SprezzaBox "Esquire - Infinity" November 2020 Review

Each month SprezzaBox allows subscribers to choose their box from several different options. You will receive an email prompting you to select your box and then you'll be taken to a page with photos and information about each of the boxes. This is a great way to ensure you get exactly what you want or need and if you forget to pick your box, don't worry because they will simply have a stylist choose one for you. Since some collections are made of previous inventory, you will occasionally have a few products overlap, but usually, this is a sample item.

Perry Ellis Gray Knitted Tie - Retail Value $25.00

I've always wanted a knitted tie. I love the texture and feel of them. I also prefer thinner ties. So this one was a win for me. The tie measures 2-3/4 inches wide and has a 65% polyester, 35% rayon mix. I usually rely on my wife to tell me if an outfit is working or not, but I'm going out on my own to guess this tie doesn't work great with my current suit. I still really like the tie and I think it does OK. I'll either save it in my every-growing tie collection or pass it on to one of my brothers. Can I just say it felt nice to get dressed up for these photos? It has been a spell since I've put on a suit.

Gordon Rush 2-Tone Gray and Camel Sock - Retail Value $12.00

These formal 2-tone gray and camel color-block socks are 75% cotton, 21% polyester, 2% rubber, and 2% spandex. They come up 3/4 the way to my knee. I'm 5'9". I have to admit that I did not initially like them very much, but then I realized they match the pocket square and that changed my mind. They have an art deco feel to them, like a design you'd see on the walls or floor of an old building in a city's downtown. Very Gatsby-like.

Bennkai Black and Beige Dopp Kit - Retail Value $25.00

This black and tan waterproof canvas toiletry bag is made of 100% polyester and measures 9 x 6 x 3 inches. It has a large inner compartment and a smaller side pocket. There is a black handle on one side and a little tab on the other to give you something to hold onto when you're zippering it shut. I'm a big fan of Dopp kits – good or bad – or maybe I just like little bags. This one is a good size for guys like me that just want to bring everything. I also value items that I can beat up a bit and not have to worry about it. I personally don't think this is very stylish, in terms of this subscription. This box is well focused on making subscribers more dapper, but this kit feels more rough and ready. There is room for both I suppose but I noticed BennKai has another Dopp kit that seems more stylish. I don't mind this bag, but think it doesn't fit the feel of the subscription.

Grey and Camel Houndstooth Pocket Square - Retail Value $18.00

I have never used a pocket square and this one was a nice introduction to them. SpezzaBox calls the colors grey and camel, like the socks. It measures 12 x 12 inches and is made of 80% polyester, 20% cotton. I liked that it came with instructions on how to use it. I thought it went very well with my suit and will be put to use the first chance I get. I will be keeping the instructions nearby as well.

The Wolf Project Charcoal Face Mask - Retail Value $4.00

This hydrating, bamboo charcoal face mask has anti-aging power from natural ingredients, according to the website. I recently shaved my Election Beard™, so I gave this a go. If you don't know me, I'll tell you now I am not a face mask kind of guy. But things like this I do for MSA and readers like you. I did like the mask and it really did make my face feel more hydrated and smooth, but when I do things like this I wonder if it feels great because I don't normally pamper myself this way. Regardless, I liked it. Guys, if you're reading this, try one out.

The box typically includes a few gift cards or promos. This month there are some for wine and 30 days of training online. I don't mind throw-in offers, but I personally don't like to consider them part of the overall value. It's more of an advertisement to me. However, they could obviously be valuable if they are something you'd use.

Verdict: This was my first SprezzaBox review and I was quite pleased. The tie is nice, but my favorite items have to be the pocket square and, by proxy, the socks. I love that they complement one another and go well with a suit I already own. Although I have several Dopp bags, I'll never turn down another one. I did like this Dopp kit, just not for this subscription. Overall, I was happy with the subscription. I really am looking forward to it. The only "issue" I see moving forward with this subscription is most of the items are for when I dress up, which barely happens – especially these days. Having said that, when the opportunity arises, I will have an array of stylish items to accent my outfits. My wife rejoices.

There is something else I am compelled to mention. I have a bit of an aversion to BennKai since they are a wholesaler. It would be one thing if it was a business selling other companies' items in bulk, but these are just generic items that BennKai puts its name on and I’m not sure what value the “BennKai” name really brings. Maybe this is the way things work, but it cheapens the overall experience for me when I see it in a box. I received a couple of not so great BennKai items in my Culture Carton and I now associate BennKai with cheapness. Maybe there is a place for wholesalers like BennKai, but I don't think it is in subscriptions that promote culture, fashion, or style. If you agree or disagree, please comment below, and let's talk it out.

Since this was my introduction to SprezzaBox, I wasn't aware I could select my box. I'm going to look into this for next month. All the boxes seem great, but getting the chance to choose one that piques your interests is a great option. If I'm being honest, I don't think I would have picked this particular box, but, despite my dislike of BennKai, I really did enjoy it.

To Wrap Up:

Can I still get this box if I sign up today? No, you would likely receive next month's box, although it's possible that this could be a future "Pick Your Own Box" option.

Value Breakdown: This box costs $30 ($28 +$2 shipping) which means that each of the five items in the box has an average cost of $6. I'm not including the gift cards. The total retail value of these box clocks in at $84, which is a nice value. It's nearly three times the cost. I think this subscription would be a great value to a man who dresses up often for work, church, or other professional settings.

I actually like the tie with the suit, since visually there is a sort of textural match that gives it interest.

My husband rarely wears ties though, which is why I only got this sub for a few months, mostly to break apart for gifts to various relatives. I like that they let you pick your box now, though, that’s really handy.

Thank you. Maybe I’ll keep the tie around. I rarely wear ties as well, but I do love to wear them. Thanks for commenting.

Great review! I completely agree with you about BennKai. I liked at their website and they also do work with Fabfitfun, which might explain why so many of their items also look and feel like cheap knockoffs. It seems so odd that these subscriptions that promote themselves as “curated” or “specially selected” actually do very little of it themselves and farm that work out to a whole separate company. It just seems disingenuous.

I agree entirely. Disingenuous is the perfect word. Thanks for commenting.

Did you model the tie? Can’t tell if those pictures are you or not.

Also, it is customary for those who receive sheet masks in their subs to model them on for us 😂 jk

Appreciate the nice, thorough review. Thanks!

That is me. Photos by my wife. Maybe I’ll model a mask some time I feel cute. I’ll let you know when that is. Thanks for commenting.
