Gramma in a Box "Patriotic Treats" July 2020 Review

Each month we receive a card that highlights the theme and lists the contents of our box which includes two sheets of wax paper that serve as placemats for easy cleanup. The three projects all come on individual recipe cards that list the ingredients on the back. The directions are easy to follow and any important information is highlighted in red which is always helpful. This month we have a holiday theme of "Patriotic Treats."
Project #1: Sparkler Pretzel Rods

First up was to make some sparkler pretzel rods using honey pretzel rods, melting chocolate, and some red, white, and blue sprinkles.

This was a very easy candy project. I melted the chocolate for us and stirred it up, then the kids dipped their rods into the chocolate and rolled them in the sprinkle cup. You may notice an extra hand this month, which belongs to my niece. She is 4 and had so much fun doing these crafts with us!

One of our rods arrived broken, but my daughter has learned to turn that into two pretzels instead so instead of 6 we have 5 and two little guys. Still cute and pretty yummy! These rods were a little bit harder than pretzel sticks, but the kids didn't seem to mind!
Project #2: Star-Spangled Crispy Bites

Next, we had some Star-Spangled Crispy Bites which used the leftover chocolate, some Rice Krispies cereal, and some peanuts.

First, the kids set out their little baking cups.

Then we stirred our rice cereal and peanuts into the bowl of chocolate. I divided the mixture into the cups and then the kids added one M&M candy and a pinch of sprinkles to the top.

Not only did these look so cute, but I'm still drooling over how yummy they are. It's amazing how one M&M can add just the right amount of chocolate to these little bites! My sister also thought they were delicious!
Project #3: Patriotic Cookie Decorating

Lastly, we had our cookies to decorate with red, white, and blue icing and sprinkles.
There were 8 cookies; 2 large flags, 2 large stars, and 4 small stars.

I think this month they were more interested in getting to the finished cookies because they didn't seem to take their time this month. They did manage to get a lot of icing on their cookies though!

They might not be our prettiest designs, but the kids had fun decorating them and even more fun eating them, so I'd call it a success!
Here is our finished plate of treats. We had 6 sparklers, 6 crispy bites, and 8 cookies. It's such a great amount for a few treats without having a ton of leftovers!
Clean up is super easy (depending on your kids! haha), but I just put all the empty plastic into the box it came in and recycle it. Then I wipe up the table and the kids and we are ready for whatever activity comes next!
Verdict: This month's Gramma in a Box was even more fun this time around because we had an extra little helper! It was fun to show my niece and my sister this box and they enjoyed it along with us! They also enjoyed sharing the treats when they were ready, too. This was another great experience from Gramma!
