Lillypost November 2020 Review

Lillypost always sends us a set of Finnley the Fox stickers along with a little note that introduces their coloring contest for the month. Kids can draw directly on the box and incorporate Finnley into the monthly theme, then share it on social media for a chance to win a prize. This month’s theme is "Fairy Tales."

A Sloth Called Bob by Stephanie Moss - Retail Value $9.99 (found here for $9.39)

What a fun board book this month! While it is a board book, it still felt appropriate for my older children as well since this story is a bit longer. Bob the sloth is a superhero who gets in a bit of trouble himself which means he has to reveal who he really is. This rhyming book is full of colorful illustrations and each page has so much to look at that it will engage any child! My 4-year-old has been making up his own stories as he looks at the pictures in this one, which is just as fun. I love the way it inspired him to use his imagination.

Rocket Says Look Up! by Nathan Bryon - Retail Value $17.99 (found here for $16.99)

This book is appealing right from the front cover with all of the beautiful colors and the sprinkling of stars. Rocket loves all things space and looks through her telescope nightly. She wants to be an astronaut when she grows up just like Mae Jemison, whom they give a few brief facts on. This sharing of information was continued throughout the story with some "Did you know?" facts that Rocket happily shares with everyone she meets. I love that they incorporated some facts into the story so seamlessly so kids can learn organically, and Rocket's excitement about her own knowledge is such a great example for kids. All she wants is for her brother to look up from his phone (another great lesson for kids!) and she does all she can to encourage him. Luckily this story has a happy ending! I thought the illustrations were great and the characters were diverse and I love how contagious Rocket's excitement was!

Tough Cookie: A Christmas Story by Edward Hemingway - Retail Value $17.99 (found here for $13.59)

My kids love when we get a seasonal book and this one is a fun twist on the gingerbread man, although this time we have a tough sugar cookie. Poor sugar cookie man isn't very fast, he doesn't taste good enough to eat, and he just can't seem to do anything right. He feels like a failure as a cookie, until one day he realizes that he's actually supposed to be an ornament. This book was cute and silly with just enough ridiculousness to please my kids and give them a giggle. Plus they included some recipes at the back for some delicious cookies and for some cookie ornaments!

Verdict: My kids were very excited about this month's Lillypost books and I thought it was such a great mix of stories for us to enjoy. We loved the fun seasonal book, and I thought that Rocket's story provided a nice balance with a more serious tone. These were fun, unique books that we enjoyed. The total retail value of our books came to $45.97 ($39.97 with sale prices) which is great for this $24.90 ($19.95 + $4.95 shipping) box!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you will receive the December box, although it is possible you may get these books in a future box!

Value Breakdown: At $24.90 ($19.95 a month + $4.95 shipping) for this box, here’s what you are paying approximately per item:

  • A Sloth Called Bob: $5.42
  • Rocket Says Look Up!: $9.74

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!
