BoxyCharm Review - Makeup Subscription Box - August 2013

A few months ago, I posted about BoxyCharm  - a new beauty subscription box that looked like the drugstore-brand version of GlossyBox. They reached out to me and offered to send me this box to review. BoxyCharm has been on my list of boxes to try, so I jumped at the chance!

FYI - the products that are included in BoxyCharm may not always be from the current season:

Dear Boxycharm subscribers and followers,

We would like to give you a little history about our company. We purchase our products from third party vendors, not directly from the brands. Some items may not be available in stores as they may have been from last season or with different packaging. We intentionally started this company with a new approach than other subscription boxes; to provide full size items from well known and popular brands. We hand select every item from our warehouse to assure that you receive popular and loved items. if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to email us at [email protected]

Warm regards,
Boxycharm Management

(I pulled that from their facebook page).

BoxyCharm Review - Makeup Subscription Box - August 2013

Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Lumizing Face Primer - Value $9.99

L'Oreal Color Riche Nail Lingerie - Value $8.95

These nail stickers are a very interesting idea - they are mostly transparent with a golden "netting." I like that you can use these over bare nails or mix it up and try them over different colors.

L'Oreal Colour Riche Project Runway Lip in Temptress Kiss - Value $8.95

L'Oreal Nail Polish in Pink Shells - Value $5.99

Revlon Diamond Lust Eye Shadow in Starry Pink - Value $4.99

L'Oreal Project Runway Super Blendable Blush in The Mystic's Blush - Value $7.54

This eyeshadow is the most beautiful pale-sparkly pink color. It also gets great reviews at Ulta.

Verdict: This box has a value of over $45 - more than double the $21 cost, I'm impressed! I also like that everything in the box was full-sized! When I was looking up prices for the items, I would say at least half of the makeup is still available for sale at stores like Ulta and drugstore.com, however some were definitely discontinued and only available on amazon, ebay, etc. This is not to say the makeup is expired, it just may be difficult to find more of a product if you fall in love with it! If you are looking for a high-value drugstore makeup subscription box, and are OK with a few products being discontinued, I definitely recommend BoxyCharm. What do you think of this subscription?

That’s a good point and idea about jumpstarting a makeup collection or if you’re in need of an update, something fresh, new, etc. A couple months of 4 full size products that are known popular and loved makeup items would be worth it — as long as you’re someone that is into wearing drugstore makeup. (I am!)

While I’m far from a grammar nazi..I bet you mean the contiguous U.S. Alaska (my home state) is part of the continental U.S.

Side note: I always refuse to buy from companies that won’t ship to Alaska as they have no reason. It doesn’t cost more (especially if done flate rate), and requires no extra paperwork. If it DID manage to cost extra I don’t see why they won’t do it if I’m willing to pay the shipping! ARGHHHHH

I totally have that eyeshadow and it is BEAUTIFUL! I love to wear it over a darker smokey eye color to give it a bit of shimmer. Interesting box. Definitely a good value, but I always tossle with drugstore subbies :/

I’ve been torn on this one. I do like some drugstore products and it looks good, but I do wish it was closer to the $15 price range than the $21. I got rid fo Glossybox largely because of the price, so I can’t quite justify another at that price point at this time. I know the value is good! But my budget cries…

Let us know how you like the nail wraps please. I just did an unboxing on Scratch. And unfortunately I’m going to cancel. The wraps are already chipping. I’m trying to find some wraps that are a durable as the nail dress from Kiss. And Kiss is cheap!! I don’t get it.

I signed up for this when you first posted about it and stuck with it for two months, but then I decided I was spending too much money between this, tipsy, and Birchbox, and only using half the products, so it wasn’t worth it to me. However, I wanted to jumpstart my makeup supply, and it did!
