Gramma in a Box "Donuts and Cupcakes" January 2021 Review

We received this card in our box with a coupon code to send a Valentine box to someone.

Each month we receive a card that highlights the theme and lists the contents of our box, which includes two sheets of wax paper that serve as placemats for easy cleanup. The three projects all arrive on individual recipe cards that list the ingredients on the back. The directions are easy to follow and any important information is highlighted in red which is always helpful. This month's theme is "Donuts and Cupcakes."

Project #1: Donut Pops

Our first project was to make some donut pops using lollipop sticks, melted chocolate, fruit loops, and some crispy rice cereal.

The kids got set up and put out their lollipop sticks while I melted our chocolate. On our recipe card, it lists the crispy rice cereal but I could not find anywhere that it said to actually add them. When I saw that our next project was using the leftover chocolate and it involved marshmallows, I made an executive decision to just dump the rice cereal into our chocolate and mix it in.

I gave them a dollop of the mixture on their lollipop sticks and then they used the fruit loops to make flowers. My son decided to put some sprinkles in the center to make pollen which turned out to be pretty cute!

These were so good! The crispy rice with the chocolate and all of the fruity flavors from the fruit loops worked so well together! I think we all agreed it was the winning candy treat this month!

Project #2: Cupcake Clouds

Our next project was to make some cupcake clouds with the leftover melted chocolate from project 1, some mini marshmallows, and confetti sprinkles. The kids set out their cupcake liners while I added the marshmallows to our leftover chocolate and stirred.

These were so simple that I didn't even get a chance to take any photos. After I placed the dollop in their liners all they had to do was add a few sprinkles. These are cute and that bit of crispy rice cereal in it gave them just the right amount of crunch! My daughter took that last photo and I thought it was a great closeup of these yummy treats. Just enough chocolate to hold it all together!

Project #3: Donut and Cupcake Cookies

While we always enjoy the candy treats, decorating the cookies is always our favorite!

There were 8 cute cookies for us to decorate.

They really love this chance to get creative! They melted my mommy heart when they started complimenting each other on their great cookie designs.

Our icing to cookie ratio wasn't very well-balanced this month, but they still turned out okay! I always enjoy them best the next day when the icing has set. The cookies aren't too sweet, and they always taste fresh!

Here is our finished plate of treats. We had 6 flower pops, 6 clouds, and 8 colorful cookies.

Enjoying our treats!

Cleaning up is as simple as recycling the plastic inside of the box it all came in. Then all I have to do is a wipe of the kids and the table, followed by a quick sweep of the floor. There aren't a ton of dirty dishes or ingredients to put away, and I can move on to whatever's next!

Verdict: This month's fun Donut and Cupcake-themed Gramma in a Box was met with a ton of enthusiasm in our house! These treats were cute and creative, and of course, decorating cookies in the shape of donuts and cupcakes was especially thrilling! I love how easy it is to just open this box and go. We get to spend some quality family time together with some organized activities, enjoy a few treats, and there is minimal planning or clean up on my part. This box is always a winner to us!

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!

I was confused by how to use the rice crispies too! I read it like five times- and by then my son had eaten the container so it was a moot point. Everything was good though!

Haha so he was just trying to help eliminate the confusion! I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who had to read it several times. Glad everything still turned out well! 🙂
