Love With Food Deluxe January 2021 Box Review

The box usually comes with a generic card but there was no card this month. It was also somewhat late, although not as late as the December box.

There was a card with a wine offer, though:

On to the items:

Iwon Organics Protein Sticks, Nacho Cheese (1.5 oz) - Buy 8, 1.5 oz Bags for $19.92

So these do not look at all like the picture on the bag, either in terms of color or size. That said, they are actually pretty tasty. The protein is from green peas, navy beans, and brown rice, and they have real dairy ingredients for the cheese plus some spices to give them a little kick (though they are a tad salty). This was a completely new item for me and honestly all the flavors look good and I wouldn’t mind receiving these again, perhaps one of the other flavors.

Incredipuffs, Cheesy Cheddar (0.74 oz) - $3.99

I have had these in an apple pie flavor and a sriracha flavor but this is the first time I’ve ever seen these cheese flavored ones (again with the real dairy!). These are starchy puffs that are not particularly high in protein (unlike the previous ones) and they do have a nice crunch and a lightly cheesy flavor that isn’t as salty as the previous item.

Boulder Canyon Classic Sea Salt Potato Chips (1 oz) – Buy 12, 6.5 oz Bags for $41.88

We may have had these before, I’m not sure. It is hard for me to remember the differences between brands of plain, kettle-cooked potato chips. I would say these are fairly average for kettle-cooked chips; if you like others, you will probably like these. They were delicious to me but that's because I don’t let myself buy potato chips too often, so when I do get them (like in a food subscription box), I am thrilled. I think this might be old packaging because I can’t find anything similar on their website, but I assume these are either the ones cooked in avocado oil or the ones cooked in olive oil.

From the Ground Up Cauliflower Stalks (0.75 oz) – Buy 6, 4 oz Bags for $23.99

These are hollow tubes and my first thought was how much I would’ve loved putting spray cheese in them as a kid. Anyway, they do have a cruciferous vegetable undertaste so they are not for everyone – my husband tried one and refused to eat any more of them, but I finished my half. They are mostly starch but they are nicely crunchy. This was a new item for me.

Bare Chocolate Coconut Chips (1.4 oz) – Buy 6, 2.8 oz Bags for $27.99

I have a hard time telling brands of coconut chips apart, as well -- I find them to be all quite similar. However, this is not a problem since I like both chocolate and coconut. These are interesting because with many chocolate snacks, I find the chocolate flavor to be dominant, but the coconut was really competing here. I ate these with a spoon because the pieces are kind of small.

From the Ground Up Butternut Squash Tortilla Chips (1 oz) – Buy 6, 4.5 oz Bags for $23.99

I’m pretty sure this is a repeat item but I do like it. The squash flavor is there so they are just a touch sweet, but they are also salty, and I actually think these would work pretty well anywhere you would use a corn chip. They managed to survive mailing mostly intact, which is also impressive. I am pretty sure these are also sold at Whole Foods if you just want one bag to try.

Appleways Blueberry Simply Wholesome Oat Bar (1.2 oz) - Buy 25 for $29.99

I think this brand largely markets to food service providers (cafeterias and the like), but there was a reasonably sized package for sale at the site I linked to (as in, something a few people or a family could finish in a timely manner). I like that this has whole grains but it also has 8 grams of added sugars, so it’s more like a cookie than anything else. The flavor is kind of a generic berry with oats also being prominent. I don’t remember if we’ve had this before or not.

The Good Bean Crunchy Chickpeas, Sea Salt (0.75 oz) – Buy 4, 18 oz Bags for $31.99

We did have these last month. I think they strike a pretty good balance for crunchy chickpeas – not too starchy and not too hard. These do come in a number of other flavors and it might be nice to get some flavor variety (I find sea salt to be rather plain but think these would be great with a bit of spice).

Jojo’s Peanut Butter Delight (1.2 oz) – Buy 7 Bars for $13.99

I was unfamiliar with this item or brand before this box. It pretty much tasted like a dark chocolate bar with peanuts, although apparently it has added protein from hemp seeds as well. The protein doesn’t really affect the texture and while the nutrition is closer to “candy bar” than “protein bar” I did enjoy trying this quite a bit. The other flavors seem very interesting and I’d be interested in trying those as well.

