Scent Box January 2021 Review

This month, I received Scent Box’s “Scent of the Month.”

The information card included within the box usually includes some information about the men’s scent of the month on one side and the women’s on the other side.

In case I have not mentioned it in the past, you receive a new atomizer every month. The fragrance is printed on a sticker on the bottom, and the atomizers tend to be different colors each month, so you can keep them sorted.

On to the fragrance:

Trini Girl by Nicki Minaj – Estimated Value $4.76 (buy 100 mL for $59.50, found here for $29.90)

This one is only available from fragrance discount sites and marketplaces, so I think it has been discontinued. It was first introduced in 2016 so it hasn’t been out that long but I have noticed that celebrity-branded perfumes don’t tend to stick around for a long time.

Anyway, this is very fruity. Top notes include sorbet, litchi, quince, and blood orange and, of these, it is the blood orange I notice most when I wear this. But the sorbet adds some sweetness, which I like as well. Middle notes include dew drop, green leaves, floral notes, and apple blossom but this is not overly floral, nor is it super green on me, which is honestly for the best as I am not really into floral or green fragrances (with some exceptions). Base notes include coconut and white musk, which I think work pretty well together. The coconut gives this an overall tropical sort of feel in combination with the fruits (even though these particular fruits aren’t especially tropical).

I wasn’t sure just by looking at the information card whether I would like this or not, though I’ll admit I do have a tendency to enjoy a lot of celebrity-branded fragrances, even if I don’t know much about the celebrities, themselves. I was happy with this one and will reach for it when I want something fruity that isn’t grapefruit, which is a scent that dominates my collection of fruity scents.

This one only lasts a couple of hours before needing to be reapplied; I’d say longevity was on the shorter side (though far from the shortest I’ve ever experienced). Sillage, for me, was about average -- not too strong and not too weak.

Verdict: The estimated value of my fragrance this month is $4.76.  The value here was pretty low. That happens from time to time with the scent of the month with this subscription. I do like the fragrance, but at this time I would not recommend opting for the scent of the month with this Scent Box if you are looking to maximize value. Instead, research the fragrances and choose a queue based on your personal preferences (and you can always find the perfumes for sale somewhere else and do your own price calculations, as well) and you will make this subscription a much better deal. Don’t forget that you get a holder every month and free exchanges, which increases the value a little although doesn’t really make up for the overall low value this month.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes, all you have to do is choose this fragrance when you sign up.

Value Breakdown: This subscription is $14.95/monthly and this month, I received $4.76 worth of fragrance (but again, this is highly variable based on what scent you choose).

Absolutely not worth the money. I feel like I’ve been ripped off. The colognes smell more like rubbing alcohol. I have an actual bottle of Euphoria and 2 from scent box. There’s no comparison.
