A Wintry Makeup Tutorial Featuring Allure Beauty Box’s December Items!

I've been getting way more into makeup this year than ever before, and I think working at MSA explains why. There are so many beauty boxes to choose from to deliver cult faves and new brands to discover each month. While I consider myself more of a skincare girl, I have always loved playing around with makeup (even if I'm not going anywhere). There are so many fun ways to use it and the best uses aren't always what they were originally intended for.

Allure Beauty Box is filled with deluxe and full-size makeup and skincare that runs $23/month with free shipping. While I haven't gotten the chance to review it, Megan (who does) is kind enough to share some of her spoils with me to fuel my lipstick and highlighter habit. This month, we thought we'd shine a spotlight on the Anastasia Moonchild palette since it has such beautiful icy tones to create a cool holiday look this winter. I enlisted my friend Marissa who is a pro at makeup and hair to come help out and had her use a mix of makeup I already own (mostly from sub boxes) and items that came in December's Allure Beauty Box!

Our Soft Wintry Holiday Makeup How-To feat. Allure Beauty Box - December 2019

Start with your favorite skincare routine that moisturizes your dry winter skin! Our Allure Beauty Box came with First Aid Beauty's Hello Fab Coconut Skin Smoothie Priming Moisturizer which is a great choice before makeup.

Before we got into the detailed eye look, I asked her to use makeup I already had like Dr. Jart+'s Cicapair Color Correcting Treatment which I recently fell in love with from this Sephora Favorites Kit. She also used my beloved Dr. Jart+ (now discontinued) Dis-A-Pore BB Cream as well since I don't love wearing a heavy foundation. To fill in my brows, I had her use my Anatasia Beverly Hills Brow Powder Duo (in Soft Brown) using my Sephora Classic Double Ended Filler & Spoolie #208 brush and then she used the Anatasia Beverly Hills Clear Brow Gel that came in December's Allure Beauty Box as well to make sure they stayed in place (my brows can be quite wily).

We wanted to highlight this amazing wintry Moonchild Glow Kit from Anatasia Beverly Hills that came in this month's Allure Beauty Box to create a holiday-ready look! Even though it's sort of a highlighter palette, I've learned that you can use it for more than just that (like eyeshadow and blush). The first thing Marissa did was use "Lucky Clover" as a base color. She started in the inner corners and worked her way about 3/4 of the way across my lids.

Next, she went into "Blue Moon" to add an ombre effect on the outer corners of my lids, blended into the center to meet the first shade.

Then, Marissa switched to a thin liner brush and gently wet it to deepen the "Purple Horseshoe" shade and used it as a liner.

Using the "Star" shade, she then used a small brush to line the bottom of my eyes in the soft silvery hue to make them pop.

Next, Marissa used the chilly "Blue Ice" color just under my brows to highlight.

Finally, she used the sixth color, "Pink Heart" as a highlighter for my upper cheekbones, using my recently acquired fan brush from tarte. (She also used the Milk Makeup Lip + Cheek in Werk I got in my Milk Makeup Mystery Bag on my cheeks.)

Since just returning from her most recent trip to Thailand, Marissa was feeling inspired by Asian-style ombre lips and used the Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick in 'Trust Issues' (subscribers will receive this color OR 'Bohemian') from the December Allure Beauty Box to create this more subdued lip look. To achieve this, simply dap a small amount into the center of your lips and lightly use your fingers to tap it out to the corners, creating a soft ombre effect. You can always build on it if you want more color.

Marne getting Anatasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick in 'Trust Issues' applied to lips - solid look

If you're into a bolder look though, this is how it looks full-strength.

I was excited about the December box and the bonus gift bag offered in November so much so that I created a 2nd account because my yearly will finish with January 2020’s box. So I actually got two December boxes PLUS a large variety of bonus gift items for signing up for year on my new account. I know the 160 I paid was covered between the December box and another plus the bonuses I received. Great deal for me and I so appreciate the review. I am very fair and love light looks and am a highlight addict so using them for eyes is something I already do. Now I am glad to see it looks great on you so I dont feel so silly when I do it myself. I like an understanded make up look. I’m mature so light and minimalist is best for me and what I prefer. Happy holidays friends!!

This is fab and you look like a gorgeous ice queen! Thank you for sharing and please make more content like this! I am not particularly makeup skilled (I just do the same old boring natural look every day) but I’m looking to learn and this palette is gorgeous so I’m excited to try to recreate this look. I can’t wait for mine to arrive!

Marne, you are soooo beautiful!!! I love this type of content and hope you do more for us! And I have never even considered using my highlighters as eyeshadows. 🤔

DeeCee

Beautiful!

I would like to let you know that I just purchased this box on amazon so I can attempt to follow this tutorial at home. I hope Allure sees this because you made a sale for them!!!

Marne, I actually love the make up look with straight glass type hair. Looks so sleek and polished for a business meeting.

I love the full hair look too but that would be for a girls night out or date night. 😊

Awesome post, Marne! I also use the 50,000 highlighters I have received in sub boxes as eyeshadow, so I really appreciate the tutorial!

I received my box via Amazon yesterday morning. I played with the Anastasia pallete before a girls night out (Christmas shopping) and could not believe the positive compliments I received! I used a bronzer as a overall eyeshadow
color (up to the brows). and used the “Pink heart” as a eyelid wash with a tight line of dark brown eyeliner and lots of mascara on the lashes. After I smudged the lower lash line with the eyeliner and toped with dampened “pink heart”.
It was so beautiful! Two friends subscribed today just for the pallete!
I wasn’t sure I’d like it but I LOVE the pallete! Oh, and the bohemian color lipstick looks beautiful and totally wearable lightly blended into a lip balm. I just put lip balm on first and put two small dots of bohemian and blended in. It turned out to be a long lasting light plum tint! Sorry this is so long, but I’m thrilled with this box! Marne, your hair looks gorgeous and you’re rockin’ the pallete too! So many different looks and uses for this pallete! If you’re subscribed, give it a chance!

Uhh I don’t even subscribe to allure but I have the older Nicole Anastasia highlight palette and I’m trying this as a liner. Thanks lol

Gorgeous! Impressive how much volume that spray gave your hair! I have fine hair, but a lot of it. I can’t wait to see if I can achieve similar results

To be fair, she also used a straightening iron to “curl” it as well!

Haha but I’m talking about those roots! I can usually only get my roots up that high if I use Lush ‘Dirty’ styling creme. I can give myself a lion’s mane with that stuff lol

Liked this post and rock that hair!

just tip with the dark liquid lipsticks I use a dark brown lip liner to add outer dimension and go above my lip line because I have a smaller upper lip.
With the liquid lipsticks I have found I can make the big lips I have always wanted.
You don’t need it.. just a tip for those that don’t wear dark color lip because it shows how little their lips are.
Gwen stafani always puts lipstick higher then her real lips. Easier to hide real lip line with a darker shade.
Ordered this box for $7 off amazon 😁👍

FYI if you order from Amazon, you’re getting the FAB Face Moisturiser and Christophe Robin Scrub instead of the primer and hair spray 🙂

Marne what a great review! I was trying to figure out who to gift this to, lol and now I can’t wait to play with it!!! I’m a skincare, lipstick, and eyeshadow junkie. I have a crapton of highlighters I can send you, lol, and now I think I know what to do with a couple of them.
I would love to see more reviews like this… a different twist.
