Winc May 2020 Review

When you sign up to join Winc, you take a six-question palate profile quiz to help determine your taste in wine. Based on your answers, Winc makes bottle recommendations for you every month. You can go along with their recommendations, choose your own bottles from their regularly changing selection, or skip the month completely. You can also take the palate profile test as often as you’d like.

The bottles are shipped in an upright cardboard box that has molded pieces to hold them in place. This helps prevent the bottles from bashing into one another during transport. The box is rather sturdy and has a convenient handle that makes it easy to carry.

2019 Ruza Rosé 187ml Cans (4 pack) — $17.99 (or 15.99 through the subscription)

Currently, this wine is sold out.

California

Body: Light

Sweetness: Dry

Alcohol: 12.5%

Winemaking: Vegan, Low-Sulfer, Low-Sugar

Canned Rosé you say? Don't mind if I do! In addition to being utterly portable, these little cans were also adorable! I tossed them into the fridge to enjoy cold and really liked this wine. It has notes of watermelon and citrus, with a crisp finish. It also had just a little bit of fizz, which is always a bonus for me personally. It is a bummer this is sold out because I honestly think it could give the iconic Summer Water bottle a run for its money!

2019 Brethren of the Road Gewürztraminer — $17.99 (or $15.99 through the subscription)

Currently, this wine is sold out.

Monterey, California

Body: Light

Sweetness: Dry

Alcohol: 12.4%

Winemaking: Eco-Friendly, Vegan, Low-Sulfur, Sustainable

This wine is SO light on the tongue. It is one of the lightest I have tried in recent memory. This makes it perfect for lighter meals and I paired it with a fresh salad and some salmon last week on an especially pretty evening. Most of the Gewürztraminer wines I have tried are on the sweeter side, but this is pretty dry, which actually allows the floral notes to shine, accompanied by the hint of tart fruit.

2018 Keep It Chill Chillable Red $19.99 (or $17.99 through the subscription)

Currently, this wine is sold out.

France

Body: Medium

Sweetness: Dry

Alcohol: 12.7%

Winemaking: Eco-Friendly, Vegan, Low-Sulfur, Low-Sugar, Sustainable

I didn't love this wine. Reds I usually enjoy at room temperature so the idea of a chillable one seemed perfect for summer weather. I found this bottle to be really harsh on my tongue and have a rough finish. This combined with the tart notes weren't exactly my favorite. It did mellow out a little when left to warm up for a few minutes. All that aside, I think if you love punchy reds, this might be more of a winner for you. I still finished the bottle because the big red notes were tasty, but I don't think this will be a repeat purchase for me.

2019 Debts & Lessons Riesling $18.99 (or $16.99 through the subscription)

Currently, this wine is sold out; linked to 2018 varietal for reference.

Monterey, California

Body: Light

Sweetness: Sweet

Alcohol: 11.4%

Winemaking: Low-Sulfur

I selected the 2018 vintage of this bottle last month and liked it enough to try the newer 2019. It shared many of the same lemon, white flower, and tart notes of its older sibling, but seemed a little brighter. This one is delightful alone, or combined with fresh fruit in a white sangria, or with a little St. Germain to enhance the flowery notes.

Verdict: I am always excited when my Winc box lands on my porch and this was a great month. True, I wasn't crazy about the only red inside, but the bottle still somehow became empty. Magic! I was nuts over the canned rosé and the light and dancing Gewürztraminer. I was also happy with my repeat choice of the Riesling because it is so darn drinkable, especially with such nice weather. Though with increased demand the selections being stretched, I still think this is a great wine subscription, you just have to babysit the bottles on the site a little bit to make sure you get what you want.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Since Winc allows you to choose your wine, you can get any combination you’d like any month. Sign up today and curate your own selection, or let them choose a few bottles for you.

Currently shipping is delayed by about ~5 days and we are working every minute to close that gap. The same for our customer experience agents.

Value Breakdown: This box cost $66.96 for four full bottles of wine, but had a retail value of $74.96, so that's a savings of $8.00 by having the subscription.

Hey, Megan! I was thinking of signing up for this but as I was building my cart, I noticed several of the wines I was interested in were sold out. Do you know if there is a certain time of week and/or month when the site is replenished/restocked? Would love to try to place my first order when the best selection is available. Thanks!

Hi Marie! Its true the selection can be a little crazy right now with more people ordering for delivery. I find that the 24-26th of the month is the sweet spot for me. Like the few days before your order has to be confirmed for the next month! Hope this helps <3
