KiwiCo Doodle Crate Painted Canvas Pouches Review

Our project this month was to make two painted pouches using a glue resist method. The booklet provided instructions about how to add a glue design, along with some great ideas for inspiration, and instructions for painting and finishing up our project. There were plenty of helpful tips!

They provided two canvas pouches in different sizes for us along with a mess mat and inserts for each pouch to keep the paint from spreading through to the other side.

They also provided a bottle of glue with a wooden spacer, two gel pens, a paintbrush, a set of six paints, some sticks for spreading glue, and two wooden zipper pulls with string to attach them.

They provided a little practice scrap of canvas for us to work on. After adding the spacer to the glue which allowed for the perfect amount of glue to be released, I then tested out a design. I used the wooden stick to even it out a bit by spreading the glue lines.

Liv Gluing

Once we had both practiced and had an idea for our designs, we added our inserts and then began gluing our designs onto our pouches.

Then it was time to set those aside and let them dry before we could complete the next step.

The next day we were ready to add some paint to our designs before setting them aside to dry again. We also took a minute to add some paint to our wooden zipper pulls. If you swipe through you can see my painted bag.

Soaking Bags

The next day when our paint was dry, we placed the pouches in some hot water to try and soak off the glue. Then I used the sprayer on my faucet to get the rest of the glue off once it was loosened from the soak.

I placed our bags in the sun to dry and they were ready in no time. I was really pleased with how they turned out! I also love that the pouches have a nice wide bottom so they actually can stand up.

The last step was to add some designs to our painted zipper pulls with the pens and then tie them onto the bags. Such a cute final touch!

Verdict: I thought that our painted pouches turned out pretty great thanks to the thorough instructions provided by Doodle Crate! This project was fairly easy to complete although it definitely took a steady hand for the glue, but otherwise, it was pretty open-ended and allowed for a lot of creative freedom. I struggled a bit at first trying to come up with a design, but I found some inspiration through the various ideas included in our booklet. I liked that we got to make two pouches and that they even included little pulls for us to add to the zippers. They included everything we needed other than water and my daughter and I had fun designing our pouches! I'd say this was a great project!

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!
