Beauty Heroes September 2020 Review feat. Pai

You'll always get a card with a new monthly ritual that includes past and present featured Beauty Heroes items.

The second info card you'll get has a little more info about the featured brand, Pai, as well as details on the items sent. Pai is such a great brand for anyone with sensitive or reactive skin. It is a brand I always tend to rely on more during the cold months where my face feels wind-chapped and just red and icky. Really pleased that they are the featured brand this month. This month is also focused on the double-cleansing ritual, something I have been a big fan of for years!

Pai Skincare Light Work Rosehip Cleansing Oil, 145 mL - Retail Value $56.00

Cleansing oils are always my first step in a double cleanse. I actually like to apply a little of a cleanser like this to my dry face. The oil grabs onto dirt and makeup and goes to work removing it as a great first step to super clean skin and pores. This is a pretty sizable bottle of cleanser, which makes the steep price tag feel a little more reasonable. You also don't need much of this per use. Inside the bottle is a blend of botanical oils (olive, sunflower, castor, rosehip) that wash away grime without disturbing the natural skin barrier. This oil does have some perfuming essential oils (jasmine, lime, orange, geranium, and basil) that give it a great aromatherapy-esque scent. I also found that a few drops of this oil on dry knees and elbows is an excellent moisturizer!

Pai Skincare Camellia & Rose Gentle Hydrating Cleanser + Cloth, 200 mL - Retail Value $70.00

This is such a ridiculously large tube of cleanser. This is going to last me a loooong time! You can certainly use the super gentle cleanser as a one-step cleansing routine, but I loved it even more following the oil. Soft, milky, and super gentle, this step is great for making sure your face is perfectly clean, but not stripped. It also adds in a little dose of lactic acid which works as a mild exfoliant when combined with the rich oils (camellia, sweet almond) and shea inside. This kit also came with a great cleansing and exfoliating cloth that feels like it came straight out of a spa. It is perfect for massaging the cleanser into your skin and adding a little physical exfoliation with its two sides of terrycloth and muslin. It also has a sewn-in ring so you can hang it up between uses and keep it dry. This left my face feeling so soft and calm.

Pai Skincare Kukui + Jojoba Bead Skin Brightening Exfoliator, 10 mL - Estimated Value $6.40 (Buy a full size 75 mL for $48.00)

Our last item was a smaller tube of exfoliating gel. Much like most Pai products, it is filled with nourishing oils like apricot, avocado, and kukui! It also has round jojoba beads for massage and exfoliation. I actually think this formula might have been a little too gentle for my skin. I like to really feel some sort of exfoliation and this took quite a lot of product to really feel that familiar scrubbiness. It should be applied with dry fingers to dry skin, massaged all over the face, and then massaged again with wet fingers to create a more creamy texture before the final rinse. My skin did feel great, just not great enough to invest in this one when I have other physical exfoliants I prefer.

Verdict: This month, Beauty Heroes delivered some great cleansers from one of my fave cold winter skin brands. Great timing! As a double cleansing enthusiast, I was stoked by this curation. If you aren't cleanser obsessed, you might not be as excited. It was nice to also see an exfoliant, but I wish the sample size had been larger. Regardless, I find myself pretty pleased with this box and its $132.40 value, though a larger item would have added even more value for sure. It also might have been nice to sample one of Pai's incredible moisturizers since I know I already love them but want everyone to also try them out.

I wanted to let you know, the 3 month subscription price you have is incorrect, the website says $45.95 / month ($137.85 one-time payment) for a 3 month subscription

Beauty Heroes is by far one of the best subscription boxes, imo. However, I have been on a hiatus from BH for a few months and this month did not entice me to re-sub. Hopefully soon as I miss my first of the month box of goodies.

Pai is such a great brand. I like cleansing oils but a lot of the time the scents leave my eyes watering and itchy after I’ve cleansed and rinsed. This oil cleanser is the only one I’ve found that doesn’t do that. I got a mini deluxe sample as a GWP a while back and the larger size has been on my wish list for a while so I’m excited about that.

However, I would’ve preferred to trade the giant size cream cleanser for a smaller size cream cleanser (they have two sizes and this is the larger one) and a cream or serum.

Still, I recommend these cleansers to anyone who has sensitive skin, Rosacea or eczema. They are lovely cleansers.

I don’t remember receiving a cloth. Was it in the cleanser box?
