meowbox August 2020 Review

meowbox has a lot of exclusive toys that are usually pretty popular with my cats. From my perspective, it’s nice to see some things that don’t turn up in other cat subscription boxes:

The information card typically just gives a URL for finding out more information about the items in the box. The picture is adorable, as usual. This month had a picnic theme.

On to the items:

Crochet Kitty Tuna Fish Sandwich - Retail Value $6

This is handmade; the fish is felt and there is catnip of course. I think the packaging is clever and probably can count as a sixth toy if you wad up the paper and give it to your cats. My cats like how it has two different textures in the same toy and is also on the small-to-medium side, as cat toys go.

Getting Antsy Wand - Retail Value $9.50

There's often a wand or finger dangler toy in this box. My cats do like these, though -- especially Sneaky. This has a couple of ants with stringy legs (don't worry, they're well attached) and Sneaky thought it was great. Pretty much all the wands meowbox sends out are well-received, though.

Rosé All Day Catnip Toy

This one wasn't for sale in the meowbox shop yet. It has a fuzzy texture and a FEATHER so Madison was quite excited by this one. He is all about feathers. Sometimes he tries to eat them (although he didn't here). The feather seems securely attached so this one should hold up long term.

Stinky Cheese 2-Pack

This one wasn't for sale in the meowbox shop yet and it is custom for the box, so I couldn't provide a value. The cracker is very small, which my cats do like a lot, and the cheese is larger but very lightweight. Both have catnip, of course. The cheese is more of a Monkey kind of toy, he will wrestle with such things. It's super fun to catch him going at it when he thinks no one is around. If you would like to watch a 9-year-old video of some of my cats eating cheese (including Mr. Kitty back when he didn't have IBD and could see out of both eyes), you can click here.

Emerald Pet Feline Dental Treats, Ocean Fish (3 oz) - Retail Value $4.99

These have come in several cat subscription boxes this month but my cats do like them and they're not too stinky. They come in a resealable bag to maintain freshness and they're made in the US. Sneaky will end up getting most of them before and after her asthma treatments.

Gratuitous kitty photos:

Verdict: I couldn't calculate a total value for August’s meowbox because some of the items weren't yet for sale in their shop. I appreciated that there were a variety of different toy types, sizes, and textures, as this is something that interests my cats a good deal. As usual, the theme was cute and the items fit the theme quite nicely (as they always do, since most are custom made for the box). My cats liked the treats as well.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? It is too late for the August box, so your subscription would likely start with September, but you can buy some of the individual items from the meowbox store; just click the links above for the ones that are available at this time.

Value Breakdown: At $22.95 for the subscription plus free shipping, you are paying approximately $4.59 per item.

Meowbox always has such cute toys! My kids would go crazy for the rose bottle with the feathers! I also loved seeing the video with Mr. Kitty. My cat Lucy is a big fan of cheese. She will beg for it when she knows I have it out (and she ALWAYS knows!!). It’s adorable and pathetic. So the cheese tasting made me smile extra wide.

I agree with the others. It was a special treat to be able to see Mr. Kitty again. He has been sorely missed. Thanks for adding the video to your review.

As always, a real pleasure to experience your clowder. Thanks for all your great pet reviews

Hi Ragan,
Thank you for the lovely review. As always, the box looks great. It would never have occurred to me that any furry friend would be into the ant toy (triggered my arachnophobia straight up!) so I think Sneaky is very brave. And your video of your cats reviewing different cheeses was awesome for many reasons, but most particularly, MR KITTY! (<3) xxx

One time Sneaky caught a live roach and walked around with it in her mouth, legs wiggling. You could hear me screaming 3 miles away, probably.

I also loved seeing Mr Kitty again!! Any chance you might review a puppy subscription box with your new pup?

Pumpkin won’t sit for photos the way Nyx would. She goes straight for the camera. I have very few pictures of her despite the fact that I’ve had her for 6 months now. Also we are just waiting for her to go into heat the first time (not looking forward to that). So no plans for any dog reviews now.

You wouldn’t recognize her based on the picture I posted way back when, she is 75 pounds and still growing.
