Lillypost August 2020 "At the Beach" Review

Lillypost always sends us a set of Finnley the Fox stickers along with a little note that introduces their coloring contest for the month. Kids can draw directly on the box and incorporate Finnley into the monthly theme, then share it on social media for a chance to win a prize. This month’s theme is "At the Beach" and they shared some fun beach facts with us!

We Go Together by Link Dyrdahl - Retail Value $8.99

Our board book this month was cute, although maybe a little repetitive for me! Each page of this bunny and bear pair has "we go together" and is finished with various combinations, some are very typical like cookies and milk, others are cute like a button and a belly, and some just fit well for rhyming purposes like Pluto and Mars which rhymed with the moon and the stars. The illustrations are where this book really shines as all of these fun lines are so beautifully illustrated in detail and very fun to look at! This one was great for my 2-year-old, but the big kids enjoyed it, too!

The Great Indoors by Julie Falatko - Retail Value $17.99 (found here for $12.79)

When people go on vacation, they like to enjoy the great outdoors, but animals already live outside so, in this fun twist about some forest animal's vacation, they head indoors to enjoy all of the things we use every day. One bear is quite content to spend vacation drying her hair, the beavers are happy to cook, and the skunks are enjoying their showers, but eventually, they grow tired of all the "amenities" and are ready to head home to the great outdoors until next year. This book was silly and fun and provided a great starting point for imagining what animals might really do for vacation!

Not Quite Narwhal by Jessie Sima - Retail Value $17.99 (found here for $16.19)

This book was our favorite of course because what kid doesn't love narwhals and unicorns? Kelp lives under the ocean with the other narwhals and knows that he looks a bit different and doesn't swim quite as well as they do. One day as he is near the shore he spots and animal that looks just like him and he realizes there might be others. He makes his way into the world of unicorns and finds a place that he belongs, but he has a decision to make about whether he wants to be a unicorn or go back to being a narwhal. This was a sweet story full of plenty of fun creatures and illustrations that my kiddos loved!

Verdict: We received some cute books from Lillypost this month and as always, the mixed book box meant there was something for everyone! Our favorite book this month was Not Quite Narwhal and we have already read it several times and I'm sure we will continue to do so. The total retail value of our books came to $44.97 ($37.97 with sale prices) which is a great deal for a $24.90 ($19.95 + $4.95 shipping) box!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you will receive the September box, although it is possible you may get these books in a future box!

Value Breakdown: At $24.90 ($19.95 a month + $4.95 shipping) for this box, here’s what you are paying approximately per item:

  • We Go Together: $4.98
  • The Great Indoors: $9.96

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!
