Lillypost May 2021 Review

Lillypost always sends us a set of Finnley the Fox stickers along with a little note that introduces their coloring contest for the month. Kids can draw directly on the box and incorporate Finnley into the monthly theme, then share it on social media for a chance to win a prize. This month we learned all about dinosaurs!

Hug Machine by Scott Campbell - Retail Value $7.99

This is a book that we actually already own and it's a fun read so I'm glad we were able to gift a copy to my sister-in-law and her kids! Our main character is a Hug Machine and he goes all around town hugging everyone and everything he can find. His hugs have the power to cheer up those who are sad, and he can even manage a hug for those who have been found to be un-huggable like the spiky porcupine. It's one of those cute, silly stories that we love to read and it's perfect as a bedtime read because it's just the right length!

Willow the Armadillo by Marilou Reeder - Retail Value $16.99 (found here for $14.89)

Willow is an adorable and determined armadillo who just wants to be featured as the hero in a picture book. While all of her friends manage to become heroes, no one seems to take her seriously. No matter how hard she tries whether it's changing her image or trying to prove her strength, she gets rejected at every turn. While she never gets featured as a hero in one of the books she was auditioning for, she does end up getting her hero moment and her perseverance pays off in the end! This was a cute book that is pretty original. It has some good little lessons that are told quite simply and in an engaging way that would be a great starting point for some discussions about what makes a hero and how to overcome obstacles!

Sheep Dog and Sheep Sheep: Baaad Hair Day by Eric Barclay - Retail Value $17.99

This is our second adventure with Sheep Dog and Sheep Sheep and it's even cuter than the first! Sheep has some fabulous hair that she styles every which way, but soon her hair is getting too long. Sheep Dog tries to talk her into getting it sheared, but she wants nothing to do with that so she tries to figure out another solution to her problem, but none of them seem to work. Another cute book with some really adorable characters and my son thought it was hilarious that Sheep referred to the ducks as water chickens!

Verdict: We always look forward to seeing what Lillypost will send our way each month and this month was a pretty good selection! While we already had Hug Machine it's one that we really enjoy so I was happy to be able to share a copy with someone else. Our favorite book this month was definitely Sheep Dog and Sheep Sheep with all of the silliness and cute characters! The value is always great, too with our books retailing $42.97 when we only paid $24.90 ($19.95 + $4.95 shipping) for this box!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you will receive the June box, although it is possible you may get these books in a future box!

Value Breakdown: At $24.90 ($19.95 per month + $4.95 shipping) for this box, here’s what you are paying approximately per item:

  • Hug Machine: $4.63
  • Willow the Armadillo: $9.85
  • Sheep Dog and Sheep Sheep: $10.42

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!
