February 2021 BeautyFIX Review

This month's box was missing the handy booklet it usually arrives with that lists all of the products inside. Let's unpack this box!

Juice Beauty Bamboo Pore Refining Mask, .5 fl oz. - Retail Value $9.00 (buy 2 fl oz. for $36.00)

I usually find that pore refining masks don't typically work well with my skin. This one in particular is noted for oily skin, large pores, and acne-prone skin. My skin is far from oily so I usually find that this type of mask makes my skin even drier. While this did leave me feeling super tight and a little drier than I have been, I liked it a lot more than other pore refining masks I've used in the past. This mask is meant to smooth, refine, and detox your skin while also helping with maskne, with the activated bamboo charcoal, bentonite, and kaolin clay working to draw out excess oils and impurities. Some of the key ingredients include salicylic acid, vitamin E, shea butter, panthenol, malic acid, and charcoal. While this wasn't my favorite product this month, I was happy to see that it didn't aggravate my dry skin and it worked to clear a few breakouts that were starting on my chin.

Sachajuan Scalp Shampoo, 1 fl oz. - Retail Value $3.45 (buy 8.4 fl oz. for $29.00)

This shampoo is made with salicylic acid to loosen dry skin and wheat protein to strengthen hair follicles. It targets dandruff and keeps your scalp clean and flake-free without drying out your hair; it is also safe to use on color-treated hair. The site recommends using a small amount on wet hair, allow one to two minutes to work the shampoo into your hair, and then rinse thoroughly. I have a lot of thick, curly hair, but I also don't wash it every day so when I do I need a shampoo that is really going to get into it to get every inch of my hair clean. This shampoo didn't lather enough to get from my root to my ends to get it fully clean. However, I used it on my scalp first and then did a second quick wash with my regular shampoo and absolutely loved the results! I found that my scalp felt less itchy, my roots didn't get greasy as quickly as they normally do, and my roots just looked healthier with more lift and shine. I don't think this is something that I would use at every wash, but I could see myself using this for a deeper clean maybe every other week.

SkinCeuticals Phyto Plus, 4 ml - Estimated Value $11.60 (buy 30 mL for $87.00)

I am very lucky that I don't seem to have any dark spots on my face yet. I'm sure one more summer in the sun and a 34th birthday will bring them out though. My husband, however, has a few spots near his cheekbones on both sides of his face that really bother him. We have actually been using a product for a while now on them with no signs of improvement so he was really excited to give this brand a try! They recommend using one to two drops on discolored areas twice a day and that this is best for hyperpigmentation, sunburn, sun damage, acne, free radical damage, fine lines and wrinkles, and acne scars. It is made with arbutin and kojic acid to promote a brighter, more even skin tone by targeting dark spots. My husband just started using this product so I can't speak to the long-term results just yet, but we are hoping that this will improve those little spots for him.

Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare Alpha Beta Universal Daily Peel, 3 pack - Estimated Value $8.80 (buy a 30 pack for $88.00)

Once I saw the word 'peel' I got a little nervous to try this product and I spent a lot of time researching and reading about it before diving into using it. I am so glad that I used this peel pack! I can see and feel the results in the overall smoothness of my skin. The key ingredients include mandelic acid, malic acid, vitamin E, retinol, dimethicone, green tea, salicylic acid, antioxidants, copper peptide, vitamin C, alpha-hydroxy acids, glycolic acid, and lactic acid. The peel is a two-step process that is super simple to use and it focuses on reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, reducing hyperpigmentation, and shrinking pore size. I did feel some burning when I first applied both pads and then I felt some tingling and burning for about 30 minutes after, nothing that I couldn't handle though. I had some slight redness but that was totally gone in the morning and so was the tingling! I was left with the softest skin that I have felt in a long time. My makeup went on like a dream and the results are truly lasting. I am so glad that I got over the fear that I had when I saw the word 'peel' because this has brought my skin back to life!

How To Use:

Alpha Beta Refining Step 1: Swipe pad over face, from forehead to neck in semi-circular strokes. Apply evenly until pad feels dry. Wait 2 minutes. Follow with
Neutralizing System Step 2: Swipe pad over face with the same technique as Step 1. Apply until pad feels dry. Allow skin to dry, then apply Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare moisturizer.