Crunchsters, Sea Salt (1.3 oz) – Buy 6, 4 oz Bags for $24.99

We’ve had these in the barbecue flavor several times. They also come in a vegan “bacon” flavor and a balsamic flavor, neither of which I’ve tried. These are made from sprouted mung beans and the pieces are so tiny, you definitely want to either eat this with a spoon or directly from the bag. Nutritionally they are super high in fiber and protein and they have some minerals and potassium to balance out the sodium, which is relatively low for a packaged snack. I think these are a bit plain and that I prefer the flavored ones, but they are not bad.

Quest Snack Bar, Peanut Chocolate Crunch (1.52 oz) – Buy 12 Bars for $21.49

This is Quest’s answer to a KIND bar I guess, and is a product I was not previously aware of. This was really sweet and not in an artificial sweetener kind of way (it does have some erythritol and stevia), so I was surprised a t how low in sugar it is. It has some whey protein and milk protein so it is not vegan. Also I should definitely mention that it was not hard to bite into at all, despite all the nuts.

Country Archer Mini Beef Stick, Original (0.5 oz) – Buy 28 for $21.18

As you may know, I’m a vegetarian, so I’ve put this aside in my box to send to a family member once I’ve collected enough meat sticks. I get the popularity of these, what with the keto diet being so big right now. This is made from grass-fed beef raised with no hormones or antibiotics. I respect this brand for putting that right out on the front of the package because sometimes you have to hunt for that information. We have received this exact product before, and last month we received the full-sized version.

Cooper Street Blueberry Pomegranate Granola Cookie Bake (1 oz) - Buy 6 for $5.99

These kind of look like a hybrid between a cookie and a granola bar, but they’re far more cookie than granola bar. They have a nice, soft texture and a generic fruity flavor. They are dairy-free and nut-free but do contain honey, eggs, and wheat. We’ve seen other items from this brand in Love with Food (including this one, I think) but I’ve generally enjoyed them.

Barnana Peanut Butter Banana Bites (1.4 oz) - Buy 6, 3.5 oz Bags for $34.99

I sometimes buy this brand from Whole Foods, although I don’t think I’ve had these peanut butter ones before. (Now that I am shopping without my husband as we split duties to minimize COVID exposure, and I go to Whole Foods since I’m the one with the Amazon credit card, I buy a lot of snacks…) It’s not exactly like eating peanut butter because the coating had to be formulated like a candy, but it is a good flavor combination nonetheless.

Belgian Boys Chocolate Chip Mini Cookie Stash (1 oz) – Buy 20 Bags for $20.00

It seems very likely that we have had this item before, because this brand shows up all the time in Love with Food, but I feel like it’s been awhile. They take their standard butter cookies and add chocolate chips, although the chocolate chips are small and not so noticeable. These do have a satisfying crunch, though.

Everbar, Dark Chocolate (1.2 oz) - Buy 48 Bars for $60.00

This was a new item for me. These are wafer cookies with a chocolate coating and they are super high in sugar, which is probably why I enjoyed them so much. (I try not to eat much sugar so when I do get some, I usually love it.) This brand also makes some bars that seem less like candy and more like protein or seed bars so this is an interesting departure for them.

Brownie Brittle, Chocolate Chip (0.6 oz) - Buy 14 oz for $11.99

We had this same item last month; we’ve also received several other flavors in the past. The chocolate chip maybe isn’t so apparent in a chocolate-based snack. Eating this makes me think of chocolate crackers, which is not necessarily a bad idea. I’m more of a center brownie fan, but sometimes you just want a little chocolate fix without taking all the time and gathering all the ingredients to bake.

Verdict: There were 17 items in the January 2021 Love With Food Deluxe Box for an average value of about $1.17 per item. This was a way better month for Love with Food than December. Although there were some repeats, there were a ton of new items (two kinds of cheese puffs, cauliflower stalks, Jojo bar, Quest bar, Everbar, new flavors of Crunchsters and Barnana, etc.) and there were also 17 items which is a bit more than the past few months. There still aren’t any items in their snack shop, and their rewards pantry has slim pickings at the moment, so I hope they are able to get those fixed as well.
