9 Fair Trade + Charity Subscription Box Gifts that Give Back

This post may contain referral/affiliate links. Read the full disclosure.

Best Fair Trade & Charitable Subscription Boxes

Updated for 2017!

We all know that subscription boxes are the best kind of ‘gift that keeps on giving’. 😉 But many of our favorite boxes not only give a monthly gift to the recipient, they also give back through charity donations, fair trade production policies, and more. What could be a better gift than a great subscription box that also supports a great cause?

Editor’s Note: Lots of boxes support charities, many more than we can fit here! These are some of our top picks and those that have information about their charity programs easily available online.

CAUSEBOX, for the socially-conscious consumer

causebox-fall-2016-002How they give back: CAUSEBOX is a quarterly subscription box that features brands and items dedicated to doing good all over the world. Many featured brands donate a portion of proceeds to charities and/or may employ local artisans, use ethically-sourced goods, and more.

“In each box, you will receive 5-8 of our favorite seasonal lifestyle products from different brands that are focused on ethical and sustainable production, donate a percent of profits to charity, or aim to inspire and empower others.”

Price: $54.95/quarter with free shipping (discounted price for annual subscribers)

How to give as a gift: You can purchase either quarterly (paid each quarter) or annually (paid upfront) and have it shipped to the recipient; just be sure to select “This is a gift” when checking out.

GlobeIn Artisan Box, for the global style guru in your life

How they give back: From GlobeIn: “We empower remarkable artisans in remote areas with the tools to build sustainable businesses. Providing connection and guidance, we help our partners feel stronger, more confident and in control of their lives through the expansion of their craft. As servant leaders, we improve the lives of our artisans so they can take great care of themselves, their families and their communities.”

The woven baskets included with each month of the Artisan Box are their own beautiful (and reusable) gift packaging, for starters! The items are usually well-curated and focus on the home, and occasionally accessories — both categories we often reach to for gifting during the holidays.

Price: The monthly cost for the 3-month gift is $48/month (includes shipping), or $144. Discounted price for longer length subscriptions.

How to give as a gift: GlobeIn has a gift purchase option. Choose a 3, 6, or 12 month Artisan Club subscription, or buy individual products from the shop.

Markybox, For the family who already has memberships to the local museums

markybox_marbling

How they give back: Markybox raises money for free family programs at museums, and is working to fund art teachers across the US so they can have the materials they need to provide a great arts education.

Getting messy and making stuff is fun! Strictly speaking, Markybox is an artist- and educator-designed DIY box designed for families and kids. The projects are still pretty fun for adults, though, and each Markybox includes enough supplies to do each project twice – so it’s fun for a mini “girls night in” as well as sharing with the kiddos.

Price: $30/month

How to give as a gift: Purchase a Markybox gift card, which can be redeemed for a subscription.
