Does anyone watch that new show on Lifetime “Fashion Start Up” with the owner of BB as an investor on the show?

Sara Mason

I started in October. If I’m getting my second mascara and eyeliner, third face cream and fourth conditioner, it’s bye bye birchbox…

Paula Gianfortune

I watched one of the shows on demand and I really liked it. She is great and of course beautiful!
I think the show is going to do well, I set my DVR to record the remainder of the season. Anyone looking to start up a fashion or beauty line, product or shop could really learn a lot from the show.

Love the curated box sans the liner, but I’ll give it to a gf.

Do you think we will get that size of the Shisiedo that is in the video? It seems like there are times when you get a teeny sample instead of what was shown.

Heather

Its the size shown. I got the same one over the summer and it lasted several months. Its good stuff

I’m actually really excited for the sample choice, but I’m torn between the R+Co or the Sunday Rliey? I’ll probably pick the R+Co and hope the Sunday Riley is in the box too 😉 but happy enough if I just get some more R+Co. Love their products. Ended up purchasing a full size of the cleansing conditioner after sampling it.

Argh, enough with the eyeliner already!

Reply ButtonReply

Ann

Yep. Another Eyeko, Another Korane….blah blah blah lol

Ugh, finally! They’ve been teasing that Birchbox brand water-resistant mascara for over a year, I think.

Someone pick it & swap with me! 😀

Ever since the point system was changed to stop including sample reviews BB has gone downhill and fast. My last few boxes were all either repeats or things I wouldn’t use. Plus the sizes were so tiny they didn’t even take up 25% of the box. I at least was praying the December box would surprise me with great goodies but was sadly disappointed only loving my LOC stick which I chose to receive. The January box will make it exactly 1 year & 6 months since I began. I’ll do sample choice and if it tanks I’m cancelling…
The question is what to subscribe to instead… hmmm…

Ipsy bc you get full sizes of everything

Reply ButtonReply

Jenna

That’s not true about Ipsy – not everything is full size. I’ve gotten a lot of deluxe sample sizes, particularly for skin care and mascara.

I just recently canceled my Birchbox because the variety was really poor in comparison to a few years ago. I signed back up again with Ipsy in November – its ok so far, but the variety is better and the sample sizes are usually deluxe or travel size vs. a tiny sample.

Ash

Boxycharm! Full size samplespecially! You even get palettes! I get it & Birch box & ipsy. But I agree birchbox is going down hill I may also cancel after this box!

Reply ButtonReply

Jasmine

Boxycharm, of course! If you want the same price range, than Sephora play. =)

Reply ButtonReply

Emily

My first Boxycharm, November, was such an amazing value. I cancelled for December because it’s not my style, but I also dropped all of my Tiny Sample subs with the intent of rejoining when Boxy next catches my eye.

Well, any beauty box is better than Birchbox! I can tell you that much! Sephora Play has never evor let me down! When other boxes are disappointing, Play saves the entire month. That would be my suggestion. I don’t know if you’re willing to pay 5 extra bucks, but I’ve also been very pleased with Allure Beauty Box. This month I got SEVEN items in my box. And I always find a new LOVE discovery with one item each month.
And if you want to stay on the same price point, but don’t want to be on a wait list I would say Ipsy. Plus, they have a great point system. I actually JUST subscribed to Ipsy in exchange for cancelling Birchbox. I’m feeling very hopeful because no box can be worse than Birchbox!! I just can’t believe how much Birchbox sucks. The only good thing about them is how easy it is to gift a sub. I did that but now I feel bad because its the worst box.
The last three months I got repeats. Not one or two. Three repeats in each box. And I’m laughing my ass off because their spoiler shows another Klorane dry shampoo. I have 3 now. What a freaking joke. I promised myself to never get caught in that trap where you think next month has to be better. Its literally gambling and most people are on a losing streak.

Bor-ing! Four more months to go and I’ll be done forever with BB.

