Little Feminist Book Club Box June 2020 Review

I received this welcome sheet introducing this month's books. They go over a few details about the book and how you can share your thoughts with them after reading the book with your little ones!

On the back of the welcome page is this month's activity which is 'special time.' Here they encourage you to take a set amount of time out each day where your child gets to pick what they want to play, encourage them to lead the activity fully by selecting what they want to play and making up the rules. They are the leader! This time is for you to fully focus and engage in their activity of chose allowing them to feel loved while leading and exploring. It will also show you a lot about your child and their personal interests!

Rosa Loves Cars by Jessica Spanyol - Retail Value $5.99

I love board books! My youngest is in need of some new books so I knew she was going to love this, but it is still really great to have for my 4-year-old as well! I secretly still like having shorter board books like this around for when we want to have a story at naptime but are short on time. In this book, we get to meet Rosa and discover her love of cars. Throughout the story, we meet so many of Rosa's friends and watch them play different activities involving cars together. I think this book is great for so many reasons, but the first thing that I noticed is that the lead, Rosa, is female and truly loves playing with cars. I know from my son being in preschool and a lot of his friends that cars are set for the boys to play with, but this is something that literally anyone can love! We also get to see a ton of diversity throughout the entire story, and I especially love that many of the kids have glasses, something that my son even asked about since none of his younger friends have glasses yet. The text in the book is also a dyslexic friendly font which I think is great! All in all, a wonderful book to add to our collection.

Calling Dr. Zaza by Mylo Freeman - Retail Value $14.95 (found here for $12.21)

My kids love playing doctor with their stuffed animals so I knew this was going to be a hit! Zaza is the main character and today all of her animal friends need to be taken care of. We get to go on a journey with her as she shows love, care, and attention to each of her 'patients' to make them all feel better! I really encourage my kids to use their imagination through play so I thought it was fun to see that in a book as well. Both of my kids loved seeing all of Zaza's stuffed animals and even tried to see if any of their animals looked similar to hers. They both wanted to play doctor after reading this book too! I also love that the book focuses on 'what do I want to be when I grow up,' showing that it is never too early to dream.

What Do You Think Card

Each book comes with a 'What Do You Think' card that gives you questions that you can ask your little reader about the book. Each side is broken out by age, which I find so helpful! These cards are great because they continue the discussion from lessons that we learned in the book or things we might have seen. It also allows your little one to really think and for you to learn a bit more about what they might be thinking at the time. My son was sick a lot this winter with things that he has never had before, so when I asked him about being sick, he brought up how much he is scared of getting tummy sick again and that he worries about it a lot. That is something he never told us before so we were able to talk through it just from asking him a question on this card!

Verdict: I love Little Feminist Book Club for both of my kids! My husband and I always want to make sure we show our kids a diverse life, that they treat others like they would want to be treated, and that you and anyone around you can do anything that you put your mind to. Sometimes just talking to your kids about all of those things or trying to show them in real-life circumstances can be tricky. That is why I am loving this subscription so much! I am able to show my son that girls can do anything since he is so superhero heavy while letting my daughter see fellow girls that aren't just princesses so that she knows she can do absolutely anything. This month I received two hardcover books, one activity, and two discussion cards. For me, the value is adding new books to our collection that show diversity throughout each story, and receiving books right to my door that I might not be able to easily find at a store is so important!

To Wrap Up:
