Fit Snack Box is a subscription box containing snacks that each has at least two of the following characteristics: GMO-free, high protein, low sugar, gluten-free, organic, raw, vegan, and/or all-natural. (That is, any given item might be low in sugar and vegan, or organic and gluten-free but not vegan, etc.)

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Fit Snack Box June 2020 Review

The information card was a bit flashier this month, as a full-color folded brochure. But there was still a workout and a list of items in the box.

Sometimes there are also coupons and/or product literature, but not always.

RW Garcia Sweet Potato Crackers (2 oz) - Buy 2, 15 oz bags for $19.85

This was a new product for me, although the brand name sounds familiar. The actual first ingredient is corn, but there is a fair amount of sweet potato, too -- you can taste it. These are a little bland otherwise but I think they would work with nearly any kind of savory OR sweet dip or spread, and they have a really satisfying, crunchy texture. Also they didn't all break in the bag, which is nice (and rare) for a chip or cracker in a snack subscription box.

Jali Fruit Co. Mr. Jackfruit (3.5 oz) - Buy 3 bags for $16

This is also a new brand and product for me, although of course I have tried jackfruit in various vegan snacks as it seems to be a trendy ingredient these days. Before I moved to my house, I used to shop at a Korean market where they had whole jackfruits. Which led me to look up how one processes a whole jackfruit as these things can be 30 pounds or more. There are videos out there of people using machetes to go after these things! Anyway, this company has a great mission of helping women earn a living in various parts of the world where different exotic fruits grow and I can get behind that. However, I don't think I am really a fan of dried jackfruit. It has a fine if slightly unusual flavor, but it is really, really tough, like some kinds of vegan jerky, and difficult to chew. Processed a different way, or in smaller pieces, I might be more of a fan.

Kibo Chickpea Chips, Pico de Gallo (1 oz) - Buy 12 assorted flavor bags for $19.99

We have received these before but they are tasty. They're a little rustic, as they are primarily chickpea flour with a little rice flour and soy protein, but not stale-tasting or anything. The flavor is quite strong (but good) in all of the varieties I've tried. These really do not need a dip or spread and, in fact, it would be hard to come up with one neutral enough to go with the chips. Anyway, I am a fan.

Moon Cheese Oh My Gouda (1 oz) - Buy 12 bags for $19.99

I really like gouda (especially aged imported Dutch gouda) but I can't really tell one flavor of Moon Cheese from another after having had 3 or 4 of them. They are all super salty. I share all snack box foods with my husband and I find I can't eat more than about half a serving of something like this due to the salt content (and I LIKE salty foods). I think this stuff appeals to people on the keto diet because it is high in fat and salt and low in carbs?

Acorn Bar, Coconut Ginger Apricot (1.75 oz) - Buy 6 bars for $24 (found here for $18)

This is another new product and brand for me. It has acorn starch in it, hence the name (with enough boiling, acorn starch is just fine for human consumption). This was surprisingly low-calorie and light in texture. The ginger combined with the texture reminded me of carrot cake (a good thing). This was fun to try and I'd love to see them expand their product line. It's a little expensive to purchase, though, at about $4 per bar at the moment.

Weeks Honey Farm Honey Straws (12 count) - Retail Value $2.99 (found here for $1.50)

I am familiar with this brand from subscription boxes (of course!). I like honey straws because you only use what you need instead of having a big open jar that will crystallize. If I ever encounter tea that is too bitter or tart, these are great to have around. (I tried one out with some raspberry herbal from Stash and they work well for that purpose.) It is also nice to have some honey around for coughs and colds as it can be soothing if you don't want to overmedicate yourself.

Ultima Replenisher (3 pack x 2) - Buy 20 sticks for $19.99

This is a pretty standard inclusion in this box, these days. They must have gotten ahold of a ton of it. But I like to keep some around in summer in case I have to be outside and sweat a lot as I feel this has better (i.e., less artificial) ingredients than supermarket brands. It's also convenient to carry in these packs and you can just dump it into a bottle of water. I don't love the stevia sweetener, but it is OK, especially in the berry flavors, which I like more than the citrus flavors (personal preference only).

Plantfusion Complete Meal, Chocolate Caramel (1 serving) - Buy 10 servings for $37.35

It was either Fit Snack Box or Vegancuts that introduced me to this item and I liked it enough that I bought a full-sized container a few months ago. Which I will never finish off if I keep getting samples! (On the other hand, it is a money saver to get these.) I like to put a few tablespoons (not a whole serving) in my morning smoothies. Blend with a stick blender for best results as I find that all plant proteins clump a little.

Flu B Gone Optimal Health Formula (2 fl oz) - Buy 8 fl oz for $20.99

Oh. This is FOUL. Here are the ingredients: Organic Apple Cider Vinegar, Cinnamon, Pure Elderberry, Ginger Root, Raw Garlic, Horseradish Root, White Onion, Habanero Pepper, Echinacea, Honey, Monolaurin (Coconut). They appear to have all been thrown in there without consideration of how the product would actually taste. I couldn't choke it down, the vinegar made my mouth feel like it was burning. This is the kind of thing you would take if it was good for you, but none of these ingredients are proven to do anything except perhaps scare vampires away (there was a study about elderberry but the results weren't reproducible except with a particular brand of a particular formulation).

Verdict: The June Fit Snack Box had 10 items (counting doubles separately) for an average value of $2.89 per item. Most of the items were great and this was a refreshing box to receive after certain other food subscriptions send like 14 out of 15 repeat items. I like the protein powder, the honey straws are a good pantry staple for me, and the sweet potato crackers and acorn bar were fun discoveries. I also like the story behind the Jali Fruit Company. As a bonus, everything was vegetarian, so I could try it all (that is not a guarantee with this box, and as you can see, while some items are vegan, there was cheese and honey this month, so this may not be a good box for vegans).

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Boxes ship out around the 20th of the month (mine went out a little later than that in June) so it is too late to get June’s box.

Value Breakdown: At $28.90 for this box, you are paying about $2.89 per item.
