Scent Box April 2020 Review

This month, I received Scent Box’s “Scent of the Month.”

The information card usually has a little information about the men’s scent of the month on one side and the women’s on the other side. Based on the information card, this one didn't seem like it would be exactly what I'm looking for in a fragrance, but I was willing to keep an open mind.

In case I have not mentioned it in the past, you get a new holder every month and the fragrance is printed on a sticker on the bottom, and the holders tend to be different colors each month, so you can still keep them sorted out.

On to the fragrance:

Coach Floral Blush - Estimated Value $16.53 (Buy 30 mL for $62)

This one was introduced about a year ago and is still in production, which is a nice change of pace. Top notes include grapefruit and goji berries. This has maybe a whiff of grapefruit right off, but it doesn't last long. I generally like grapefruit in fragrances (I spent $$$ on a bottle of Pomelo Paradis not too long ago) and I did really like the first impression of this fragrance after I put it on. I am not super familiar with goji berries in fragrances although I will say, there wasn't a generic fruity smell to this that you get with a lot of other berry notes.

Mid notes include peony and peach. This wasn't really a peach fragrance on me. Again, maybe there was a little detected right at first. The peony was absolutely dominant, which kind of makes sense for a fragrance with "floral" in the name.

Base notes include musk and white wood. I do like these base notes, but they kind of drown in the peony, especially as the fragrance wears on for a few hours. There was something a little sweet in there, too, which I liked. Longevity was about average (you may want to reapply mid-day), as was sillage.

I thought this fragrance was just OK, better than some scents of the month, but not my favorite. I loved my initial impression but it got progressively more floral over time. That could be a net positive for some people, it's just not really what I tend to reach for. It also could vary based on your body chemistry.

Verdict: The estimated value of my fragrance this month is $16.53. That is a little above the month-to-month cost of the subscription and includes free returns and the monthly free holder (I like this month's color). I was not familiar with this fragrance so I was happy to get a chance to try it, even if it didn't end up being my favorite. Don't forget you can always just choose what fragrances you want instead of getting the scent of the month and you can stick to notes and combinations you know you like. Also, don't forget that the various fragrance subscriptions have some differences (pricing tiers, number of fragrances available, opportunity to substitute other items, exchanges, holders, and so forth) and you kind of have to just do some investigating to see which one is right for you.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes, all you have to do is choose this fragrance.

Value Breakdown: This subscription is $14.95/monthly and this month, I received $16.53 worth of fragrance (but again, this is highly variable based on what scent or product you choose).

Thanks for the excellent review, Ragan! I finally gave Scent Box a try this month based on your reviews, and selected Atara by Michael Malul – I *love* the perfume (a sweet gourmand; it has an initial grapefruit note and reminds me quite a bit of Black Tulip by Nest thereafter) and the service.
