The Sill April 2020 Box Review

I decided to choose the "pet-friendly" subscription option since our dog, Tucker, seems to enjoy nibbling on our houseplants. I also decided to change my planter color to "mint" this month. You can swap planter colors every month if you so desire!

The plant was very carefully packaged, just like always. There was a special insert around the base of the plant to protect its roots and keep the dirt in place. And a heating pack was included since the winter months aren't awesome for shipping a plant.

There was an envelope with some additional info on my new friend. It included a card with information specific to the type of plant inside as well as an additional sheet with care instructions related to what the plant might need right away as it has just spent a few days in a dark box.

Marble Queen Pothos in Small Mint Hyde Planter – Retail Value $37.00

FYI: This plant arrived about 7 inches tall inside the planter and about 5 inches across.

I know, I know. There is nothing particularly rare about a Pothos. Still, though, I have to say that this is one of my favorite houseplants. I have a few in my house and I always welcome more. If you have a lower-light house these hearty little plants are an absolute dream. They grow fast, put up with loads of neglect, and eventually start to vine. The longest one in my house is about 12 feet, and we have it cascading down a banister. We also have another that is closer to 7 feet long and it lives on a shelf above our kitchen fireplace (we have a very old house with a weird kitchen fireplace). This is also a beautiful variation called 'Marble Queen' which showcases exquisitely patterned variegated leaves. I am excited to watch it grow down the shelves in my office.

Each one looks like it was hand-painted. I find it utterly charming.

The Verdict: My April The Sill delivery was very charming indeed. As a Pothos enthusiast, I am quite pleased, and even more ticked that the planter has a proper drain hole and a dish! I am very excited to add this little one to my new WFH office setup to bring me some cheer.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, your first plant and pot combo will be from the May selections.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

Amy in KC is correct, this is not a dog-friendly plant so I would keep it well out of reach of your pup. The plus side is these are very easy to grow, but I do keep it away from my small dog.

Pothos is NOT pet-friendly to either dogs or cats … so be careful Tucker doesn’t chew on this one or any of your other pothos plants! I am shocked that The Sill would send a pothos as a pet-safe option! It’s pretty well-known for being toxic to pets. 🙁

Oh.My.Gosh! Amy in KC is right! I just did a Google search and it immediately came up in multiple sites as toxic to pets. The first site was cuteness dot com

Thank goodness Amy in KC let everyone know!

You’re welcome, I just want everyone and their pets to be safe! One of my cats loves to chew on plants so I am pretty vigilant. I love gardening, so it’s hard to avoid certain plants that I love, but it’s not worth the risk.

It’s important to remember that “toxic” doesn’t necessarily mean “will kill your pet.” It can mean cause diarrhea/vomiting, for example, and then your pet is (usually) fine. But I still don’t risk it for my cat who loves to gobble up anything leafy and green.

I absolutely adore Pothos – we have about 15 feet of planters of them cascading over the living room from the loft. They get up to like 20 feet and then need to be trimmed so they don’t hit us in the head!

This sub is too spendy for me but gosh their plants and planters are so cute!
