Style Plan by Frank And Oak Review – August 2020

It’s important to note that for a limited time, Frank And Oak is waiving their $25 styling fee when you use the MSA coupon code, and has extended their return policy to 30 days! That means you can sign up for the Style Plan for free and only pay for the items you hold on to.

*As a reminder, you will get charged for everything in your Style Plan box up-front when ordering and will receive a refund for anything you end up returning.

Another great feature that sets this clothing subscription apart from others is that they have a button on most of their items to “Add to my next Style Plan box.” This allows you to select what goes in your Style Plan box without the help of a stylist, or you can take some of the stylist’s suggestions but not others. Not every item has this feature, but many do. I’ve never seen this feature in a styling subscription before, but the fact that it’s an option here is part of what made me really love my first experience with Frank And Oak!

My Style Plan by Frank And Oak Review

Quarter Length Ribbed Socks in Olive Green – Retail Value $12.50/Member Price $11.50

This month I greet you with socks! I tried a pair of these socks in my first Frank And Oak delivery and was amazed at how noticeably positive of an experience a good pair of socks can offer. I had mentioned my plan to slowly stock up on these socks in a variety of the glorious colors on offer, and this olive pair (which is much yellower than what I typically think of as “olive”) is my second installment.

Frank And Oak olive green socks

I am a year-round cold-foot person and can be found wearing socks around the house through the summer. I couldn’t have been more tickled that this pair matched the chartreuse pops on my dress. That little coordinated detail caught my eye throughout the day and each time was a tiny joy that felt so needed and appreciated.

The Hemp Tee in Oil Green, size small – Retail Value $39.50/Member Price $34.50

The Stevie Cutoff Short in Blue, size 27 – Retail Value $69.50/Member Price $59.50

Last month‘s sage shirt dress and henley blouse were nicer pieces that felt so good and exciting to style for small outings, even if my destination was just the grocery store. But realistically I’m still spending a majority of my time in super-comfy clothes (and not leaving my house/yard much) this summer, so I went a more casual route with my Style Plan by Frank And Oak this month. I was eager to try this Hemp Tee after seeing it in Marne’s review, and I concur with her assessment that it’s got an awesome texture to it and a nice cut that’s boxy but feminine, and the pre-folded sleeves are a nice touch. I also like that the crew neckline is kind of close-fitting. I’ve been in a crafty mood lately so I’m thinking I might embroider a small detail into this shirt—maybe a word or phrase or small design. Any suggestions as to what or where?

My stylist chose these Stevie Cutoff shorts for me in a lighter wash, and I used the “Add to my next Style Plan box” function to switch them out for this mid-wash. This wash feels more ‘me.’ I prefer jeans that don’t have stretch in them so they can break in and improve with wear, which is true of this pair. Their high waist is totally within my comfort zone, and their length has just enough coverage. Love ’em!

The SuperSoft V-Neck Tee in Beige, size small – Retail Value $39.50/Summer Sale Price $19.99

“SuperSoft” is right! This tee’s composition is 73% tencel modal and 27% polyester. Tencel modal is a wood-based fiber that, according to, has—I am obsessed with this description—”exquisite softness.” I know and love this fabric for this exact reason. I’m also a fan of a tasteful V-neck, and I find the length of this tee to be my ideal, which is to say, it’s short without being cropped, so it hits at a flattering place on my hips but also tucks in easily, both partially and fully. Above you can see I tried it on both with the jean shorts I received this month and the brown linen-tencel shorts I was sent in my first box and thought it worked well with both. The tee is lightweight but not sheer, which is another win!

The SuperSoft Fluid Tank Top in Brown, size small – Retail Value $29.50/Member Price $27.50

Here’s a second top in the same material as the above V-neck tee. So nice! The high neckline and subtly tapered shoulders offer a slightly unique cut for an otherwise basic tank. The earthy brown hue isn’t something you can find just anywhere, which is true of so many of Frank And Oak‘s colors, and part of what draws me to their pieces. All of the aforementioned combines to make this tank easy to style but unordinary. Isn’t that the goal? It’s definitely mine! I tried this tank top on with my favorite green maxi skirt for these photos, then ended up wearing this outfit for the rest of the day because it just felt right. See what Marne thought of this tank top (in black) here!

Verdict: Confirmed: everything Frank And Oak does, they do well. With these thoughtfully designed and masterfully executed pieces, rocking even a crew neck tee and jean shorts feels special. They nail the fit and feel of their clothing, and offer them to us to wear with a clean conscience. It makes a difference in how I feel in my clothes! I have been slowly trying to change my buying habits to focus on buying handmade and locally made clothing, or from small businesses in general, and with Frank And Oak’s Style Plan helping me fill out my closet with sustainably produced pieces, I don’t see myself ever going back to fast fashion.

To Wrap Up:

Can I still get this box if I sign up today? Style Plan by Frank And Oak uses your preferences and tastes to curate a mix of styles just for you, so you may have different options than me. You can sign up for your own Style Plan to see what the styling team will pick for you (and/or make some picks for yourself, like I’ve done each month)!

COUPON: Use code MSA35 to get $35 off your first month of Style Plan!

Value Breakdown: The retail price for the five items I received this month is $190.50, but with the discounted member pricing (and, in the case of the V-neck tee, the summer sale price) it comes to $152.99. That’s a savings of $37.51 for this box. Wow!

  1. I can not get the sizing right with this company. Their pants just were not made for folks with more meat in their legs. Even if the waist fits, they do not feel comfortable around my calves, thighs, and hips. The one dress I got from them started to pile after two washes (air dry). It also has taken me over 6 weeks to get reimbursed.

    • Oh, that’s no good, Susan! Pants are notoriously challenging for me, too, so I was honestly shocked that these jean shorts worked out well (and, full disclosure: I wasn’t so sure I’d keep them at first and sought feedback from my mum & husband, who liked them on me). Here’s hoping your reimbursement shows up very soon!

  2. I have a lot of sensitivities to textures and need all my clothes to be super soft, so modal is totally my BFF.

    • You have me imagining a whole modal wardrobe now, Randie, and wondering what took me so long to seek this material out specifically!

  3. Those radish earrings were awesome! I want to see more of your fruit and veg jewels. I like all your choices this month, earth tones look great on you. I must say you have a beautiful smile!

    • Oh my gosh, thank you! The only other food-inspired earrings I made that day were oranges. Maybe I’ll rock them next month. 😁

  4. I love this review and would like to submit my suggestion that you embroider that shirt with radishes and other vegetables to match those bomb earrings you made that I loved from one of your other reviews! 😍 also, if you can get your GORGEOUS cat to participate in future reviews I am 100% here for it.

    • I second that – your kitty is beautiful!!

    • That’s a great idea, Joy! What is it about radishes that make for a fun style statement? I might have to go for it. And, I’ll let my cat Oscar know his fans are rooting for a reappearance. 😇

      • Radishes/rooting… I see what you did there 😉