Reply ButtonReply

Cheryl

January is the final box in my one year, pre-paid subscription. I will not be renewing. As expected, my 3+ years history with Birchbox will go out with a whimper.

Reply ButtonReply

Victoria

Well…I like the eyeliner. 🙁 That’s sad!

Reply ButtonReply

Chrystal

Do we have to use our points before cancelling? Thinking I’m going to let them go and sign up for Look Fantastic instead 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

Bexyrae

I cancelled yesterday with 8 dollars in BB points. I assumed I could still use points after cancelling but a prompt came up when choosing Why You’re Cancelling. It said something like, “Make sure to spend your points before you go!”. So I shopped for a while before cancelling just got a little cute cheap thing, paid for shipping… Then I cancelled.
The next day I got an email saying my account is still active without subscription, and I am still able to earn points and spend them. So I think they just give you that prompt to prolong cancelling and make you stew on the decision for a while. Luckily, I was SO fed up with Birchbox that even after two hours of shopping with points I immediately hit the cancel button.
But I’m sure that they kinda tricked people with the chance you might lose your points. In my book, any company willing to be sneaky like that is probably not a good one. I DONT REGRET CANCELLING! I WISH I DID SOONER. And I was a customer for only three months. I’ve gotten repeats in EVERY. SINGLE. BOX. Not one repeat in one box, but two to three repeats each month. Are you kidding me? This spoiler yet again is showing me three products I’ve gotten already from BB.

DO NOT WAFFLE ON CANCELLING. CANCEL THE MINUTE YOU CONSIDER IT. A GOOD SUBSCRIPTION SHOULD NEVER MAKE YOU WONDER IF YOU SHOULD CANCEL!!!! Its a freaking gamble with this box, I’m gambling my money away with them with not one payout. Complete crap.

Ragan

No, you keep your points, although be aware they will expire, so you would want to use them soon, anyway.

Reply ButtonReply

Julie E

No your points cam be used within 6 months I believe and you don’t have to have an active subscription.

Reply ButtonReply

Crunchycloth

I can’t believe they are still trotting out all of these repeats🙄

I know that Sunday Riley Good Genes gets a lot of love, but it irritated my skin like nothing else. I used the deluxe sample a few months ago, and when I used it the first time, the “tingle” was more of a “hey, am I on fire?” sensation, and after three days, my skin was patchy, red, and flaking in weird places, like my chin and sides of my nose. It was stupid of me to continue to use it even after the initial burning sensation, but my skin isn’t usually sensitive and I’ve used lactic acid exfoliators before many times with no problem. Anyway, YMMV, and some people swear by it, but I just wanted to share my experience – if your skin is at all sensitive, you may want to think twice about picking this one.

My Birchbox sub ended in November, and I have no FOMO at all about these January spoilers. I like the Shiseido cleansing oil well enough, but otherwise none of the items in the curated box or sample choice are doing anything for me. I’m glad some folks are happy with the choices though.

Ragan

That Sunday Riley stuff was bad news for me, too, in exactly the same way.

Reply ButtonReply

Laura

The sweater in the video is really distracting. And not in a good way.

Reply ButtonReply

lisa

I am going to cancel BB too, but unsure what to replace it with. Thoughts???

Reply ButtonReply

Ann

Sephora has my vote.

Reply ButtonReply

Carrie

I second the sephora suggestion..or Allure

Reply ButtonReply

Jenna

Depends on what you want – I like the wide selection Sephora offers. In the time I subscribed to the Allure box, it was very skin care heavy. I just recently resubscribed to Ipsy, but I’m thinking about cancelling. I’ve gotten 2 liquid liners in the past three months, its already getting repetitive.

I think the curated box looks great with the exception of the dry shampoo. I’ve had the Eyeko liner before but I like it and need a new one so Id be happy to have it. And a brow product, cleanser AND eye pads? Awesomeness.

