Love Goodly VIP Box October/November 2020 Review

Each Love Goodly box comes with an info card detailing the items included. If you're signed up for the VIP box, you'll receive all the same items that are sent in the Essentials box but with 1 extra VIP item. The VIP item is always full-size and information about it is given on its own separate card.

You'll also find that in the bottom corner of the main info card there's a code for 15% off any Love Goodly shop purchase. Throughout my review, I link each item back to the company that has created it, but every product in this box will be available for purchase through Love Goodly on November 1.

Scentuals Radiance Facial Scrub, 100mL - Retail Value $26.67

I'm running dangerously low on both facial cleanser and moisturizer (I do have a glorious spread of oils thanks to the last Love Goodly box, but I like either pairing or alternating them with a classic cream moisturizer), and I was crossing my fingers that the stars would align for me with this month's delivery. I didn't luck out there, but I was sent some beautiful products with other functions that are quite compatible with my needs. The first is this exfoliant. It's a 100% natural product meant for all skin types, and on top of being vegan & cruelty-free, it's also gluten-free, made from ethically sourced ingredients, and comes in a recyclable tube. Its botanical blend is light and smooth—rather runny but not necessarily messy—and its gentle exfoliation comes by way of ground apricot seeds. I personally found it to be a little too gentle and would've preferred a thicker formula and/or a higher concentration of exfoliating granules, because as-is it was a little effortful to rinse off my face in the sink. But I really like the smell of it—it gives off an earthy combo of aloe, apricot, and geranium, and includes other rejuvenating oils that contribute to its scent—and plan to keep it in the shower, where I can use a little more without fear of a mess, rub it into my face, neck, and chest, and get a nice thorough rinse in.

Milk Makeup Kush Clear Brow Gel, 4.5mL - Retail Value $20

I am a super-fan of brow gel! I've heard people say that if nothing else, they never leave the house without first applying mascara or lipstick, and, well, admittedly I leave the house with a fresh face most days, but if I were to choose one cosmetic as my can't-leave-without-it, it would be brow gel. I think an organized brow can make a world of a difference in how together and alert one's features appear, and as someone who does very little maintenance on my eyebrows, I appreciate the natural help with fullness. I noticed on the Milk website that they also sell tinted brow gel in 8 different shades, which could be a great option for someone who likes to add a little color fill to their eyebrows on a daily basis!

Eco Lips Brazilian Vegan Lip Ting in Blessed 0.15 oz - Retail Value $5.49

It's that time of year when I make like a fairy and sprinkle natural lip balms in all my bags, in my car, in the cup holder of my daughter's stroller, heck, even in coat pockets. When you need it you just need it! I welcome a subtle tint to my balm and thus will be including this new tube in my sprinkling efforts. Some subscribers were sent this lip tint in a different shade, Brave, and between the two possible options, I'm glad I received the more pink-ish of the two hues. A more neutral tint is better suited to everyday wear for me. When you twist the balm up out of the tube it almost looks like it could glide on thick like a lipstick, and even has a little shimmer in it, but on my lips, it was only a gentle enhancement of the pink tone I already have, which was nice.

Love Goodly October/November 2020 vegan lip tint swatches

Here's how the "Blessed" shade looks swatched on my arm. The top swatch is from one quick swipe and the bottom one is the result of about 10 swipes. I would say the shimmer is more noticeable on my arm than it is on my lips.

Zoe Ayla Jade Roller With Case - Retail Value $33.99

I know jade rollers make their rounds in wellness, beauty, and lifestyle subscription boxes every so often, and I would understand if some were to argue that they're a little uninspired at this point. On the other hand, they serve as an undeniably nice gift, and as we inch toward thinking about holiday gift-giving I'm open to receiving anything, as long as it's quality. Actually, I received a jade roller in a box around this time last year and gifted it to an aunt who loved and cherished it, and then in the coming months, I found myself wishing I hadn't given it away. I almost bought one for myself but held out and now I'm glad I did. I'll be keeping this one! I like that the handle is also jade. My only feedback is that the broad side of the roller is a bit squeaky, but I'm sure I could solve that with a little olive oil.

*This item is listed on the Love Goodly info card as costing $39.99.

KINDri Cactus & Rose Illuminating Face Oil, 0.5 oz - Retail Value $30

As I mentioned above I was holding off on replenishing my facial moisturizer in case Love Goodly were to send me one in this box, but while I stretch out the last little bit of what I've got (and try and decide what the heck moisturizer to try next in a sea full of incredible options—open to suggestions!) I'm glad to have this lovely oil to use. It's a small but mighty bottle, filled with a serum that blends but three ingredients: Prickly Pear Seed Oil, Apple Stem Cell Extract, and Rose Damascena. This is my first time using a product with apple stem cells! It's said to improve human stem cell growth (incredible). Meanwhile, prickly pear is rich in Vitamins E and K, fatty acids, and antioxidants, offering balance and restoring elasticity. Top it off with a gorgeous rose scent and I'm sold. This oil is nice and thick, can be used in place of moisturizer, and, oh my gosh, it's just really a wonderful experience to use.

Verdict: I'm still relatively new to Love Goodly, having joined the party right as they featured 2 months of single-brand spotlights—so this is actually my very first month of receiving a cross-brand Love Goodly curated spread. I'm so tickled by it! When I find a product I love, I want to use every last drop of it, so the thoughtful items sent by Love Goodly (the only beauty box I receive) are just such a treat to me. It's hard to pick a favorite! I'm pleased that the exfoliating scrub and oil helped toward filling a current need, and that the jade roller is replenishing an item I longed for after regifting the first one last year. The brow gel has introduced me to a great version of a type of product I already knew I loved, and the lip tint will be used on the reg. The retail value for these 5 items is $116.15. That total is a smidge lower than is typical for this subscription, however, it's still more than double the cost of the box ($48.95 + free shipping). After using each item in the box, the only one I might not pay full price for were I to buy it again is the exfoliating scrub, so the value feels appropriate to me.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? You should be able to get the October/November box if you order by November 15. For renewal subscribers, the December/January box renews on November 28.

Value Breakdown: At $48.95 for this box, here’s what you are paying approximately per item:

  • Facial Scrub: $11.24
  • Brow Gel: $8.43
  • Lip Tint: $2.31
  • Jade Roller: $14.32
  • Face Oil: $12.64

Jamie

Great review, thank you! I do the same with lip balms, and will now call myself a lip balm fairy! I love Tatcha Water and Sunday Riley Tidal creams when I get them in boxes or swaps, but can’t bring myself to buy them at retail. When my box stash runs low and I have to buy a moisturizer, I buy the Inkey List Vitamin B, C and E moisturizer. The plain tube is not as pretty as the lovely tubs, but an hour (or eight) later, my face feels the same no matter which of the three I use.
