The Sill Medium Plant Box Review July 2020

The plant was very carefully packaged, just like always. The Sill team always seems to go overboard to make sure these plants arrive safely. I certainly appreciate it!

The base of the plant was covered by a protective organic material sheet (straw?) and a rubber band to keep the dirt in the pot.

I did not receive an info packet this month.

Philodendron Green in Medium Hyde Planter - Retail Value $56.00

FYI: This plant arrived about 14 inches tall inside the planter and about 11 inches across. The planter alone measures about 6 inches tall.

Philodendron is a genus of herbaceous evergreen tropical plants which belongs to the aroid family Araceae. Taxonomically, the genus Philodendron is considered to be a ‘trashbag’ genus because newly-discovered plants that look like philos are placed in this group until they can be further parsed out. This is not uncommon as many aroids tend to look like one another at some point in their life cycle. This particular Philodendron has delicate heart-shaped green leaves and trailing wiry vines.

I don't know if it is the minimal black planter or what but for some reason this month felt extra fancy. It was also super heavy! I really love the Hyde planter because it has a drainage hole and dish, which sets it miles above some of the other ones from The Sill. Inside arrived a cheerful green Philodendron. These are some of my fave plants because they have adorable heart-shaped leaves and are super tolerant. Literally, I have forgotten about one of these for over a month before and it perked right up after a good soak! They remind me a lot of my pothos plants, but prefer a bit more light and the pothos has larger leaves. Mine arrived a little droopy, but that is to be expected for a rough ride from NYC to my door.

There was a single yellow leaf that I plucked out, but other than that this baby arrived in great condition. I can't wait to put it at the top of my office mantle and watch its trailing vines grow down.

The Verdict: This medium delivery from The Sill cemented my preference for the larger box. It feels like more for the money and since this sub is expensive for what it is, that matters! I loved the plant that arrived this month and thought the planter was super chic and probably a whole lot cooler than I or my house actually are. These tend to grow reasonably fast, so I can't wait to watch it.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, your first plant and pot combo will be from the August selections.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

I really wish the medium subscription could be pet friendly only, it’s what’s holding me back to switch from the small sub. I would rather have the free shipping and the larger planter 🙂

I wish this too. Maybe eventually it will go this route?

Good review! I just canceled this sub because I have wayyyy too many plants but I was very happy with it when I had it.

Gosh, I love the idea of this, but it seems so expensive. I bought an adorable little ponytail palm tree yesterday in a 7inch very heavy planter for $17. I mean I DID have to leave my house for it, but then again do I really need plants delivered?

I want to like this…

It is totally a splurge sub. I have used The Sill (not subscription, just site!) outside of MSA work to send plants instead of flowers to friends and family and it actually ends up costing less in that regard for sure!

That’s a fabulous idea! I’ve never been big on spending that much on flowers for someone knowing they won’t last too long, but a plant is a wonderful substitution! Definitely doing that from now on.
