meowbox July 2020 Review

meowbox has a lot of exclusive toys that are usually pretty popular with my cats. From my perspective, it’s nice to see some things that don’t turn up in other cat subscription boxes:

The information card typically just gives a URL for finding out more information about the items in the box. The picture is adorable, as usual. This month had a London theme.

This month there was also a coupon.

On to the items:

Birthday Toy

This will not be in every box, just to be clear. On sign-up for this subscription, you put in your cat's birthday, and in your cat's birthday month, you will get an extra toy. I have no idea when my cats' birthdays are so we put in a random month. So even if you don't receive this toy in this month, you will receive the current birthday toy in whatever month you choose for your cat's birthday. The toys vary from year to year. This is a catnip plush in a small size with a canvas-texture outer covering that Monkey really likes. (Unfortunately pictures of him licking toys are generally just the top of his head and not all that interesting...)

The Empurrium Handmade Catnip British Flag Toy

The Empurrium toys show up in this box frequently. This is no-stuffing felt (but there is catnip of course) and it also has a ribbon. Madison was quite interested in this and I am sure I will find him rolling around on it later but he was a bit camera shy the day I took the pictures for this box.

The Queen's Corgi

This is a medium-sized catnip plush with feathers instead of a tail. Madison is very interested in feathers (sometimes he chews on them but they seem well-attached here) and Monkey liked rubbing his chin on this toy as well. It might work as a kicker for a small cat although it was a little small for that purpose for my three 10+ pound adults.

Telepurr Booth

This is a somewhat larger catnip plush, also with feathers, but more suitable as a kicker for larger cats. Monkey is my primary kicker fan. He knows the position of the sun through the various windows of the house over the course of the day and I have put this in the home office where he likes to spend mornings. This has a slightly different outer texture than the corgi.

Keep Calm and Kitty On 2-Pack

These are small and fuzzy and a good size for batting around. Madison and Monkey both rubbed their chins on these and Monkey batted them around some. I am sure they will end up under the furniture at some point, as small toys often do.

Adirondack Premium Cat Treats, Pure Freeze-Dried Salmon (0.7 oz) - Retail Value $4.99

These treats were out of stock when I went to look them up, but you can sign up to be notified. (The reason I bring this up is these were the treats the coupon was for.) These are freeze-dried salmon and both Monkey and Sneaky were fans. They are kind of stinky, like fish food (which is made of fish...). But the bag is resealable so you don't have to smell this all the time. I like single-ingredient treats for my kitties, when they will eat them, as this type of treat doesn't have a lot of filler. This is a new brand for us.

Gratuitous kitty photos:

Verdict: I couldn't calculate a total value for July’s meowbox because most of the items weren't yet for sale in their shop. I appreciated that there were a variety of different toy types, sizes, and textures, as this is something that interests my cats a good deal, and I am always happy when my cats are interested in something, because they are getting up there in years (Sneaky is about 12, Madison just turned 13, and Monkey is around 14, we think) and not always as toy-crazy as younger cats can be. The theme was cute and everything fit the theme pretty well, but I guess that is easy to do when the toys are custom-produced for the box!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? It is too late for the July box, so your subscription would likely start with August, but you can buy some of the individual items from the meowbox store; just wait a week or two for the items to show up as they're not listed yet.

Value Breakdown: At $22.95 for the subscription plus free shipping, you are paying approximately $4.59 per item (or about $3.28 per item if you are getting the birthday item as I did this month).

Cute theme. I’ll keep an eye out on their shop for these toys to be added.
