Gainz Box June 2020 Review

Gainz Box comes with an information card that is usually in the form of a fold-out booklet:

There was an ad for one of the brands in the box:

Now on to the items:

Perform Shorts from Hanna Eden Fitness - Listed Value $42

These seem to be an exclusive item for the box, which is actually pretty normal -- Gainz Box gets exclusive items and/or exclusive prints for this box on a regular basis. These are pretty short so you will not see me modeling them in my pasty, 42-year-old legs. But they do fit well. They have a drawstring inside as well as what amounts to built-in underwear. They seem well-made and breathable. Men received a slightly different style.

Speed Rope - Listed Value $24.99

These speed ropes are a little different from regular jump ropes and I am not very good with this yet, but I'm working on it. The ceiling in my exercise room is somewhat low for this, for some reason I really do better outside or somewhere with a higher ceiling with this type of rope. Just something to keep in mind. I like that this is adjustable because this is an item where one size does not fit all, you know, I am 5' 5" and a rope for a 6' man would just be too long for me. But that's what the little tool in the baggie is for. I think it is nice they included some items that can be used for home fitness as gyms are in various states of reopening and if you are like me, you don't really want to go to an enclosed place with people exerting themselves and breathing heavily anytime soon (well, I work out at home, but gyms just don't seem safe to me right now).

Resistance Bands - Retail Value $14.99

This is another great item for people interested in working out at home. I have some of these (they're the circle/loop kind) but these need to be replaced every now and then as they wear out and can snap, and you don't want to injure yourself, but they are good at providing different sorts of resistance than you can get with weights. (Also, I have read several stories that those looking to build home gyms are having trouble as there's been a run on equipment like dumbbells and kettlebells. But these could get you through until supplies become more available again. There are plenty of suggestions for exercises online. Also, I like to keep them in the package until use because I feel like air exposure ages the material; I didn't get to use them until a few days after this photo. But they are at least as good as any other brand I've tried.)

Nocco Miami Strawberry, 12 fl oz - Listed Value $2.15

This is a limited edition item and seems to not be available for purchase on the sites where I looked (like this one). This is sugar free and sweetened with sucralose (Splenda). It has branched chain amino acids and B vitamins and a whole lot of caffeine, like 180 mg in a single can. I am on blood pressure medicine so I don't want to have 180 mg of caffeine (2-3 cups of coffee worth) at once but I drank like half of it. It is delicious. But I kind of started feeling funny after half of it. I really don't consume that much caffeine and I think there are good reasons for that; I just don't react to it so well. Anyway, if you can find this for sale and are OK with that much caffeine it is pretty good-tasting stuff with no sugar (and no stevia!).

Lesser Evil Himalayan Pink Salt Popcorn (0.46 oz) - Listed Value $1 (Buy 5, 5 oz bags for $19.99)

This is decent for basically plain popcorn. It is vegan, although processed in a shared facility with eggs and dairy so if you have allergies to either of those, you may want to avoid. One thing I like about popcorn is you can eat a lot and it doesn't have a ton of calories. Plus it is technically a whole grain and has a decent amount of fiber. If you just want to try one bag before buying a case they definitely carry this item at Whole Foods.

Verdict: I couldn't calculate a total value for the June Gainz Box because the drink isn't currently for sale online, the popcorn isn't for sale in that size, and the shorts are an exclusive item (a price range was provided on the information card, presumably to cover both the men's and women's items, and I used the lower end). If you use the information card values, you get $85.13, which is more than twice the month-to-month cost of the box. The rope and bands alone are about equal to the monthly box cost, so you could consider everything else just extra. I imagine it is tough to curate a fitness-based box at the moment, if people are wary about heading to gyms, and I think this box did a good job of providing items that can be used for home workouts (but that aren't too heavy to ship).

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, Gainz Box has already shipped for June. Your first box will most likely be July’s.

Value Breakdown: At $39 for this box ($32 monthly plus $7 shipping), you are paying approximately $7.80 per item.

I never received my box, no one answered my emails, and no one refunded me. Terrible terrible service. Do not buy from here.

Great review. I get this box also and LOVE the shorts. I’m older than you LOL and wasn’t sure if the length would work. I was pleasantly surprised. The other items were okay to me, not great.

I know sucralose is gross but what’s wrong with stevia?

I noticed that each box contains some type of energy product…. that really makes it a NO for me. I dont take bp medication, but up there in age and those type products concern me. Not to mention caffeine makes you hungrier!!! If they offered a non-energy box I might consider subscribing.
