never heard of Eddie Borgo before the silver bracelet from the last box. Besides that there is NO WAY I’d shell out almost $700.00 for a mystery box. I will use that money for a deposit on my Christmas, 2018 vacation to SE Asia.
I read their disclaimer about delivery. How is a customer responsible if the carrier loses their package? It’s supposed to be the company that is responsible. I don’t even think I would be able to file a claim with USPS since I didn’t ship the package (the claim has to be filed by the party that shipped the package). How awful of them to put that verbiage on their website.
I don’t even know if I’ll renew my annual sub with Luxor since I find that I don’t even use half of the items.

I would never put out that amount of money for an “as is” box. Read the disclaimer before you purchase. I’m sure the purse is beautiful but their CS should be outstanding too.

I love Luxor and every box is well worth the price you pay. This is a high end box…I received the last black box and it was everything it said it would be and more. I already bit the bullet and got this one, cannot wait!

$700 mystery box? errrr cute back but Nostrom Rack has 90% off sales that Im pretty sure I could curate a box worth the same retail price for around $350.

Please read their terms and conditions before paying for it. It says they are not responsible for missing and damaged box once it leaves the warehouse and that consumer has to resolve any issues directly with the carrier, which is USPS. I am NOT buying anything from Luxor.

f we pay with paypal can’t we file a paypal claim for damaged or missing boxes/items but than again if the CS sucks and I have to file a paypal claim maybe I just skip it.

I honestly would consider this, as I love purses HOWEVER how they treated customers with their last black box was horrible. With this cost of a Mystery box, there should be AMAZING customer service when people have legitimate issues. Sending out scratched backpacks, then trying to make the customers keep them, and when they did honor the replacement, they sent other customers the same scratched backpack(s) others had received initially. Their customer service alone is what stops me completely from buying from them anymore. I was a long time subber until I had an issue with images and had a horrible experience. There were threads on the forum of others having poor experiences and now they have their we are not responsible for anything disclaimer. Um NOPE.
Pretty purse though.

So this is the big news they have been hinting at for the last 2 days. I’m not a fan of that pochette, so I’m not tempted but I am VERY curious about what else is in the box. It is annoying to shell out that much money and not receive anything until August.