IMAGE Skincare I MASK Firming Transformation Mask, 2 oz. - Retail Value $55.00

I am loving that this mask came with an application brush! It really made this feel like I was at a spa having a professional treatment. One of the ingredients in this mask that I was not familiar with is a rare pepper berry extract, which is derived from a Meditteranean plant that defends against the effects of daily stressors, leaving your skin with a healthy glow. Other key ingredients include hyaluronic acid and jojoba to restore hydration and plump your skin naturally. I applied a thin layer of this mask and left it on for 15 minutes, and then massaged it into my skin with wet fingertips for one minute before rinsing. My skin burned a little when the mask was on and I had some redness once I rinsed it off, but that all went away very quickly. My skin feels so smooth and I noticed less redness and irritation on some breakouts that I have been struggling with this week on my chin. I also love that this mask is safe to use 3 to 5 times a week. Plus, getting it in the full-size bottle means I will have this for a while to enjoy!

Dermstore Collection Plush Spa Headband - Retail Value $12.00 (on sale here for $9.60)

I have a lot of spa headbands, but this one is by far my favorite! It doesn't have a velcro closure so it was really easy to put on and get into place. It also fit tightly so it kept all of my hair back to ensure nothing was getting in the way of my mask. It is made with a soft terrycloth so it is easy to wash after using but it also feels soft on my skin and hair. This is the perfect item to get in a box that comes with so many face masks!

Verdict: This month's BeautyFIX felt really special! I am new to this box, but I am loving the quality that it brings. Plus, I get to try totally new-to-me brands and products that I would normally never know I needed. Between this box and last month, the featured products have truly saved my skin. This month featured plenty of face masks to try and even gave us an amazing headband that is probably one of the best that I have seen. The pore refining mask wasn't my favorite, only because it doesn't work well with my dry skin, leaving it feeling tight and dry, but it did reduce some breakouts that were starting. The Phyto is not something that I need just yet, but it came at the right time to pass along to my husband who has been trying to reduce some dark spots on his face. I am so excited to see if this product will work for him over time. The peel made me nervous at first but I did my research and was able to see some incredible results from this product. I can't wait to use it again and see the continued benefits of fewer dry spots and just an overall smoother complexion. The shampoo provides that extra deep clean that I should probably be using on my scalp anyway, it is just a super fresh and clean product that I know I can safely use on my color-treated hair without stripping it of its moisture. The full-size firming mask is another winner, adding some intense hydration while smoothing my skin, and I totally loved that it came with an applicator.

This month's box has a value of $99.85 which is great for an under-$25 box. Last month came with a lot of sample-size products, but this month redeemed itself in my opinion. The products were all really high-quality items that focused on repairing and hydrating your skin and hair. For me, this box is all about bringing quality brands and products directly to you that you might not find at your local store, but once you use them you are going to wonder how you ever lived without them. That is at least how I am feeling!

Taryn,
I don’t know if you are still reading the comments, but burning isn’t good. The peel has alcohol as its second ingredient, and the second pad has baking soda to neutralize ingredients, which is also not good for your skin.
The mask also has alcohol in it. The burning is actually damaging your skin, and although you might not see it’s effects now, you will in time.
Don’t feel like you have to take one for the team. If it burns, take it off immediately.

I skipped this one, I’m really missing the old beautyfix!

I found the headband to be the worst item in the box. Maybe I have a super large head, but it kept sliding off constantly. It fits my 10 year old kid just fine though. Aside from the Skinceutils, this was not my favorite box.

I like those peel pads a lot. Dr. Dennis Gross also makes a liquid version that is amazing, but expensive 🙁

What an excellent review! If I had read this last month, I absolutely would have ordered on this review along. I’m bummed that it’s too late to buy it.

Funny I am focusing in on that headband, but I could have swore I thought it was one with a Velcro closure, which is what I am looking for. Without it, the headbands always seem too tight and I feel like I’m damaging my hair.

Looks like some fun products to try! I’m really into the scalp scrubs/shampoos lately. I only use a tiny bit mixed with a normal shampoo and the results are great. Granted I have been super lazy washing my hair lately (thank heavens for dry shampoo!)

Yes, I totally see that with the velcro headbands vs. not. I have only been using this one when my hair is dirty so I won’t ruin my curls at all because it is slightly tighter. I try to not wash my hair too often either!

I went to a spa on Saturday and got a facial done. They only used products from Image Skincare. My face was glowing afterwards. When I first saw their set up, I was like why does this brand look so familiar…? I have a few other masks I need to finish up but, I am definitely looking forward to try this.
