Vegancuts Beauty Box
4.3 overall rating
40 Ratings | 8 Reviews

The Vegancuts Beauty Box is a monthly beauty and makeup subscription box. All of their products are vegan (and they tend to be natural, too). They also typically include a nice mix of full-size and sample beauty items. Vegancuts also offers a monthly Snack Box and quarterly Makeup Box.

This review is of the $22.95 a month Vegancuts Beauty Box.

Vegancuts sends a single package to subscribers who get both the beauty and snack boxes. The beauty items are separated into a little bag, which looks like more of an environmentally-friendly material than the old bags. (If you do not get the snack box, I don’t think you get the little bag.)

Vegancuts Beauty Box September 2020 Review

The Vegancuts Beauty Box usually contains a variety of hair care, skincare, and bath and body products. There’s often one makeup product, as well, although there's been less makeup lately.

Emma Hardie Moisture Boost Vitamin C Cream (0.68 fl oz) - Estimated Value $26.15 (buy 1.69 fl oz for $65)

This is a new brand for me and I am always happy about discovering new brands. This has an ingredients list that reads like a K-beauty product with lots of fermentation filtrates and plant extracts. Vitamin C is an antioxidant and I'm always happy to receive antioxidant skincare, and this also has niacinamide, which can help reduce redness, plus lots of natural oils like sweet almond oil and shea butter for moisture. Although this is listed as having fragrance, the scent was not strong, which is what I prefer for facial skincare anyway. I used this after the clay mask (see below) and it was a great pair. I typically have oily skin but I think the mask helped get rid of some oils and prepared my skin for hydration from this cream. This has a thickness that is more along the lines of what I prefer to use at night instead of under makeup.

Natural Endeavours Black Cherry Lotion (4 fl oz) - Listed Value $10

Although I found this for sale on Cratejoy, it's not entirely clear how much you get for the price on Cratejoy (like the bottles appear to be 2 oz but three are pictured?). So I am just using the value from the information card. This is a body lotion that's on the thinner side (so not a body butter, just a lotion). It absorbs into the skin well and smells really good, and so far I have not had any kind of reaction to using it, even though my skin is somewhat sensitive to fragranced products. (This company seems to have a subscription box of its own but the website for it is not fully developed yet.)

Stylefox Super Greens Skin Detox Mask (1 oz) - Estimated Value $12.50 (buy 2 oz for $25)

For what it's worth, I love clay masks as they really seem compatible with my oily skin. I also like getting them in powdered form because you are paying less for packaging, shipping, and water! I do take issue with the instructions for this one, which suggests mixing a half teaspoon of water and a half teaspoon of clay in the palm of your hand. Let's just say, that is not going to work. Equal parts water and clay lead to a ball of slightly damp clay. You need at least 3:1 or 4:1 water to clay and I would suggest one of these kits for mixing, which is going to be more effective and less messy than using your hand. This really helped get the gunk out of my pores and got rid of excess oil and that is mostly what I am looking for in a clay mask so I was happy.

William Roam Sense Tamarack Larch Tree Bark Exfoliating Soap (2.5 oz) - Estimated Value $5.66 (buy 3 for $16.99)

There is not nearly enough tree back in these to exfoliate your skin. But, it's still good soap. I like the hemisphere shape as it's just the right size to fit in my (small) hand for a shower without dropping. It lathers reasonably well and smells nice. I switch off and on between bar soap and shower gel so I don't mind getting a bar soap every now and then. I do feel clean after using this and it rinses off without leaving residue.

Alaffia Authentic African Black Soap (2 fl oz) - Estimated Value $1.25 (buy 16 fl oz for $9.99)

This is a fair trade product that is made with unrefined shea butter and palm oil (the kind that isn't obtained by deforestation). This company further provides education and promotes gender equality, so you can feel good about using their products. This is marketed as "all in one" as a facial wash, shampoo, hand soap, shaving, etc. I decided to try it as a body wash because I don't like to use highly scented products on my face. It's a good body wash, especially in combination with a pouf sponge. It lathers reasonably well although I would suggest using a bit more than you are used to with sulfate-containing shower gels (this is sulfate-free).

Verdict: I calculated a total value of $55.56 for this month’s Vegancuts Beauty Box. That's more than twice the month-to-month cost of the subscription. All of the items and most of the brands were new to me this month (last month had a few repeat items so this month was a nice change of pace). I especially liked the combination of the mask followed by the vitamin C cream but I do have to say the lotion smelled (and worked great) and both soaps will get used up (sooner rather than later) so overall I was quite happy with this box.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes! The month in which you sign up is the box you'll receive.

ACTIVE DEAL: $40 off. No coupon needed - just use this link.

Value Breakdown: At $22.95 for the box, you are paying approximately the following per item:

  • Vitamin C cream $10.80
  • Lotion $4.13
  • Mask $5.16
  • Bar soap $2.34
  • African black soap $0.52

This was my first VeganCuts box, and I was disappointed. Based on what previous boxes had I was expecting a bit more, but it felt like almost all of the products were just deluxe samples. I did like that cream, and the mask is decent. But the rest of the products were meh. I ended up canceling. If this month just turned out to be a dud and not the norm I might re-subscribe because I really like their mission and shipping was FAST. Otherwise I think I might look at Kinder Beauty instead.

This was my least favorite Vegancuts box ever. I’m not really looking for sample sized body care items in a beauty box, because the full sizes are far less expensive than skincare or makeup and easy to purchase from a natural grocery store such as Whole Foods. I don’t mind getting one, but 3? I am glad to have the Vitamin C cream, but the rest of the box was disappointing.

I love this box! It’s always solid with useful and quality products. This month is a great skin care box for fall. I also really like that part of my purchase goes to a different animal sanctuary each month!

This is a great box. The mask kit is really cute. I’m going to order one to give my soon to be 9 year old for her birthday.

I got an EH face oil in my Boxy Premium. It was my first Premium box and EH product and I am enjoying everything. It’s a very luxe oil and a little goes a long way. I wore it overnight and my skin looked great in the morning. I bet that cream is just as nice.