Reply ButtonReply

Michelle

Nothing there to make me want to subscribe. Think I am also done with Allure. Nothing exciting.

Reply ButtonReply

Lindsay

just an FYI that Sunday Riley sample is very small- you will probably get two uses out of it max.

Reply ButtonReply

BrookeRob

Repeat, repeat, repeat. I canceled today after receiving my December box yesterday. More perfume and eyeliner. 3 usable tiny samples are not worth $10. I’m happy with my decision after seeing these spoilers. I will take the $10 a month and put it toward my favorite full-size products.

Reply ButtonReply

Ashleigh

I can’t even count how many times I have received the eyeko liquid liner between my Ipsy and Birchbox in one form or another. 10+ and I have liquid liner.

Reply ButtonReply

Samantha

Why would they have a promo for adding the same exact eyeliner that’s already in the curated box? That wasn’t well thought out for drawing in new subscribers or bringing back old ones. I think the curated box actually looks decent, and the Sunday Riley interests me, but I don’t think it’s enough to make me resubscribe. Maybe if the promo was for something else, I would have considered it. Who is making these decisions for Birchbox? They should consider what their customers perceive.

Reply ButtonReply

Sara

Is that curated box a joke? I know most of those are staples…I mean, I do like that liner, but I’ve gotten 8 of them in the last few months..and the same Kloraine dry shampoo? Uggh…..

Reply ButtonReply

Amber

I got that eyebrow gel in my box this month. There’s hardly any product in it. It only covers the tip of the brush. I’m going to go with the Shampoo. I’m always looking for a good clarifying shampoo and I use these little samples for travel or camping.

Reply ButtonReply

Lenya

I guess I’m the weirdo who is really excited for this month – I’m going to have a hard time choosing between the Sunday Riley sample and the curated box! My girlfriend and I go through dry shampoo as if it were precious life sustaining oxygen, and I have wanted to try the shiseido cleansing oil. I also love collagen eye pads, need more brow gel, and liquid eyeliner is the only type of liner I use… So it’s basically the perfect box for me.

Reply ButtonReply

Theresa

Im def getting the curated. Dry shampoo and the cleansing oil are definitely exciting options. The other stuff isnt so bad either. I’m just so sick of getting horrible moisturizers and non-dry shampoos that the curated seems the only way I’ll be happy next month.

Reply ButtonReply

Jenna

Just cancelled this month. I was so sick of the endless samples of Marcelle, random lotions and hair oils, and uninteresting skincare. If I did get a color cosmetic, it was always something I would never wear. I updated my profile and reviewed samples religiously, but it was no help. It’s just been BORING. It’s sad, BB was my first sample box love.

Reply ButtonReply

Emm

Does birchbox even have personalized boxes anymore or is it all either “curated” vs “which super tiny product so I want a single use out of his month?”

Does the sample choice option usually live up to expectations?

The Shiseido cleansing oil is the main thing that really looks tempting from the curated box and the teeny tiny cleanser is the only tempting from the sample choice box but the horror stories are off putting.

I’m very new to birchbox. I just got a year subscription for Christmas so I guess I better strap in for the long haul.

Reply ButtonReply

Bb

Same. Canceled this month too. Not worth it. Same things all the time. Theme is just the box. They rotate the same samples all the time.

Reply ButtonReply

TK

I’m on monthly sub now. How do I cancel?? Too many repeats and nothing exciting. Maybe it’s because I’ve been with them for 3 years. There are so many other subs with more to offer!!!

Reply ButtonReply

Annie S.

I changed to a monthly subscription as well and I’ll probably cancel as soon as I find a better option. I love getting beauty products in the mail but this service seems to have run its course.

Reply ButtonReply

Jenna

Go into the Account Settings tab for your Birchbox profile. You should see a “Cancel Subscription” option under Women’s Subscription. I canceled earlier this month, and I got an email pretty quickly afterward confirming the cancellation. I also deleted my saved payment method.
