GlossyBox October 2020 Review

GlossyBox includes an info booklet that tells you about each included item, its value, and a tip on how to use it. I also have to give a shout out to this gloriously beautiful storybook-themed box!

KVD Vegan Beauty Studded Kiss Crème Lipstick in 'Lovecraft', 1 g - Estimated Value $5.88 (buy a full size 3.4 g for $20.00)

This is a formula and a color I already know and love so I am excited to have a little mini size to stash in my purse. 'Lovecraft' is a dirty pink mauve shade that is dark enough for fall but you could totally wear this year-round. The finish is velvet smooth and matte, though not drying at all. I love the little studded tube too!

Love!

And here it is on!

Onå New York Spotlight Sheet Mask - Estimated Value $8.00 (buy a box of 5 for $40.00)

I use sheet masks A LOT and I am always pleased to see a new-to-me brand in a delivery. This mask felt luxe! It was a two-piece gel sort and it was infused with pearlescent shimmer. While it didn't feel super wet on my face, the serum inside absorbed into my skin easily and left a soft and glowing finish. I liked the ingredient list too! Featuring Centella Asiatica, willow bark, and niacinamide, its no wonder my skin looked pretty radiant after removing this.

Here you can see the shimmery mask material.

Earth Harbor Naturals AURORA Superfood Luminance Ampoule, 1 fl oz - Retail Value $32.00

I like Earth Harbor's formulas a lot, and this delightfully green ampoule is no exception. This is the sort of formula that is a dream for dry skin because it has so many fatty and nourishing oils inside from hemp, meadowfoam, jojoba, and avocado paired with botanicals like rosemary, seaweed, and tansy. It has a bright and slightly sharp scent that is pleasant and natural. If it is feeling a little heavy, this is a great facial massage oil too, especially with a roller or gua sha. And remember you can always follow up any massage with a warm towel to remove some of the oil but leave behind wonderfully hydrated skin.

Generation Clay Ultra Violet Brightening Purple Clay Mask, 1.69 oz - Estimated Value $21.28 (buy a full size 3.97 oz for $49.99)

I have had a thing for lilac and lavender-colored products lately. Seriously, no clue why, but I used to hate purple and now I am weirdly into it. This clay mask has a pretty dusky purple shade that dries to a pale lilac. Sure, the color isn't why we are wearing this mask, but it adds to the fun factor. Most of you know I have drier skin but that I have been experiencing maskne like so many of us. This is a really great spot treatment to dry up some of those spots in general or if you have mature or normal skin, try this all over because the AHAs inside are great for exfoliating your skin and adding brightness. I thought this was a really generous sample size too!

Ciaté London's Extraordinary Translucent Setting Powder, 7 g - Estimated Value $10.27 (buy a full size 15 g for $22.00)

Our final item is perhaps the least exciting, but I use a lot of powder, so I am fine with it. This isn't my favorite brand, but this formula does its job: it mattifies my skin (but not TOO much) and sets my makeup. I can't ask for much more from a translucent powder.

Verdict: This month's GlossyBox has a value of around $77.43 which is decent for a $21 box. I think this might be one of the better GlossyBox assortments I have received all year. They did a great job curating a mix of skincare and makeup in brands I already know and love (with a new one too!) and formulas that are effective. More like this, please!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, your first box will likely be the November box.

From GlossyBox

The month that you order in is the first month that you will receive. For example, if you subscribe any time between January 1-31, your recurring subscription will begin with the January Box. The only exception to this rule would be if the monthly box sold out before the end of the month. In its place, we will ship a special edition of the Classic Box, which is comprised of our top 5 items over the most recent months.

Value Breakdown: At $21.00 for this box, here is what you are paying approximately per item:

  • Lipstick $1.59
  • Sheet Mask $2.17
  • Ampoule $8.68
  • Clay Mask $5.77
  • Powder $2.79

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

I unsubscribed to Glossy years ago and got the generation clay mask and the Ciate transulent powder way back and both were “meh”. That oil would be a win for me as I am obsessed with oils for my skin as it is very dry lately.

I got this box variation! I usually enjoy GlossyBox and their customer service, but the Lovecraft lipstick came without the cap. At first I thought it must’ve come off during shipping but after literally turning the box upside down, I didn’t find one. When I told CS, they offered me a $5 credit, which was nice, but I really want try that shade. I told them in my next response, I’d much rather have another lipstick sent…
They asked for pictures of the “damaged” product.
It doesn’t look “damaged,” but I’m still too freaked out to put it on. Am I being unreasonable about not feeling comfortable enough to use the cap-less bullet I have? Just curious what you might think. Sending them a photo of the lipstick without a top seems kind of silly, but…

I definitely don’t think you’re being unreasonable. Even if the product doesn’t look damaged, it can be contaminated with something else and how are you even supposed to take it anywhere (or even store it if you don’t put it upright all the time; I store my makeup by just throwing it into my drawer) without a cap? I think you should just send the pic anyway. Worse they can do is say no and you’d still end up the same as if you hadn’t emailed

I never even thought to use a warm towel with some face oils. I want to use less because it clogs me up easy. I have a full elemis one. So happy for that tip thanks!

Amy

Wow lovecraft looks so much pinker in your pictures and on you then it does on me. It’s an old favorite of mine and I was getting low so the mini was most welcome!

But I definitely thought you had gotten a different color with those photos. Super cute on you regardless!

I think you’re missing the Beauty Crop blush duo, everyone was supposed to get that!
