Lillypost September 2020 Review

Lillypost always sends us a set of Finnley the Fox stickers along with a little note that introduces their coloring contest for the month. Kids can draw directly on the box and incorporate Finnley into the monthly theme, then share it on social media for a chance to win a prize. This month’s theme is "The Desert."

Hedgehugs Autumn Hide-and-Squeak by Steve Wilson - Retail Value $7.99

I've seen these cute Hedgehugs books before, but we've never owned any. This autumn-themed one is really cute as the two adorable hedgehogs befriend a little bat and play a game of "hide and squeak." The illustrations were so pretty and engaging, a bit more so than the storyline for me, but my kids seemed to enjoy it. I'm sure a lot of the appeal of this book is for those who are familiar with the series!

Little Juniper Makes it Big by Aidan Cassie - Retail Value $17.99 (found here for $14.39)

Juniper is tired of being little, it seems that there are a lot of things that she can't accomplish at home because of her size. One day when a new friend who is even smaller than her invites her over to her house, she begins to realize that maybe her house isn't so small after all and might be just right for her. This was a cute and beautifully illustrated book about how tough it can be being little and I think a lot of children will be able to relate to this sweet character!

The Sloth Who Slowed Us Down by Margaret Wild - Retail Value $16.99 (found here for $11.69)

Our last book was the favorite of the bunch this month and for good reason - how cute is that sloth? Amy's family does everything very fast, so much so that they don't have time to talk and enjoy each other's company, until one day, she meets sloth at the park and brings him home with her. This sloth moves very slow and the family finds that they are slowing down as they wait for the sloth to eat or bathe and eventually they are no longer the fastest family and instead they are enjoying life more. This was a cute book that felt pretty allegorical for today's fast-paced world and it's a great reminder to make time for your family.

Verdict: This month's Lillypost box was filled with some incredibly adorable critters! I love that they included a seasonal book for our board book and the kids really loved the stories about Juniper and the sloth. Overall, they were great selections that were perfect for my kiddos, something this subscription seems to accomplish fairly consistently for us! The total retail value of our books came to $42.97 ($34.07 with sale prices) which isn't bad for a $24.90 ($19.95 + $4.95 shipping) box!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you will receive the October box, although it is possible you may get these books in a future box!

Value Breakdown: At $24.90 ($19.95 a month + $4.95 shipping) for this box, here’s what you are paying approximately per item:

  • Hedgehugs: $4.63
  • Little Juniper Makes it Big: $10.42
  • The Sloth Who Slowed Us Down: $9.85

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!
