Medusa's Make-Up May 2020 "It's Your Party" Review

Along with my four beauty items, I received an info card that details what items are in the box.

Medusa's Make-Up Lipstick in Yolo - Retail Value $12.00

Oh gosh, I am very into this vibrant pink! Every summer I get obsessed with neon, especially lip colors. This pink is nearly vibrating off of my lips and I feel powerful and cute with it on. The formula of this stick is super creamy although it has a slight waxiness to it. Not enough for me to care about though. It easily glides on and really delivers a deep pigment. The only problem is that once I blot or kiss my hand to test the transferability, half of the bold color is gone. I suppose that means you can tone "Yolo" down if you like, but I think it should be worn full force. I love this color enough that reapplying is a small price to pay. I'm also happy to report that it didn't stain my lips once removed.

Medusa's Make-Up Glam Rock Eyeshadow in Blitz - Retail Value $9.00

Looking at the pan, I was prepared for a dark gunmetal metallic shadow. Once on, it sort of just looks like a dull grey with no shimmer at all. It's a little blotchy and harder to blend than I'd like. I'm not sure this eyeshadow gives me much of a Glam Rock look. Just sorta meh.

Love Byrd Tinted Lip Balm in Peck - Retail Value $8.00

I'm having a hard time understanding who wants a pale whitish yellow-tinted lip balm. Please give me a shout in the comments if it's something you've been asking for! This chubby balm stick feels hydrating and is really smooth when applying. I just feel like chalk-colored lips aren't for me.

Medusa's Make-Up Glitter in Star Struck - Retail Value $8.00

Once I added this ultra-fine violet iridescent glitter to my eyelid over the shadow, things got way more glam. I would normally never wear glitter, but it's sort of giving me life on this dreary self-quarantine day. It can get messy and there's definitely a good bit of fallout but I'm guessing this is par for the course with a product like this? I bet it would stick better to a cream shadow. Really pretty though and feels soft with no fear of glitter chunks cutting my delicate skin. It also comes off easily and isn't a nightmare to remove.

Here are swatches of everything!

Here we have three of the four items on my face. The eye on your left has glitter over the shadow and the eye on the right is shadow only. Not as easy to see in the photo, but there is a big difference in person. The lip here is at full blast! Yes!

Verdict: Medusa's Make-Up Beauty Box was a bit of a wild ride for me this month. The shadow and lip balm were not impressive in pigment but the glitter was fun (to my surprise) and the lipstick hit the nail on the head for me. The retail value for these four items comes to $37.oo which is about $20 over the $16.95 cost.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Orders are generally processed within 1-3 business days, so you will likely receive May as your first box if you subscribe before the end of the month.

Value Breakdown: At $16.95 for this box, here's what you're paying for each item:

  • Toner: $5.12
  • Mask: $1.97
  • Liquid Shadow: $5.14
  • Lipstick: $4.72

The balm is FIRE on top of a dark lipstick. It brightens the color and livens it up. It’s impossible to wear by itself if you’re pale. The dark lipstick is where it’s at!

I like the tinted lip balm for an almost spacey type look. It reminds me of Zorg’s secretary almost. She’d love it!

Love that pink lippie on you!

Could the balm be used on top of a darker lipstick color?

As a old goth, their packaging and different colors really appealed to me I got about 4 boxes in when I realized that they send the same crap over and over and over…. really disappointing. Their line just isn’t big enough to sustain a sub box. Plus, they just kept sending pinks (which I do not wear) and eyeshadow colors like glitter and blue. You’re better off getting one box to try out their stuff, then buying what appeals to you during a sale. Just my opinion as a former subscriber, though. Might appeal to the young ravers more, honestly.
