Some of my favorite memories as a kid involved creating unique worlds through dress-up and imaginative play. I was often envious of my friends that had older brothers and sisters, whose closets were a wonderland of possibilities. Even now, when I get to babysit my friend's kids, they naturally gravitate to my closet, and even want Wyatt (my pup) to dress up too.

kidpik is one of those companies and concepts that I know my mom and other parents would have loved to have back in the day. kidpik is a subscription-based service that brings the convenience of at-home shopping right to your door. Each box includes 3 coordinated outfits (7 pieces total) for boys and girls with sizes for toddlers, youth, and tweens.

Each piece of clothing totals about $14, and you have a week to decide what you'd like to keep and send back. If you decide you love it all, you get 30% off your box, and there is always a prepaid shipping label and bag for easy returns.

With Halloween just around the corner, I started thinking about how much fun a subscription box-like kidpix or purchasing pieces from their online shop could be to expand opportunities for make-believe.

I rounded up my top five picks for clothing through the kidpik shop that kids can have fun with now, whether it's through an imaginative play session or daily dress.

Inspire Your Inner Rock & Roller

Foil Star Thermal Tee - $18.50

Maybe I watched too much JEM as a kid, but I was always ready to start a band. Not only can your kid and their friends act out their own rock and roll dreams, but this thermal tee is perfect for fall's transitional weather.

Studded Metalic Hightop Sneaker - $36.50

Nothing quite says rockstar-like statement sneakers like these. Hightops like this help accent any school day or weekend outfit as well.

Boom Box Oversized Tee - $16.50

I had to include this tee because who doesn't want to channel their inner Beastie Boy? This is also a perfect oversized piece to wear over a thermal or under a jacket. Also, who am I kidding? I'd like this in my size too, please.

Ranch Living

I always wanted to live on a farm (truthfully, I still do), and even though it's been a long time since my days of watching Hey Dude on Nickelodeon, kids still seem to enjoy pretending to be veterinarians and even wrangling Wyatt like a pony from time to time.

Flannel Check Shirt - $22.50

This flannel shirt can go from herding cattle out on the range to a birthday party on the weekend.  Flannel is a great layering piece as the winter months are approaching and is a print that never goes out of style.

Tie-Dye Raglan Mock Neck - $16.50

This is another great layering piece for playing animal pretend on your llama farm or on your way to a sleepover (pizza party!)

Benefits of the Subscription and Online Shop

As mentioned above, this kind of subscription service is a huge time and cost savings for parents who constantly juggle schedules and want to forgo a potentially stressful time at a mall. You simply complete an interactive style profile, and your child's box is curated and delivered to you. Of course, you have that one-week option to determine what you want to keep.

The kidpik online shop enables parents to select specifically the essentials they want (or fun creative pieces), whichever the case may be.

Final Verdict

Depending on the parent and child's needs, the subscription option can work well if you are looking to bulk up your child's wardrobe quickly. It can also be used as a fun option for your child to experiment with looks and styles they may not normally go for. Whether the clothing goes toward imaginative play, an upcoming theme party, or a typical school day, kidpik gives a fun interactive way for kids to get creative with their clothes.

Things to Note:

Do I have to be a kidpik member to purchase form the kidpik shop?

No, the kidpik shop site is available for everyone to purchase.

Can I add items from kidpik shop to my next kidpik box order?

Not at this time. Shop orders and box orders are processed separately.

Hi Kate! I’m the same as you, I don’t have kids, but I feel like so many parents, and kids would benefit from this. If this had existed in the 80s, my mom would have LOVED not to have to take me to the mall and hear me complain for hours in Limited Too, haha. Thanks for reading! ♡
