Birchbox Man Review - December 2013

Birchbox Man is a monthly grooming and lifestyle subscription box. My husband has been subscribing for over a year now, and while I may get more excited about some boxes than he does, we both agree it's a great subscription!

(I also love the festive Birchbox packaging this month!)

Each box comes with a card detailing what each item is and how to use it!

Birchbox Man Review - December 2013

English Laundry Arrogant Shower Gel - Full Size! Value $16

La Fresh Travel Lite Shoe Shine Wipes (2) - Value $1.50

Usually all Birchbox Man products are deluxe sample sized, so I was pleasantly surprised to see a full size shower gel in this box! (The La Fresh wipes are a bonus item this month).

Dr. Brandt Microdemabrasion - .25 oz Value $9.75

H.I.M-istry Vitamin C Moisturizing Balm - 1 oz Value $3.75

Supersmile Ultimate Lip Treatment - 1.3 g Value $6.40

I may or may not end up taking all of these items! I think they're all gender-neutral, and I love the fresh scent of the Himistry balm!

The Knottery Wool Flannel Bow Tie - Value $32

I believe there were a few different lifestyle items you could get this month: a hat, a watch, boot laces, socks, boxers or a bow tie. This bow tie is really well made, and the material choice is very modern, but my husband has no use for a bow tie, so I'll be giving this to someone who has a few more formal occasions to attend!

This box also included a Birchbox-branded digimate sticker. (It sticks to the back of your phone, and you can remove it and use the other side to clean your phone screen).

This was a smart way to promote their new iPhone app - and if you haven't taken advantage of the offer yet, use coupon code MOBILE20 to save 20% off your first in-app purchase!

Verdict: We paid $20 for this box and received about $70 worth of products. Even though the bowtie will need to be gifted, I'm still happy with the value of this box! What did you think of the December Birchbox Man box?

So I was thinking about subscribing to Birch Box Men; and came across your blog on a google search. Looking back several months and looking at your review and the comments, seems like the boxes you get are above and beyond what most people get pretty consistently. Could this be because they know you write a blog, and know that you refer people to use their product through your page? If my boxes were to end up being like yours, I would be thrilled with this subscription, sounds like generally people are disappointed though.

I want these reviews to be helpful (and not misleading) so I actually make sure that my Birchbox account is not associated with the blog. (It’s through a personal email account). I think we’ve gotten some great boxes and some OK boxes, and sometimes when I see what other people got I think their box is better 🙂

One thing that may be a factor is the fact that we’ve been subscribing for so long, and that in my husband’s profile we’ve requested no shaving items. (Since we’ve been subscribers for over a year and they won’t send you repeat items, I’m guessing that means we’re more likely to get new products.)
Also, since we’ve requested no shaving products, that may have limited the amount of products they can send us, and maybe made it more likely for us to get the more desirable products?

Hope that helps!

That watch sounds terrible; I received a slim wool card wallet, which I enjoyed.

My hubby got shave gel, a very sticky chapstick, hairspray, shoe wipers, exfoliator and the crazy fake watch thing. What were they thinking??? The watch/bracelet thing is the stupidest product ever! I’ve always thought that the men’s box was great, way better than the women’s box, but this one was a disappointment! The watch thing felt like a joke:(

We have been really disappointed in our men’s boxes lately. Every month I say this is the last one. We keep editing the profile and still haven’t got a box we love. The samples all tend to be very tiny and repetitive. I definitely don’t feel like I am getting any value with them. I would have been happy with the fake watch, at least I would have felt like I got my moneys worth because it would have been a perfect gift for my brother. Do you think that changing the profile frequently may be the cause or maybe that there is a delay from when you change it to when they actually make the changes? Any insight or tips on the best profile options?

I loved my box. I got face moisturizer, body wash, after shave cream, a candle, hair cream, and the cap. I liked the cap but my head is way to big for any cap of well, any size. If anyone would like to trade for a bow tie. i have much more use for that. If anyone is interested just send me an e-mail at [email protected]

I received the silicone fake watch bracelet that is pretty terrible. It’s the worst item I’ve received in a birch box yet. The rest of the items were good, shaving cream, lip balm, shoe shine wipes, face stuff, and hair stuff are at least usable.

I didn’t realize the watch was fake! That’s such a weird item!

It’s meant to be. It’s called fake roley based on fake Rolex watches. It’s just a silicone bracelet. Very unusual and seemed to disappoint several others as well that received it as well.

My husband got the shoewipes, shower gel, lip stuff, hat, cologne, Proraso shave cream and app thing! Good box for him! He will use everything!

I was thinking about buying my husband that hat – is it nice quality?

Elaine

The hat’s nice. It’s a regular knit type hat.

But we’ll probably cancel the subscription this month. Too many shave products for his liking.
