Bombay & Cedar "Fresh" January 2021 Review

The box arrives with a booklet of information that lists the products and highlights some of the brands found within. January's theme was "Fresh.”

Comfort Essential Oil by Bombay & Cedar, 10 mL - Listed Value $16.00

This month's oil was another mystery item pulled from their proprietary essential oils. I received the Comfort Blend which is made with lavandin, peppermint, wintergreen, frankincense, marjoram, and Spanish rosemary. I have been using this in my upstairs diffuser and it totally fills my entire upstairs. My son even said that it smelled minty when he was walking up the stairs, so this is a powerful scent! I love the peppermint mixed with the fresh wintergreen, making it so bold and fresh.

EMU Sanitizer Spray, 2.2 fl oz. - Listed Value $6.99 (buy a pack of 3 here for $19.99)

I love receiving sanitizer sprays because they are great to use on surfaces. I've been using this on cart handles at the store, giving me that extra layer of clean comfort when I'm out. You can also use it on your hands! I am loving that it doesn't leave my hands feeling sticky and it has aloe and vitamin E that helps make my skin feel soft. The best part is that this smells like watermelon. My kids really love that it has a fruity scent to it instead of the usual hand sanitizer smell. This is a super handy item that I've been using so much already!

Bombay & Cedar Muscle Relief Essential Oil Roll-On, 0.33 fl oz. - Listed Value $19.00

I received a similar roll-on a few months ago, and I have to admit that I rarely use it. The roll-on was tricky to use in larger spots that needed relief like my back or shoulder. I found myself using it more on my feet as a great start to a massage or on my wrists. The blend combines powerful analgesic oils that work to mitigate pain and discomfort. Since I still have my last roll-on, I am going to pass this along to my mom who tends to have a lot of knee and foot pain.

Siren Snacks Protein Bites, 1.7 oz. - Retail Value $2.99

I have to say that I did not like these protein bites. From the bag, I was really excited to try these and even waited until my kids were napping to break them open, but I found that they had a really off-putting aftertaste. My husband, however, was obsessed with them and did not think they had a weird aftertaste. My daughter loved them as well so between the two of them they finished this bag off in two days! The bites are grain-free, dairy-free, soy-free, and gluten-free. They are also made with no artificial flavors, and even the rainbow sprinkles were made with rice flour. Each bite is on the smaller side compared to other protein bites I have tried, but they were a great grab-and-go snack that really fills you up!

Cougar Beauty 7 Day Teeth Whitening Treatment Kit - Listed Value $32.00

I love teeth whitening kits! When I was in high school and college my parents used to give us whitening kits in our stockings, but since I don't get a stocking anymore, I find these kits to be a real treat. The kit comes with 2 gel syringes and a charcoal-infused toothbrush. This gel formula apparently is less messy, but I can't say I found it any easier to use than other kits that I have tried. The gel works to remove plaque while whitening your teeth. I am not finished with this kit just yet so I can't speak to the final results, but so far I am enjoying using it and hope to see whiter teeth soon!

Big Bee, Little Bee Big ScrubBEE Multipurpose Silicone Scrubber - Retail Value $8.99

This is the cutest scrubber I have ever seen! You can use it on your face, hands, body, or even dishes. The scrubber is 100% silicone, free of BPA, Phthalates, PVC, and Lead. The handle is super comfortable and makes it easy to use. I also learned that the ScrubBEE was initially designed to help little ones learn to wash themselves, but it has evolved into a product for all ages. We are actually trying to get my son to do his showers on his own so I gifted this to him, he wasn't thrilled that it was pink but he likes having the independence of a solo shower. It is super easy to hold and use and the bristles are so soft, leaving your skin feeling exfoliated and clean without feeling harsh. You could have received this or reusable produce bags this month (I secretly wish I had gotten the reusable bags, but this is perfect for my son so I am happy).

