Norlii Scandinavian Home & Lifestyle Box August 2020 Review

This month's Norlii is 'tapas' themed!

Oak Cutting Board by Normann Copenhagen - Retail Value $68.00

I really like wooden cheeseboards so this was a quick win for me straight out of the box. I love that it is this really grainy and wonderful oak and the design is minimalistic and clean. It is a good size for a smaller charcuterie board, measuring 11 inches long and about 5.5 wide. It is also already treated with food-safe oil which has given it a soft, smooth texture. I am excited to pile this up with brie and fruit for an at-home date night next week.

Normann Copenhagen Marble Salt Jar - Retail Value $51.00 (currently on sale for $43.35)

I wouldn't consider myself a salt snob, but I do have over 5 different types in my kitchen. Martha Stewart has 47, so I am pretty basic in comparison. Whenever we have a sit-down type of dinner I like to find a cute bowl and have the salt out on the table with a small spoon. It just feels a lot fancier than a shaker to me. This tiny marble bowl is pure perfection. Marble plays a big part in our kitchen because my island top is a very old piece of Carrera marble I found in a stranger's basement on Craigslist. I can't really afford marble accents unless they are older and secondhand, but I have been collecting smaller pieces to accent my beloved island. At 2.5 inches wide and 1.5 inches tall, this little bowl somehow still makes a very stately statement on my table, especially when combined with the natural wood of the cheeseboard nearby.

Paper Napkins from Broste Copenhagen, 20 napkins - Listed Value $3.00

These I am not totally crazy about, but I think it is because I don't expect to find paper napkins in a pretty expensive box. Granted, between the board and bowl we are already ahead cost-wise, but I feel like these aren't up to the same level. Taken in by themselves, they are nice paper napkins. I like the stripes and the size is generous. Twenty napkins should also be plenty for a small gathering. I do think a single linen tea towel would have been a better addition, though.

Mini Bamboo Spoon and Forks

This tiny trio was listed as a bonus gift, and I really like them. The little forks are perfect for that cheese board and the tiny spoon is ideal for scooping the perfect amount of salt out of the marble bowl. Made of bamboo, they have a really interesting grain to them and feel light, yet durable.

Verdict: This was my first Norlii box and it feels very different than many of my other regular reviews. This is not the sort of box you buy because you want some astronomical value inside, but rather the box you reach for when you appreciate high-quality, lower quantity. It isn't for everyone! For $69.95, the items inside that I could price do total at least $119, which is about $50 over the box cost. The napkins and bamboo spoon and forks add even more value. That being said, not everyone out there is going to be happy with these items for the cost of the box. I recommend this for the minimalists out there who want to add higher-end Scandi elements to their home. Personally, I am loving it.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

I enjoyed this box very much and even ordered the companion items offered separately at the Norlii website!

I am also really looking forward to the September/October box MSA review!

LOL, Izzie, thank you for the clarification. That is what I miss when I skim read a review. 😊

I think this is a good example of a box not having to have crazy insane retail values on everything to be a really nice curation & provide an ~experience~. Paper napkins & mini bamboo utensils are certainly not luxe, and Norlii isn’t claiming they are, but you can’t look at this set & say they don’t belong, IMO.

Hi Boxy Fox,
If you were talking to me, not an island but on a river, the AuSable River, in Grayling, Michigan. It is beautiful here and we are able to hear birdsong and watch wildlife.
I try and soak up and appreciate every moment. Upon my husband’s death, this cabin will belong to his youngest son. I am fortunate to have this place and my husband now to live up to the best of my ability ❤️

I think BoxyFox was referring to the Carrara marble kitchen island Mentioned in the review.
However, your cabin and its surrounding sound amazing and very relaxing 🙂

This is one of my favorite boxes! I have to say in defense of paper napkins, that there are times I want to use them instead of cloth i.e. having appetizers on the dock or a picnic at the park. These were a great size and the design was interesting without being too cute for my menfolk.

After years of subscription boxes, I have witnessed my own evolution. I now prefer the delights of receiving interesting quality goods over “quantity of stuff”.

With so many boxes now available, each one of us are able to find the perfect match 😁

I think cloth napkins would have been a better choice for the box. Love those tiny bamboo forks.
