meowbox April 2020 Review

meowbox has a lot of exclusive toys that are usually pretty popular with my cats. From my perspective, it’s nice to see some things that don’t turn up in other cat subscription boxes:

The information card typically just gives a URL for finding out more information about the items in the box. The picture is adorable, as usual. This month had a nautical theme.

Come Sail Away Ship/Feather Toy

This is a little bit like a dangler toy in that the feather is at the end of a string. I thought Sneaky would go for it but it turned out to be more of a Madison thing. (He does like feathers. A lot.) The "string" is rather thick and sturdy but still a good woven texture in which the kitties can hook a claw, so it should be plenty safe to leave them alone with. (For some string toys I would recommend supervised play only but I think this one is OK, at least with my crew, for unsupervised play as well.)

The Empurrium Mermaid Tail

This is a handmade felt toy with catnip inside. Madison really likes toys like this from The Empurrium (you'll get one every couple of months in meowbox) and Monkey sometimes does, too. I guess the catnip is good and fresh because occasionally I can get them to roll around on the floor with one of these. They were not willing to do that for this particular photo session, however. Cats are like that sometimes.

Captain Pretty Kitty Hat/Crinkle Toy

This is not *really* a hat, I think, but I had to try to use it as one anyway -- the temptation was pretty high and you can see the results below. This is filled with a crinkle material that some cats like, and it has a canvas-like texture on the hat part. Sneaky was more interested in the ribbons.

Light Up Lighthouse with Feather

Lately there has been one light-up/sound toy per month. My cats are not into the light and sound so much, but this is a good-sized kicker toy with a feather so it has aspects that appeal to Monkey and Madison, regardless. If it gets tossed, you can see a red light in the top part, which is kind of fun. (There is a tab you pull out to activate the battery.)

Emerald Pet Wholly Fish (3 oz) - Retail Value $4.99

These are crunchy treats in various shapes. They have no poultry ingredients, which may be good for cats sensitive to poultry. (That doesn't happen to be any of the cats I have right now, but we have definitely dealt with dietary issues in the past.) Madison and Monkey didn't really want to eat these, though they acted like they did. But no worries, Sneaky (aka "the cleanup crew") was happy to eat them all.

Gratuitous cat photos:

Verdict: I couldn't calculate a total value for April’s meowbox because most of the items weren't yet for sale in their shop. They will likely show up later, however, sometimes it takes them a few weeks. This was a pretty good box for my kitties though -- while only Sneaky really liked the treats, the different toy types and textures appealed to different cats and the theme was pretty cute.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? It is too late for the April box, so your subscription would likely start with May, but you can buy some of the individual items from the meowbox store; just wait a week or two for the items to show up as they're not listed yet.

Value Breakdown: At $22.95 for the subscription plus free shipping, you are paying approximately $4.59 per item.

My poor cat… I thought the hat was, well, a hat.

She loved the treats. She had a little trouble eating them whole since they were so hard, but hoovered them after I mashed them up a bit.
