LUXSB - Luxury Scent Box
3.7 overall rating
101 Ratings | 70 Reviews

LUXSB is a fragrance subscription box for men and women (formerly known as Luxury Scent Box). Each month you will receive 9 mL (about 0.3 fl oz) of a designer fragrance. You can accept the fragrance of the month, you can choose scents based on a short profile survey, or you can just build a calendar of scents on your own.

There are two subscription options:

  • The Standard Plan for $15 a month and includes one 9 mL travel spray
  • The Premium Plan for $18 a month and includes one 9 mL travel spray and access to premium items

LUXSB also gives active members the option to upgrade your subscription to the Duo plan, which includes one case and two premium or non-premium perfumes per month.

This is a review of the standard plan for $15/month + free shipping.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

LUXSB August 2020 Review

There were some instructions for using the holder.

There was also a card with more information about the fragrance and the perfumer.

The fragrances come with a little velour bag if you want to protect the vials in your purse.

On to the fragrance:

Los Angeles by Gallivant - Estimated Value $28.50 (Buy 30 mL for $95)

This is one of the best values for a perfume subscription I've seen; seriously, that is almost twice the monthly box cost (although this may be one of the premium fragrances that goes with the slightly higher subscription cost as described above). From what I can tell, Gallivant is a British company as the main e-commerce website offers prices in pounds, so I've linked above to Lucky Scent, where you can buy this in US dollars (and I've had great luck with Lucky Scent purchases in the past, they even let you request specific free samples with an order).

Lucky Scent lists this as a men's fragrance but I'd say it was suitably unisex. (I tend to prefer unisex fragrances so it works well for me from that standpoint. I do admit I can imagine this working well on a man also.)

This is an unusual fragrance, a little outside the range of scents I'm used to, but it works. Base notes include cade oil, cypriol oil, musk, heliotrope, and guaiac wood. Mid notes include narcissus, tuberose, and sea notes. And top notes include eucalyptus, clary sage, mandarin, and pineapple.

I honestly expected something with eucalyptus and clary sage to smell medicinal and it's weird because, although I can detect those notes, they work well in the overall blend, and this doesn't smell medicinal at all. The fruity notes blend into the woods really nicely as well. And there is definitely something in there that makes me think of the ocean. The fruitiness keeps this related to Southern California from a geographical standpoint (without the fruit this could just as well remind me of the Pacific Northwest). As time wears on, the florals start to come out, at least with my body chemistry, but they still just work with the overall blend.

Verdict: The estimated value of my fragrance this month is $28.50. This is a great value, plus I really liked the fragrance and learned about a new perfumer. I had to think about this one a lot, and try it out a few times as well before I wrote this review, as I could detect a lot more of the listed notes than usual and it was kind of fun for me to consider how they all worked together. I think LUXSB is a great way to learn about some niche perfumers, and if you have similar taste to mine, it's usually a safe bet to just go with the scent of the month, which is not something I could say about every perfume subscription.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes, all you have to do is choose this fragrance.

Value Breakdown: This subscription is $15/monthly and this month, I received $28.50 worth of fragrance (but again, this is highly variable based on what scent you choose).

Thank you for the review Ragan. I am not one to normally wear perfume but I do like the info you provided in this review. Do you think you could give just an estimate of how long 9 ml would last? Like if you wore the perfume everyday? Thanks in advance!

I think most of the vials for perfume subscriptions are designed to last a month but that depends on if you wear the same one everyday, how much you spray on, how often you reapply, etc.

I got one of their perfumes (Istanbul) from Happy Rebel last year. They had a bunch of options, and it was hard to choose! I’m going to look into this sub, because I really enjoy the scent I have and the value is definitely there.

Great review (as always!).
