VetPet Box (Multi-Cat Version) November 2020 Review

Every month, VetPet Box sends toys, supplies, and wellness items:

You always get a pamphlet with information on a health topic. This month's topic is related to Halloween safety (this box came a little before Halloween, I just didn't get a chance to take pictures with my kitties in time):

On to the items:

ClueJay Cat Stool Test (Level 2) - Retail Value $34.99

Well, this is something new. You can do cat stool tests at home. I am not sure what my vet thinks of this, but I can think of some instances where it would be useful. For example, if your cat has soft stools but is really anxious leaving the house, you could do a check to see if anything is wrong and if the results come back negative, maybe avoid a vet visit. Or, if you are nervous about being out in the time of COVID-19, this may be a way to avoid some public exposure. I am not sure whether my vet would accept this result or would insist on additional testing and/or a visit before providing a prescription (there is a state law in Georgia that vets can't prescribe medications to animals they haven't seen within the last 12 months) but I can definitely see more items like this being introduced in the future. This tests for roundworms, hookworms, tapeworms, whipworms, coccidia, and giardia and you do have to pay a $65 lab fee when you send it off. (For what it's worth, even indoor cats can have worms. Mr. Kitty had tapeworms a couple of months before he passed away and we have no idea where they came from.)

From the Field 'Bae the Hemp' Body Pillow - Retail Value $11.99

Madison loves From the Field toys and this was no exception. He did his standard "high on catnip, rolling on the floor now" thing and yes, there are pictures below. This has catnip, silvervine, and valerian, but it isn't as stinky as some of the other valerian cat toys I've had in the past.

My Three Cats & Co. 'Yeowww Fresh Pumpkin' Cat Nip Toy - Retail Value $9.49

These toys are always instant hits with my crew, but also have lasting value. I will find cats playing with them months later (they make other shapes like bananas and apples, as well as smaller things like crayons and small fish). They are stuffed with only catnip and they can stand up to a lot of abuse. Monkey licked this until it was wet and my husband took it away from him because he wouldn't stop licking it at night when we were trying to sleep.

Fat Cat Classic Springy Worms Cat Toy x 2 - Retail Value $8.98 ($4.49 each)

Monkey is also a fan of Fat Cat toys (this is another brand he licks until it is wet...). These have springs in them and, as you may have guessed from the name and shape, you (or your cats) can stretch them out. There is a video at Chewy if you want to see them in motion. These do have a little catnip as well, and no sharp edges despite the spring.

Multipet Monster Cat Nip Toy - Retail Value $1.99

I think this is adorable, and I have just found out these come in five different styles. They have feathers but the feathers are well attached. The outer texture is felt, so it's a little different from the pumpkin, springy worms, or body pillow. My cats appreciate different textures, especially in their senior years (Sneaky is about 12, Madison a little over 13, and Monkey is probably 14 but we really have no idea, I found him on New Year's Eve 2007). Anyway, Madison was mostly interested in the feathers here but that's not really surprising.

Fruitable Wildly Natural Tuna Flavor Cat Treats (2.5 oz) - Retail Value $3.99

These are crunchy treats that are very small, which makes them an excellent choice for Sneaky, who is probably my heaviest cat even though she should be the lightest of the three. (She steals food.) I can give her these treats and she thinks she's getting a lot, but there are fewer calories. These are made in the US and come in resealable bags for freshness.

Fruitable Wildly Natural Chicken Flavor Cat Treats (2.5 oz) - Retail Value $3.99

Because this is the multi-cat box, we got a second bag of treats (same brand, different flavor). My cats don't demonstrate a strong preference for one flavor or the other, they like both. Neither flavor is stinky, either. (That's actually an important consideration with cat treats...)

Gratuitous cat photos:

(Sneaky is the calico, Madison is black, and Monkey is tan and white.)

Verdict: I calculated a total value of about $75.42 for the November VetPet Box for cats. That's a fantastic value for the cat subscription box. The toys were all well-liked by my cats and the treats were also popular, and although none of my cats are too anxious about going to the vet, I am happy to learn about ClueJay (they make dog tests too) because my puppy is kind of skittish and she was having loose stools last month (turns out it was because she was in heat but better safe than sorry, you know? also we're delaying the spay as part of the breeder's health contract). This box consistently has toys and treats my cats like, I really feel like they're picked out by someone who has actually tried them out with cats before putting them in the box, and that is much appreciated.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? New subscribers usually get an introductory box. However, if you contact VetPet Box, you can get a past month’s box (for instance, if you really want to get the dental box more than once, because your cat has bad teeth).
