The Detox Box is a green beauty subscription box from The Detox Market that costs $55/month. You'll usually receive 2-3 products from a featured brand each month that follow their strict ingredient standards and help you discover non-toxic ways to continue your beauty routine. What I love about this subscription is that I can try popular and undiscovered brands alike at a really good value!

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

The Detox Box May 2020 Review

With this month's Detox Box, I received two info cards. One that details all of the sustainable items in the box and another that gives an overview of One Love Organics and a short Q+A with the founder.

Botanical A Facial Cleanser, 4 oz. - Retail Value $39.00

I can't explain why, but I love getting cleansers in subscription boxes. I am some sort of cleansing fiend? This cleansing gel contains botanical vitamin A as well as AHAs + BHAs that scrub and penetrate the skin to cleanse. This one would best be used as a second cleansing step in your skin routine since it chemically exfoliates. It has a fresh grapefruit scent that I really like and is super duper gentle. Just a pump or two into my hands and then applied to a moist face will get a soft lather going. When rinsed away, my face feels clean and new!

Botanical B Enzyme Cleansing Oil + Makeup Remover, 4 oz. - Retail Value $42.00

A second cleanser! What? Yes- this one is an oil though which is great for removing makeup as a first cleanse. This cleanser should be used on a dry face and will melt anything tough (like waterproof liner, mascara, or lip stain) off without drying out the skin. The oil formula is made with botanical vitamin B along with papaya and pumpkin seed oil. I love that this one also has a pump but I have to admit that I for some reason really dislike the papaya scent. It's quite strong and reminds me of a tropical daiquiri but perhaps I had a bad run-in in my past that this calls up subconscious negative memories. Haha, I don't know. It works really well and I wish I could handle the scent, but I'll be passing it to a papaya-loving pal.

Vitamin C Facial Serum, 1 oz. - Retail Value $75.00

When I first saw this product I thought "What more can I say about serums?" I can get serum fatigue, everyone. But then I tried this botanical vitamin C packed formula and something about it gave me pause. "Oh!" I thought to myself, "This one feels... different. Unique!" It's an oil-based serum but is incredibly lightweight when applied. One single pump is by far enough for my entire face and decollete, so this 1-ounce bottle will last me quite a while. Once on my face, I'm met with a romantic rose scent that I've come to love from the rosehip oil included in the recipe. Seabuckthorn berries extract, green tea seed oil, rosemary leaf extract, and sunflower seed oil all help create a delightful blend to make this a fantastic facial serum for summer.

Verdict: This month's Detox Box was a delight. Even though I wasn't a fan of the papaya scented oil cleanser, the gel cleanser and serum both made my heart flutter and delivered on a wonderful experience. This trio makes for a great 3-step routine for those who don't know where to start with a skincare regimen. I love the glass bottles and the pumps which may seem trivial but can really elevate a brand. These three products have a combined retail value of $156, almost three times the cost of the box.

Marne, that is certainly a strong odor. Not offensive to me but strong but I see what you mean. I will be using it as though one give away from this box is all that is gonna happen. Can’t wait to see June.

I love this brand! Well, based on the one thing I’ve tried from them! Fabulous box.

I’m obsessed with cleansers too Marne 😉 I don’t know what it is with cleansers (all kinds) and toners, but those are usually the first products I want to try from a new-to-me brand, and truthfully they’re usually the products that could make me want to buy a box, lol! I usually give my face a nice massage with cleansers (but not 1st cleanses since to me it would feel like I’m just massaging my makeup into my skin), so they’re typically on my face longer than the much quoted “10 seconds”. And sure it’s a product that gets washed down the drain, but I can always tell a difference in my skin between different kinds of cleansers, so at least for my skin I can feel different benefits from them.

I can’t wait to try all of the product’s in this month’s box. I also got a kick in how they lined up the products to read “A B C”. It’s the little things that always make me smile 🙂

I haven’t tried the makeup cleanser yet (I am literally eating papaya for breakfast.. lol) but I loved the first cleanser. Since I heavy on oils to use up I gifted the C to a friend and she is truly in love with it. I haven’t committed to a three month sub on this box but I am going to go in another month. Detox has been more one offs for me but I am thinking of moving them up to the next level but my six month with Allure is due so not this month. Very pleased last few months though. I am home working until Sept 1 at the earliest so I have been so attentive to my skin with my former commute time. Thanks Marne. Now I can’t wait to smell that oil cleanser. Lol..And PS. I can’t stand anything that smells remotely like tequilla..