MamaSuds Toilet Bombs Cleaning Tabs - Listed Value $13.00 (currently out of stock)

I love to clean. There is nothing that brings me more joy or calms me down so cleaning products are a really fun item for me to get. I was so excited to try these little tabs! They are honestly so awesome and have made toilet bowl cleaning so much easier. All you have to do is drop one tab into the toilet, let it fizz just like a bath bomb would, scrub the bowl, and then flush. You are left with a super clean bowl that smells amazing for at least a day. Each tab is made with sodium bicarbonate, non-GMO citric acid, water, essential oils of tea tree, organic peppermint, and lemon. This is hands down my favorite product of the month.

Knock Knock Stuff Yeah Four-Letter Puzzle - Retail Value $16.00

The presentation on this puzzle is so beautiful. The box is so bright and colorful, it honestly feels like a jewelry box. The colors in the puzzle continue from the box design, featuring deep blues, green, gold, and more. Each letter to complete the word 'yeah' is its own puzzle so there is a lot of work to do with this one. I finally admitted in a past review that I do not like puzzles. A lot of people use puzzles to calm themselves (theoretically the perfect activity during pandemic times), whereas puzzles make me feel really anxious. I knew that I wouldn't get much use out of this and it is a bit too big for my puzzle-loving son to work on right now. Since it was such a beautiful puzzle set, I decided to gift this to my fellow mommy friend and neighbor who truly loves puzzles. She was really appreciative of it and is loving having a winter project.

Verdict: This month's Bombay & Cedar Lifestyle Box had a theme of "Fresh" looking to bring you products to create a refreshing enhancement to your New Year. I can't say that the curation really felt complete for me, but I really enjoyed each of the products featured this month. My favorite item was the toilet bombs because they work so well, are so fun to use, and they leave my bathroom smelling amazing. The puzzle wasn't for me, but I was able to gift it to a friend that really loved receiving such a special piece. The sanitizer and scrubber are being used a ton already and the scrubber is allowing my son to learn how to take a shower on his own which helps me a ton. The estimated retail value is $114.97, well above the $44.95 monthly cost including free shipping. While this month's products didn't blow me out of the water, I was able to either use everything or gift them to a friend. I am excited to see what February will bring!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Your next box should be for February.

Value Breakdown: This box costs $44.95 + free shipping, which means that each of the 8 items in the box has an average cost of $5.61.

This was actually quite a good box! I got some cookie thing instead of those gross looking dough balls. This box does a pretty good job of finding things that I don’t see in other boxes, even if I don’t often have a need for many of the products (I’m not a essential oil person so I have about 90 unopened bottles).

i Agree, they do find some off kilter things that spark my interest but I would never recommend their mystery boxes. . Just dont

I have a question about the protein bites. You mention that the rainbow sprinkles are made from rice flour. Where are the sprinkles? I see them on the picture on the front of the bag but the actual bite shown is a completely different color and shape (and sans sprinkles) from what is pictured coming out of the bag even though it appears to be the same bag. I figured maybe it was just a case of the actual product not looking like what is advertised (which honestly is true of most food photos) but then you mentioned the sprinkles. Am I just missing them? Thanks!

They are on the inside! You get a bit of a sprinkle-like crunch in every few bites. Hope that helps!

This box was OK for me. My favorite was the toilet bombs as well. Cleaning products are always a hit with me because they will definitely get used and I welcome anything that makes cleaning more fun.
I put the tooth whitening kit up on eBay along with two other whitening kits I’ve received from Bombay and Cedar. I already have a whitening product that I like, so I let that one go.
Aside from that, I’ll use everything from this month’s box.

I was happy with my box. I agree on the taste of the protein bites – yuck. I received lemon and did not like them at all. I’m a little skeptical of the teeth whitener. Something about 2 unsealed syringes in a black ziploc baggie is making me waver.
I love the puzzle. I don’t really have a large space to put together a large puzzle but with 4 individual puzzles I was able to set up and move the smaller puzzles easily.
I haven’t tried the toilet bombs yet but note that it says to immediately put in an airtight container.

I got an awesome (but pricey) felt puzzle board that comes in a zippable carry case and has containers to keep sorted piles. I didn’t use it for puzzles, but papers stuck in place to the felt. I zip it up and put it in the closet. Reviewers said they put it under the bed.
