The Beauty Box by Bombay & Cedar November 2020 Review

The box comes with a booklet of information that lists out the products and highlights some of the brands.

Cleansing Wipes by Evio Beauty, 30 wipes - Retail Value $18.00

I don't love using cleansing wipes daily only because my skin is naturally so dry that I have found wipes like these to dry me out even more. I have been using these a bit though because my daughter loves playing with makeup. This means I usually need a quick makeup remover to either get makeup off a wall or my face that was made up in a funky design. These wipes are made with Cannabis Sativa seed oil which has natural fatty acids and antioxidants that help to protect your skin. A few other ingredients include Aqua/Water/Eau, Glycerin, Decyl Glucoside, Cannabis Sativa Seed Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Citric Acid, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Disodium EDTA, Niacinamide, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Extract, and Alcohol. Each wipe is thick and has a lot of cleansing foam on it so you can get a deep clean just from one cloth.

CBD Face Cream by Neurogan, 1 oz. - Retail Value $39.95

Before I get into this product, I want to note that my information card had this listed as being by Evolue, but it was actually made by Neurogan. No biggie! They recommend using this cream in the morning on clean skin before applying makeup to revitalize and nourish your skin and to achieve gentle hydration. This does come in varying strength levels, I received the High-Potency 1000MG which is double the dose of the extra strength. This is also the THC-Free Broad-Spectrum which means it features all of hemp’s naturally occurring compounds and beneficial cannabinoids without the THC. I'm so intrigued by CBD products like this and was really excited to give this cream a try after my research. Unfortunately, I could not get past the smell of it. It had a really strong hemp scent, almost like a rope or hemp necklace that I used to wear when I was younger. It smelled processed instead of a fresh clean scent that I like in my facial products. I used this cream a few times and liked how my skin felt after using it, but ultimately, I just could not get past the smell. My husband is going to give it a try next to see if he likes it better!

AirSponge by Baseblue Cosmetics - Retail Value $6.00

I absolutely love these makeup blender sponges and was in desperate need of a new one. These sponges allow you to build with your foundation and blend easily for a flawless application. One thing I thought was interesting is that this sponge swells in size when wet which helps to not waste product when using a primer or liquid foundation. A simple product that is a necessity for me so I am always happy to receive something like this!

CCC Cream by CLE Cosmetics, 1 fl oz. - Retail Value $31.00 (currently out of stock)

This cream is made with 8.88% Titanium Dioxide, 7% Octinoxate, 3% Octisalate, and the CCC stands for color, control, and change. It is a primer, foundation, and sunscreen all in one little bottle. It comes out like a cream with these little beads throughout that release when you apply it to your skin to hydrate and tints your skin to provide a smooth and even coverage. I received the light to medium coverage which seemed to work well for me. I think this is a product that I will be using a lot in the summer when I have a sunkissed glow and when I don't need as much foundation. It will be the perfect way to get smooth coverage and sun protection without putting in a lot of effort. I can just apply and go about my day at the park or the pool with my kids while still feeling like I have some coverage.

Facial Turmeric Bar Soap by Soprano Labs, 4.25 oz. - Retail Value $12.00

I am not a fan of bar soap, I love how they smell and I love how pretty they look in a fancy dish, but I don't enjoy using them. My husband, however, loves bar soap especially when they have a bold scent. So I was really excited to pass this along to him. This bar is made in small batches with Organic Vegetable Oils, Kaolin Clay, Rose Hip, and Turmeric Extracts. The soap lathers really well leaving your skin feeling clean but it moisturizes thanks to the vegetable oils so you don't have that harsh dry feeling after using. You can use this on your body, face, and hands as well which is nice. My husband loved the bold turmeric smell which really wakes your senses early in the morning.

Lip-spo Liner by Evio Beauty - Retail Value $13.50

I am obsessed with this liner! Unlike most lip pencils that look similar to this one, the liner is super creamy and glides on almost like a lipstick. You could use it as a liner or even use it to fully fill in your lips. The liner is made with Vitamin E and coconut oil to help protect and moisturize your skin. Even without using a balm first, this liner just glides right on my lips. It is the perfect neutral that matches with so many of my lipsticks. This is going to be a staple for me for a while!

Verdict: The Beauty Box by Bombay & Cedar has a really unique mix of products. Sometimes it is the simple things that really make a box great, and that is exactly how I felt this month. The AirSponge and lip liner was the shining products for me! The liner is just beyond amazing, gliding on like a lipstick, it is going to match some of my favorite lip shades. The AirSponge is the perfect tool for a foundation loving girl like me, and I was already looking to order a new one before this little one arrived. The cleansing wipes aren't something that I like to use daily, but I have been using them for quick cleanups for when my 2-year-old and I play with my makeup. The CBD cream worked really well with my skin, but ultimately I could not get past the scent. I was really happy to pass the cream and the turmeric bar of soap onto my husband who I know is really going to enjoy using both products. I calculated a retail value of around $120.45, and at $31.95 a month for this box is an incredible deal! This box is always great at bringing a variety of products. You can get some basics that you always need mixed with products from new brands that you might not normally purchase for yourself. Beauty products are all about the discovery process, which is why I love this box so much, it makes trying new products fun and exciting!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? December beauty boxes have all shipped so your next box would be January, but I would reach out to customer service first to confirm.

Value Breakdown: This box costs $31.95 with free shipping and I calculated a total value of $120.45, which means you are paying approximately the following per item:

  • Wipes: $4.77
  • CBD Face Cream: $10.59
  • AirSponge: $1.59
  • CCC Cream: $8.22
  • Bar Soap: $3.18
  • Lip Liner: $3.58

Taryn, that lip liner is a great shade for you!

I miss this box. T___T

This looks like it would have been a good one for me, too, with lots of skincare, and not so much emphasis on the gimmicky beauty tools they sometimes send.

I’m interested in what variants might have been sent! Please share if you got something different than Taryn!

I had never heard of Basic Blue Cosmetics before but I loved the the Airsponge came in packaging that looks like the kind of thing you put air plants in, I thought that was so clever. I also like how much the sponge expands once wet. I’m curious, when you’ve used sponges in the past have you not wet them before? I was under the impression that sponges are supposed to be used wet(damp actually) unless they specifically say they can be used wet or dry. Even then, I’ve always found that when they are dry i end up with a lot of patches and uneven product on my face. Actually, I learned a cool new trick for dry skin, if you put a little face oil on the sponge or tap the sponge onto your face when you’ve put oil on, that little bit of oil really helps impart that awesome glow so many people are loving right now. I’ve been doing that especially when I blend my concealer in and I’ve loved the results. Anyway, sorry such a long message, I love the look of this box, I’m definitely going to keep my eye on it! Thanks!

This was my first box and it was a huge disappointment. I never use face wipes, I wash my face properly with water and a cleanser. I don’t use makeup sponges. I can’t get past the smell of the soap: its smell kills flies in mid-air. The eyeliner is very basic, not even a twist-up. Doesn’t stay put well. I dislike creams in jars, I think it’s very unsanitary. Besides, the formula deteriorates quickly due to exposure to light and air. The only item I would use is the CC cream.
So, after shipping and conversion, this box is a total flop for me.
I wanted to try it. I did. No more.
