Switch is a jewelry rental service that lets you try out designer jewelry without the commitment. You pick your favorite pieces and try them out for as long as you want with a relatively small monthly fee. Switch also offers the option to purchase jewelry pieces at a discounted member price. For every month that you’re a member, you get a $10 credit that you can use towards the purchase of a piece of jewelry at the special member price.

This is a review of the $69 Black Membership that includes 3 pieces a month.

FYI - COVID-19 Update: You can read about how Switch is committed to the safety of its team, subscribers, and community here.

Switch offers free Priority shipping via USPS (1-3 day expected arrival). Each package comes with a prepaid USPS return label, so you can leave your return for your mail carrier or drop it off at the post office if you’re the nervous type. Shipping is free both ways, and they just ask that you package your items just as they were received to return them. It’s important to save the mailer and packaging for your return.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Switch Subscription Box May 2020 Review

Everything arrived in a super slick and very high-end looking black box. Inside, there were multiple info cards explaining all the deets about this subscription. All of these cards are really informative and helpful in explaining all the facets of this service. They cover care tips, return instructions, and even a guide if you fall head over heels in love with a piece, which... does... happen.

Let's see what I picked this month!

Gucci Feline Pin – Retail Value $550.00, Member Price $545.00

How ferocious is this golden tiger? I don't regularly wear pins or brooches, but I do have a small collection of vintage ones I wear on chains like a pendant, which is exactly what I did here! This piece is super heavy in a really good way and I love how it looks as a necklace.

ME-OW!

David Yurman Wheaton Bracelet with Prasiolite and Diamonds – Retail Value $650.00, Member Price $455.00

I am a David Yurman fan, and his cuffs always feel timeless. This one has a beautiful, soft, sage green stone accented in little diamonds. The coiled rope texture of the body adds some cool texture.

Such a pretty green.

Rebecca Pinto Boko Dangle Hoops in 14k Yellow Gold – Retail Value $460.00, Member Price $390.00

Rebecca Pinto might be my favorite jewelry designer right now. I love her organic shapes and interesting lines. These tiny huggies have a freeform style circle dangling from them that is actually removable, so you could use them as a plain huggie as well. They are small, lightweight, and really wonderful!

Here they both are, one with and one without the golden loop.

The Verdict: My Switch pieces this month were all very different, but I loved them all. I am really leaning into delicate pieces like the earrings and bracelets lately because you can layer them with other favorites from your jewelry box so easily and they look like a little collection on your arm or earlobe. The tiger pin was a different choice for me from my Switch norm, but I loved its personality.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Pieces can get snatched up quickly, and the number of pieces they have per style varies. You may or may not see these pieces in their available inventory list – but you might just see something you like even more! This isn’t a “styled” subscription, meaning you can pick exactly what you want from the available list – it’s not selected for you based on an algorithm or your preferences.

ACTIVE DEAL: Save 50% off your first month
CODE: LOVEMSA

Value Breakdown: In this shipment, I tried out $1660.00 of jewelry for $69 – which is about 4% of their retail value and a great deal if it works for your budget and needs. It’s pricier than Rocksbox (which offers mid-range designer jewelry) but less than Rent the Runway (which offers designer jewelry, accessories, and clothes, too).

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

CAUTION DO NOT SIGN UP!!! I love this site I have multiple subscription boxes. However, this company is awful!!! The post office lost the package and instead of charging me for lost item and closing my account they refuse to CLOSE my account. They said I need return the item they won’t even charge me and close it! They have been charging me since May 2019 and refuse to close my account. I received a debt collector letter despite my credit card telling them they are illegally charging me. When I contacted company because of the debt they flat out refused and are still charging me!!! DO NOT SIGN UP UNLESS you want DEBT collector and OPEN account forever. I have filed complaints with every department and even spoke to a lawyer about the matter but it takes time unfortunately.

Megan, are you ever able to get more than three pieces in one month?

Love the memory of David Yurman bracelets when I was chairing an auction and one mother made a negative comment about trying to get one for our auction to a lady wearing a beautiful one. It was A.Scene! I like his jewelry, and especially that dainty bracelet (compared to some of his works) on you. Do they have any of Tiffany designers? Most would probably be vintage and very pricey. Frank Gehry even worked with them. I’m in dream land now. You did a great job picking out some nice items. Love the earrings and the bracelet. Have a lot of vintage Gucci. Not getting the feels for that pin. That’s the beauty of jewelry…it’s all about what speaks to an individual.

I love seeing the expensive jewelry you get in boxes.

A 300 to 500 credit hold is absolutely ridiculous 😡! I can’t imagine anyone signing up for this.

Wealthy people (and) or people with bad credit scores.

I would!! I’m not wealthy and I have a great credit score (haha). Though this isn’t happening much right now I work in sales for a luxury fashion magazine so having access to a variety of jewels allows me to look the part without significant investment. I like to buy pieces that I can wear forever and borrow trendy/statement pieces for work and parties. That’s just my lifestyle though- I understand it doesn’t fit for others.

That tiger pin as a necklace is amazing!!
